I find that I am either A don't respond to a thread but still subscribe B put in my two cent but don't subscribe because you are not interested in the thread just wanted to put in your two cents

"Sometimes" to both....I do read a lot of threads, and usually don't post. It's rare that I will only post something like "good for you," or "I agree." I usually have something more to say....and a lot of times I will spend time writing up a response and then cut it in half or delete it entirely because my self critique is, "who wants to read that?" On the other hand, if it's something I am following, I will subscribe just to check back and see what developed, even if I have nothing to contribute.

I also send a link to a lot of posts to my sister and sister-in-laws...even if I am not posting....if the topic is something they are interested in.

I guess that's why my post count isn't very high. Someone called me on that once, writing something like, "you've been a member a long time, but you don't post much....you must not know what's going on." (I didn't think that was very nice....but you gotta have thick skin if you want to play in the yard.)

I don't do that, here, but I do like the idea of each person pretty-much getting one shot to inject their perspective into certain threads. I wonder if vBulletin supports "Allow Each User to Post Just One Message In this Thread". That would be cool. And I really like the idea that that would result in shorter threads overall, especially for discussions of matters of different opinion (rather than just clique-y "How are things today?" and similar threads - I see no good from limiting posting to those threads). I know that some posters deliberately unsubscribe after some specific number of replies (100?), and seem to prefer that approach; I used to do something similar - unsubscribing after Page 4.

If I feel I can contribute to the thread I do. If I have something to say, I say it. I don't think I've ever subscribed to a thread I wasn't part of and in all these years I've been on here, I think I may have subscribed to 3 or 4 posts ever and most likely only if I started it and wanted to know when people replied after I stopped watching the thread.
