I filed ours January 8th, as well as my SIL taxes, and we both got a text from the IRS saying they had been accepted today!? I was under the impression that they wouldn't start accepting returns till the 18th? Does it mean our refund will be sooner? I've always heard of a few certain people getting randomly selected to be processed early but it has never happened to us?

Ugh, not yet. It's the long wait for our W2s from our employers. My stuff is ready to go with my tax software, so as soon as I have them in my hot little hands, it's go time!

I wish you well on getting an early return.

No W-2's yet. In previous years, both my wife's employer and mine would mail them January 31st, but make them available online by the second week of January. Now the online version won't be available until January 31st either.

Just started getting tax documents today. I wish I could do my taxes this early - won't be till mid February probably

Jealous! We've always been able to file early because DH was self-employed and didn't have to wait on W2s but I didn't really care much because we didn't get big refunds. This year, we're expecting a much larger than usual refund because of a mid-year change of circumstances but DH's coworkers warned him that the W2s are always postmarked 1/31 and start arriving about a week later. So I don't anticipate being able to file for at least another month.

Never in any rush to file. I always owe and don't want to give them a dime before I have to.

I was self employed for part of the year and the rest of the year I worked for the government. My husband works for a large Media company; both our W2's were available online Jan 6. This year is an exception: the change in our income source that we are ready to go and filed. Next year I will be in no hurry as we will have to pay in!

For employers, the ssa.gov (where we report w2 info) was down from Friday to late Sunday so that the site could be updated with new 2015 info. That led me to believe the Fed government wasn't quite ready for taxes this year.

We usually owe and are still waiting on documents. It'll be a little while before we file.

I've always wondered how people file taxes this early. Self employed, maybe, with no investments? We're still waiting for all of our tax documents except the statement from our childcare. That's like 15 documents!

I have almost all the information necessary so I have that inserted in the software, but there are still statements from third parties which will include information I will need to complete the return. Some forms have not been finalized. There are almost always slight changes to laws which affect filing.

My W2 just became available online yesterday, but I can only download it at work, otherwise I'd be doing my taxes today.

Not yet. I might do them this weekend before we leave for vacation if I can get all the forms together. I know most of them are available online and shoudl be ready by now.

I can never file early, I don't get the statements from our investments until early April :-(

We never get our w2s until close to the deadline. Were gathering stuff and doing the manual work we need to now so we can file and get our refund asap!!
