Has anyone ever filed for SSI--what can I expect from a phone interview?

My sister filed a year ago and was denied. She filed an appeal and was denied....
Tomorrow morning I am doing a phone interview for her (she can't cope under pressure and this along with my Grandma's condition-- she's probably have an anxiety attack and thats if she'd even get on the phone).

This would be like filing for 'the first time". The gal on the phone yesterday said it wouldn't take long but couldn't tell me what I needed to know or expect exactly. I want to be as prepared as possible...

Any suggestions?

Tomorrow is going to be hectic.... My son has a chiro at 8:30, the interview @9:05, DMV to update his ID card, I need to hit the bank for travelers checks and cash and be to the airport by 11:30.

I had one for my son probably 5 years ago. From what I recall, they asked pretty basic questions. Mostly I think it was about income. So I needed bank statements and car values and the like. But my son's was for S(uplemental) S(ecurity) I(ncome) for a disability, not the S(ocial) S(ecurity) I(ncome) for retired folks.

Thank you! She "owns" my mom and dad's old van... I have no idea what the value is on it. (they gave it to her) Other then that it's just her welfare benefits....

You might be able to look up the Blue Book value online. Do a search on Blue Book or Kelly Blue Book. Sorry...can't put in a link. I'm on a weird Mac.

I had a telephone interview with them years ago. Just basic questions. Eventually, I had to go to their office any way.
