Has anyone ever been upgraded and done online checkin?

I just completed my online checkin and I was wondering if anyone ever gets upgraded when they get there. I have never done online before and I have never been upgraded either, so I probably won't be, but was just wondering if I diminished my chances by not checking in with the hotel front desk.

Well, thats why I DONT do online check in. It takes the "personal" factor out of checking in...More times than not...after chatting with the CM..i HAVE gotten an upgrade. Usually, its a preferred room when i only booked a standard. But, i talk to him/her ask where their from, how is life going...i tell them about me and alot of times....you get favours by being personal.
So, i guess thats why i don't do online....

I've only heard of upgrades occurring when the booked room category is overbooked and there's nowhere else to move guests but into higher priced room categories. Other upgrades I've heard of aren't really upgrades, but little bonuses here and there that have nothing to do with the room.

I don't think doing online check-in versus regular check-in would make any difference. You still have to go to the front desk anyway to get your KTTW cards, at which point the CM has to make sure you got the room category you paid for.

DH & myself traveled last february for my 30th birthday and booked a studio at AKL & when we arrived he simply asked if there were any Savannah views since it was my birthday trip & they have us one!! It was really nice, we were on the fifth floor and every morning had a lot of animals right outside our balcony!!

Thanks for the input. I decided to do online checkin this time because we won't arrive until about 5:30. We are staying at BC and I want to get to the room as fast as I can so we can spend the evening at Epcot.

I will be there next week and I can't wait!!!!

We got room upgrades for both of our WL stays after doing online checkin. When we arrived our room that was assigned was one time a courtyard view and another a woods view, both after only paying for standard view. A lot may depend on the resort though. Upgrades happen fairly commonly at WL, and in our experience doing online checkin didn't hurt our upgrade chances. Enjoy your trip and potential ugrade!
