Has anyone else had the cc# stolen @ BWVs?

I just got me credit card statement the other day and there were severeal charges for gas that I did not make on it. The charges were in FL. The last place I used my card was BWV to pay for my Dining plan? I still have my card only the info was stolen. Chase has cancled the card for me and said the fraud charges will not be held against me. We stayed Feb 12-14, I was just wondering if there was a pattern here? If anyone else had this issue.

I have heard of this happening and it could happen anywhere. What did you do with your key card to the room?? Upon leaving your should either take all the cards with you or cut them up. All your credit card info is on the back of these cards and can easily be read with a magnetic strip reader.

There is no credit card info on the key cards, it is a false internal Disney account number. Purchases are billed to the room using that account number, THEN the actual credit card number on file is used by the resort computer to pay for the items charge to the internal account.

That's very strange. I know of another friends cc# who was stolen at Disney. Not at BWV, though.

I've heard of this before. On these boards I believe. It's called credit swiping. Usually some unscrupulous service personnel (most restaurant servers but may be some Front Desk staff) carry a portable credit swiper and swipe the magnetic strip for their own purposes. The numbers are then sold and used in dummy cards for gasoline and other incidental charges.

Contact Disney's Guest Relations immediately and report what happened to you. They may have a crook working for them now. It should be relatively easy for Disney to discover which CMs had access to your card number.

You didn't use your card anywhere but at BWV's? If that is the case they should be able to track the employee that used it. But if you did use it elsewhere while in that billing cycle, it will be dificult to figure out where the info was stolen from.....just because BWV was the last place that you used it doesn't necessarily mean that is where it happened.

Unfortunately Orlando has been hit hard with the info being stolen off of peoples credit cards, mainly due to the high volume of tourists and you are less likely to catch it right away.

We've had our # stolen a couple times now. Yes we were at BWV's both times it happened, but we had also shopped at Walmart both times. This last time while DH was in Walmart they had a "problem" and kept swiping his card over and over again. He called me over and I was about to get out my card and the cashier said "oh all set" . We were somewhat suspicious but on vacation so didn't give it too much thought until we got home and got a phone call. Someone tried to charge $5000 to a college in CA and got the expiration date wrong. We've also always used Alamo so who the heck knows. I really hope its not at the Boardwalk.

No we did not rent a car we drove from home. The only thing we used the card for was purchasing the deluxe dining plan while in wdw. We did not put a charge on our room key either. I will be sure to watch much closer from now on when I use my credit card.

I contacted the guest relations people at BWV and they transfered me to security. Security called me back and the person I spoke w/ said to me well if you had your card how could someone get gas other than you. I explained to him what I had heard about skimming and making dummy cards. He sholud understand that cards can be made since disney makes room keys and park tickets constantly.He told me there wasnt much they could do since the charges were not made on property and that the manager of the BW would be advised.

I plan on contacting member sevices on the DVCs website so it can be looked into from there end as well. I am not looking for anything from disney I just want them to look into it and if they have an internal problem to fix it. We ll see how it goes.

But it also makes sense that a tourist area like Disney could have a bad apple in their ranks, or someone with a wireless connection to the resort computers.

This seems like it is becoming a big problem. I'm seeing and hearing about this more and more at the resorts. There is also a rash of cc numbers getting stolen and used at SSR as well.

We used our regular debt card for gas not our chase credit card. The only place we used the Credit card was at the BWV front desk.

Skimming of credit cards is a huge problem, and Central Florida is a hotspot. A skimmer is no bigger than a pack of cigarettes, and they are easy to use right in front of the customer without being noticed.

There have been several recent threads about skimming specifically at DVC resort front desks, and I have no doubt the thefts are actually occurring there.

I would certainly contact MS by email and let them know. They may refer the matter to Disney security, who are quite active in investigating credit card fraud. It's a big problem, and it hurts Disney's image when it occurs at one of their properties.

DD is a CM and student, and had all her card info stolen a couple months ago. You'd almost rather the cards be stolen. There were two cc#'s and two debit card #'s. It is unnerving. We never did figure it out. Someone in Miami attempted to use the one which didn't have the credit limit required for the purchase. That flagged the others. The sad thing is they don't even bother to try and prosecute them. They just eat the losses. I don't know whether someone used a swiper or whatever they are called. I almost got the impression that new cards were then created from the numbers or magnetic imprint. Cell phone cameras are quite handy too, though mine certainly doesn't seem capable of taking a clear enough picture. I too have heard that central Florida is a hot bed for this crime. It's really a hassle going through all the changing of account numbers.

BWV and BCV, last two trips. Nobody cares.

I talked at length to the CC company. They don't care. They charge the gas station and WalMart back and collect a charge back fee so they, the CC company comes out ahead.

Disney Security doesn't care. The charges don't affect them and they say that they can't prove where the card information was obtained, even though on the last trip, the card was only used at BCV.

Wow!! Same thing happened to us on out trip Jan 7 to the 11th. Only used our card and front desk at SSR and at guest sevvices at downtown Disney. Theives racked up over $6000 in gas charges in Georgia and northen Florida. Royal pain to get it straighted out. Definetly will keep better taps on my accout online now. When I contacted Disney Security today regarding our CC##, they took a report. My parents AmEx had hundreds of dollars in gas charged from the Central FL area bought in late Jan and our Chase had gas purchases (and pre-auths) from Central FL and dinner at Universal charged on it on March 6-7. Since we all traveled together at stayed at SSR together in December and used our cards mainly on site, I called Disney today just to give them a heads up. Security was great and very interested in the info. We have a case # and everything with them. Although I do not expect anything to come of it, I am quite happy they took a report at least. Now that I know what restaurant it was at universal, I am going to call them too, to see if a card was present at purchase, or if they have an employee maybe helping them out along the way

A kudos to Chase visa as well. We got a call on Friday regarding the charges from that day and the day before, so they stopped it before it got worse. AmEx on the other hand, waited about 3 weeks before contacting my parents. AmEx was tipped off by their request for zip codes when making purchases, but only after $500+ had been bought.

Credit card fraud must be more rampant than I realized. Last week we got a call from WaMu questioning over $20,000 in charges to our credit card. We did not make any charges, and we weren't at WDW!

The credit agency said that thieves have sophisticated computers that do some kind of random number searches until they get a "hit." I guess ours was a hit

I may be naive, but I had higher hopes for Disney...
