Has anyone ever experienced a broken coccyx (tailbone)?

My Mom did when I was younger. Motrin and sitting on a doughnut pillow for weeks. I still remember her taking her pillow to sit on for the long car ride to Disney that year. Good luck and I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Yep, twice. I think the broken collarbone (clavicle) is even less pleasant:rolleyes:. Though the doctor likely won't be able to do much, it isn't a bad idea to confirm that it is the tailbone and not a more serious injury.

Broke mine when I was in 4th grade falling off a hammock. Nothing they can do, just sit on a pillow or donut and take it easy for a few weeks.

Almost 30 years later I still have pain there sometimes. Usually when I've had a lot of strenuous activity. The other thing that sets it off is if I have to stand on a train. The constant shift back and forth causes a ton of pain!

I fractured mine twice, giving birth to each of the boys. Guess my daughter knew not to do that to her mommy!:lmao: Also was told nothing could be done and I still can't sit for long periods of time.

Use frozen peas to sit on rather than large ice bags. The peas mold to your bottom better!

It takes ages to heal, as everyone has said. Eventually I had mine injected with some cortisone. Been great ever since.

GOOD LUCK!

Yep, I fell down the stairs but my landing wasn't so good! Ouch!

I bruised mine years ago - so very painful.:sad1:
Some reading info that may be helpful. Hope you feel better soon.:grouphug:

Medical Treatment

In addition to home care, a physician may be able to provide further relief of pain with other medical and, rarely, surgical interventions.

•Stronger pain medications may be prescribed at the discretion of your physician.

•Stool softeners may be prescribed to prevent constipation.

•Injections of local anesthetics or corticosteroids into the coccyx area are sometimes required to treat continuing pain.

•Rarely, the coccyx may be surgically removed.

Broken tailbone? I bet that's a real pain in the butt.

I broke mine in Nov 04 and it took forever to even feel slightly better. I was out of work for a month because I couldn't even sit to drive my car. I had to be lying down or standing, there was NO sitting for me. My Dr gave me pain pills, but the tend to.... slow things down in the GI tract.... which didn't work well.

I find that to this day I tend to sit on one butt cheek more than another when sitting, and sitting for long periods of time bother me. It isn't horribly bad anymore, more annoying than anything else.

I hope you have better luck than me!
