Has anyone ever had a really RUDE server?

My family is VERY kind at restaurants and we tip very well because at one time or another we have all worked in the service industry. We try to give servers the benefit of the doubt, but my mom still has hard feelings from an experience we had at CRT.

It was back in 1994 (I think before it was even called CRT.) My family took a trip to WDW because it was our first Christmas after my dad passed away from cancer and none of us could bear to stay home. My grandfather had also passed years earlier, so it was my mom, me, my 2 younger sisters, my grandma, and my aunt. The FIRST thing the server said to us was "What did you do? Ditch all the men today?" Now, I know she didn't know about our situation, but it was just the way wrong thing to say. We just kind of shrugged it off (even though my mom was pretty upset because our emotions were obviously still very raw from our loss.) Then later throughout the meal, she made 3-5 MORE comments about not having men with us, and they were sure missing a great time, and what were they doing...golfing?? It was hard to deal with and still to this day my mom has yucky feelings/memories of that restaurant.

Our worst experience was at Cape May Cafe for breakfast. We were talking to a family next to us so the waitress cleared our dishes and silverware. We were planning on going back for more but we got the hint that we had apparently used up our time. We still eat there regularly but have not seen her again.

Just a gentle reminder to please keep tipping out of the discussion on this thread.

Thanks!

A few years ago, my parents were chased by their server as they left the restaurant in China, Epcot. She had been inattentive during my parent's entire meal and felt she had to yell at my mum before they left the restaurant. She kept making comments about them being "foreign" and not from the US. :confused3

We dine with Disney often (at least we did, the last year has seen a change in that with the DDP and lessening of the ability to walk up) so we've had a couple of experiences.

One was at the Yacht Club Galley. We had been given a dinner voucher from the BC because our villa wasn't ready at check in. We don't know what was going on at the YCG, but boy were they having a time of it! Our server was just totally confused and frustrated, but the server at the next table was totally out of control. She actually (bent over at the waist) screeched at her table. We were astonished, but she was so over the top it was actually funny. The manager did come over, but the people left anyway. The manager sent their food to their room... weird.

We had a horrid server, Joan from Winter Garden at Kona Cafe. Unfortunately, it was my wife's birthday breakfast so it was a very inopportune time to have a rude and unpleasant server. :confused3

Must be something about birthdays because a few years back we were at Narcoosee's for my birthday and whoooeeeee, we got the server from the hot place! :scared1:

Needless to say, we never went back to YCG (food was really bad that night and it took 2 hours to get our dinners LOL) and most likely won't give Narcoosee's a try again.

We aren't sure about Kona. The food was pretty bad that morning too, so it was more than the server. The manager was very nice though and send a mid level manager over to take care of our table once the server disappeared ...

We've had mostly wonderful servers though. Ricardo and Oscar at the YSH are two who come to mind almost immediately. ::yes:: We've had great servers who work very hard at Cape May's dinner buffet. ::yes:: Never had a problem at Beaches and Cream, Le Cellier, Marrakesh, France (either restaurant) Germany... all great servers. (We did have one very odd server at China, but it had to have been the language thing, right)? :teeth:

Horrible, horrible server at Jiko in January. He had no personality and seemed irked first that we didn't order alcohol after he tried to sell us hard on it, and then when I ordered a medium-well steak and it showed up all pink, he wasn't so happy about taking it back. He was like, "you don't want a steak that's any more done than that." I was like, "yes I do. Put it back on the grill." I'd understand if it came kinda pink, but this was more like medium rare. It was kinda offensive being talked to that way. And our drinks got refilled once over the course of the entire meal. Had to finally ask him to take care of it after half an hour of eating without beverages. Maybe they were just understaffed. I don't know.

Mine was at Crystal Palace, we had reservations at 8:05, we were there for 2 hours because we could not get our server to refill drinks or brind us our checks. Once he did come back to get our payments, it took him another 15 minutes to get back to us. When it is a buffet, it should not take that long, we were done eating and with the characters after about 45 minutes and we could not find anyone to help us

We actually dealt with very rude servers AND a rude *manager* at Rose & Crown in 2006. We were sitting inside, in the room at the very back, near the door to the patio. That is a fairly small room and sound travels easily. There was a party of 5, 2 adults and 3 children under the age of 5 sitting at a table about 5 feet away from us. Now I understand that children get excited at Disney, I've been going since I was 2 (and I'm now 23), but these kids were unbelievable. They were screaming, yelling, running, smacking into people and the parents just sat there oblivious. We thought there might be a language barrier at first as the children were carrying on in spanish (I felt like I was caught in an episode of Dora the Explorer :rotfl: ) but we later heard the parents speak perfect english to their server.

We asked our server to ask if they could tone it down a bit and she said she could not. :confused3 So we then asked for a manager to come over. The server said she could not request a manager. :headache: My DDad then stood up and wandered around until he found a manager because at this point it sounded like Gymboree in our room. Other tables were complaining too but all the servers were refusing to address the situation or alert management.

When my DDad finally tracked down a manager he looked about 25, so we are guessing he was actually a supervisor. He said in a very brisk and snippy tone

"Sir, Disney is a place for children, deal with it!" :scared1:

Can you believe that? A room with a good 25 people in it is being inconvenienced by 3 little children and 2 oblivious parents and this manager has the gaul to remind us that Disney "is for kids"!

My DDad gestured to my best friend and I (we were about 20 at the time) and asked "What about my kids? They are being well behaved!" and the gentleman at the table next to us gestured to his son (about 14) and said "And my son?"

The manager looked like a deer caught in the headlights :lmao:

But he never addressed the situation, and never said anything to the family disrupting an entire section of the restaurant. We were eventually given a table on the patio for illuminations and a free dessert but never an apology. While the manager did find a solution for US, the other 20 people in the room were left with the screaming children. And to me there was no excuse for his attitude or that of the wait staff. That was our last visit to the Rose & Crown.

I'm sorry you were judged on the way you ordered your steak :sad2: I love Jiko as a restaurant and we had a wonderful server (Ron i believe).

I've heard a few people experience similar judgement at California Grill, Yachtsman & Jiko. I suppose because they are "signature" they feel the right to tell you how they feel the "proper" preparation is, but you are the customer and your preference trumps their opinion. The only restaurant where I feel the Chef taking liberty with the preparation of steaks is Victoria & Alberts Chefs Table, as in essence you are the "guest" of the chef in that experience.

We had a couple bad experiences, one at B&C and one at Yachtsman. Now that I think about it, the B&C issue was actually the hostess not the server. Not only were they rude, I watched as he and another CM got into a fight at the podium. Yachtsman wasnt too big of a deal, the server was probably just having a bad day, but when you are there for a week and get nothing but good service, you notice when its less than stellar. Neither of these will keep me away from these restaurants however:thumbsup2

We have never had any rude servers but we have had some pretty slow ones. Crystal Palace and Garden Grill. It just took forever at both places.

We all know that Disney is the "Happiest Place on Earth," and CMs make the experience that much better with their cheery personalities BUT has anyone ever had a really rude server? If so, has it affected your choice to eat at the restaurant again?

My one and only experience was at Beaches & Cream.. ugh

Despite that, its still one of my favorite places to eat!

tony's town hall square. The waiter brought two glasses so he didn't have to refill my glass and ignored me for a table with a family on it.

Hm. I see B&C several times, and we also had a rude server there in 2007. It was our first time eating there, and the waitress just made us feel like we were wasting her time. We all ordered food & drinks and then a Kitchen Sink, so it wasn't like we split an order of fries and drank water! We went back last year, and got a much nicer waitress.

We also had a rude server at Garden Grill several years ago; so bad that I wrote a letter when we got home, which is saying a lot. It ruined our opinion of GG and we haven't been back.

We had an interesting experience at Le Cellier, but the only rude service we have had was at Beaches & Cream. The server (Joan) threw the straws on our table like she aspired to work at Whispering Canyon Cafe and pretty much ignored us after that. Funny how B&C keeps getting mentioned.

Absolutely, we had a gay server at the Yachtsman who didn't seem to like hetrosexuals. We asked for him to be replaced after he made several jokes about "meat/people being butch and comments about normal people". He was.

Yep...just one though. It was at Ohana, the head server just seemed generally angry about everything. We asked for ranch instead of the honey lime dressing for the salad and he literally rolled his eyes and then threw the salad at us when he came out. We didn't like many of the side items and were going to ask for some mac and cheese but we were a bit scared to since he got so upset about the ranch. The assistant was great though! And the server seemed to warm up a bit throughout the meal and was really good by the end - we must have just caught him at a busy time or something.

Oh, and I've heard that those servers at 50s PTC are just nasty! ;)

I have two stories... I'm usually not a complainer, but these two stick out in my head. I was a server/bartender before I was a mom, so it's not like I don't understand their job!

Last time DH and I were at Cali Grill (we'd been there twice) our server treated us like we were just low-class idiots who had never been to a nice restaurant before. It's not like we showed up in flip flops and cutoff shorts! Yeah, I have tattoos, big deal. Doesn't mean I'm illiterate or don't get the concept of fine dining. Which, CG is *hardly* fine dining... ugh. She just over-simplified everything and even over-enunciated her words. I was really ticked, she got her 18% but not a cent more.

CRT was worse... DH had pre-arranged to have a "champagne toast" in which we'd get to keep the glasses for our anniversary. So, our waitress who always seemed to be in too much of a rush to bother with us brought us the check, and so we left with the glasses (no box, we just assumed she forgot) and we get a message on our voicemail to return them immediately or we'd be charged $65 each!:scared1: Needless to say we brought them back ASAP the next morning. The hostess took our info after we explained the situation and said we'd get the glasses we were supposed to get in the mail. Never happened. Not a phonecall, email, letter, nothing. Ugh!! I can't help but wonder if we weren't the only people to whom this happened. :scared:

OMG! that CRT story is horrible!! you should write a letter or an email to management, I'm sure the people at Disney would understand and sympathize with your story!! Its worth a shot!

Honestly we have never had a rude server. Everybody is always so nice and cherry.

Best service I have to say has been at Le Cellier.

Also at Ohana. Our servers were awesome.
