Has anyone else filed 2015 taxes ?

Wow - that is fast. We received our first document yesterday. We will get everything by January 31st (and sometimes a day or so later). We will then schedule an appointment with our accountant. We do like to have them done by the end of Feb./early March.

I filed ours January 8th, as well as my SIL taxes, and we both got a text from the IRS saying they had been accepted today!? I was under the impression that they wouldn't start accepting returns till the 18th? Does it mean our refund will be sooner? I've always heard of a few certain people getting randomly selected to be processed early but it has never happened to us?

IRS is operating under it's Hub testing phase right now. It opened up yesterday. Selected returns will be accepted by them, but it doesn't change or affect the refund cycle schedule. You'll be in the same refund cycle as everyone else when e-file officially begins on Jan. 19th. Although, with that said, I have seen people get their refunds back sooner if they are put into other systems that the IRS still tests out like modernized e-file and such. (I own a tax prep. company...)

I think I got my college loan tax information (it is done pretty quickly since it is all digital) but I'm still waiting on W-2s. I guess they needed to report our medical insurance withdraws for the first time this year so there were issues adding that to our W-2s. We will get them next week digitally and will go in the mail the 31st.

Not yet but eager to - I usually do it right away! We haven't gotten a single tax document from employers, banks or Disney yet (I won a trip last year so I need to wait for the tax document for it) which is very strange. I suspect we'll be filing later this year... :crazy2:

I received my w2 from work (downloaded and printed it today) and received my mortgage document yesterday.

If you have either a Federal Marketplace or State Exchange Health Plan, you will receive a 1095A from the Exchange. They won't be issued till about Feb.2nd and you cannot file your taxes until you receive the form!

No, but I filed 4th Q estimated taxes today!

I usually do taxes for my DS and DD too. DD made money in 3 states last year, so that's going to be fun!

Wish I could, but no documents yet.

I did a practice run with DH's last 2015 paycheck info and my business records because I am trying to get DD's FAFSA together. But at this point, it's just an estimate and I will have to go back and make sure all the numbers are correct once I get the W2s and statements.

OP: I got a message yesterday stating that the updated forms are now available, so maybe that's why yours went through. Perhaps they don't need to wait until the 18th if everything is ready now?

I got an email today and logged onto the marketplace and my 1095A was ready.just had to print it out!

I don't have any of the necessary documents yet.

Regardless, I will file either on or very close to April 15th, as I do every year. We own a business and we try very hard to never get a refund by estimating our quarterly payments very carefully. If we do end up owed a refund, it simply gets applied to our first quarter payment (which is due on April 15th...it makes no sense to have them mail me the check that I have to mail them the same day).

Every year I'm amazed at how early some of you get your taxes done. We won't get our W2s for another week or 2, and most of our investment info won't be done til sometime in February.

We have DH's W2, student loan statements, and my stock statements from one company. We usually end up filing mid Feb - Mid March. Probably same time frame this year, too. I think we might have moved into a new bracket this year, though, so I am a little afraid. I had a ton of overtime and it didn't even dawn on me to change things around. Grrr and stuff.

I get mine done the afternoon I get my W-2 and loan information. I don't want to change missing the deadline or anything and feel more comfortable when it is all done and filed. I heard the longer you wait to do it the more open you are to identity theft through tax fraud.

We have to wait on our 1099's which sometimes does not come into February. And then they are sent out to the tax man.

We're still waiting on most of our tax info to come in....but came back to post that it was just announced that our state will not issue state tax refunds until March 1. Apparently to stop fraud. Boo!

Won't get W-2 until early Feb and it isn't available online so nope, not filing yet. We should get a refund but we have ours set so that the refund is small.
