I just read a thread about an upgrade in view, has anyone ever received a room size upgrade? For example Studio to 1Bdr. If the resorts are slow would they do this? I know you book with the points you have, but if the room is going to stay empty why not put some deserving DVCer in it?

Just a thought

Its very rare and generally doesn't happen because the resort is slow. It generally hapens when the desired room is out of service for some reason.

We were upgraded at BWV last year (don't remember if it was Nov. or Jan.) from a studio to a 1 BR. It was either the last room or next to last room down the hall from the elevator. I thought maybe noone wanted it since it was so far from the elevators. We were happy to get it though.

We were booked in a GV at OKW. They day before we were to leave, I got a call that they had overbooked. They asked us to move to a GV at BWV. It was very nice and we wouldn't have gotten one ever if it hadn't been for the overbooking. We were so excited and it was just perfect. It has only happened once to us.

this is less likely to happen at DVC resort - because the computer that MS uses is much better than the one CRO uses - of course they are lot less CM as MS than CRO too

at CRO they sometimes book too many standard views - so if you are the first person (or sometimes the last) at check in - you can get a up-grade. not because of anything you did but because the resort does not have enough standard view rooms.

this would only happen at a DVC resort - if when the 60 days period opens and CRO fills too many studios. Sometimes the DVC resorts don't even go to CRO they are filled before then.

so it just depends. good luck trying it! but I think if you want to upgrade just start saving the points.

We got bumped from a standard studio to a preferred 1-bedroom once. We get bumped from standard to preferred views about 50% of the time (bwv), so often that I would never actually book a preferred view.

The only time this has happened to us is the week of 9/11/01. We were scheduled for the studio on Saturday (9/8) night and then we were moving to a 2-bedroom (it was actually a lock-off unit). We "moved" (opened the door between the units, really)as scheduled on Sunday. I had went down early with some friends and the rest of my family was arriving Sunday evening. My friends stayed in the 2nd bedroom (our studio the evening before) and they were scheduled to leave on 9/13. My family and I were staying until 9/21.

As you know, all flights were cancelled after the tragedies in NY, DC and PA. Although they checked their flight before leaving for the airport on Thursday, it was cancelled and they were forced to come back to OKW. We had planned to go back into the studio (the second bedroom they had been using) for Friday and Saturday night and then back to the two-bedroom on Sunday morning. (I know, it's complicated, but we were trying to save points! :p ) They were unable to leave Orlando until Sunday morning - a hurricane had stranded planes in the north to add to the already chaotic situation.

Disney was great, though. When we explained our problem, they asked my friend to show the front desk their plane tickets and we were able to stay in the two-bedroom, giving them the use of the studio until they left on Sunday morning. We incurred no extra point usage for the extra 2 nights we used the larger part of the unit and my friends did not have to pay for a room somewhere else.

I understand that OKW was only 40% occupied at the time, so it was relatively easy for them to do this, but I was really grateful that they were so accommodating (though not surprised).

No one needs to "sell" me on Disney. I am a fan for life. But they were extremely gracious and kind during a very, very difficult time. They're tops in my book.
