My husband is looking forward to having some good Mexican food while in Cozumel. I was just wondering if anyone had eaten dinner in any of the local restaurants, and could give us a recommendation of where to go??

to eat at Carlos N Charlies. It can get pretty rowdy in there with the drinking but they have really good food. We've also eaten at Casa Denis which is a little "mom and pop" type mexican food place. It is just past the San Miguel shopping center which is near the Punta Langosta Pier (I think that is where DCL ties up) and it is just a little wooden house on Calle 1 Sur and beyond the San Miguel plaza and another one that our friends have gone to but not us and they said it was pretty good is La Choza. They specialize more into special regional dishes like pork in tomato sauce not so mexican. Carlos N Charlies is a good rowdy bar if you want something like that...we try to eat there at least 1 meal while in Cozumel and in Cancun. The Casa Denis serves homestlye mexican cooking. They have some tables outside and some inside and the prices were moderate. I do have to say however you have to be willing to dine in a 1/2 star type restaurant rather than a 3 or 4 star restaurant in order to eat at places like Casa Denis. Carlos N Charlies is more like a Mexican version of Chile's maybe.

We ate at Pancho's Backyard...fabulous, authentic, and very very fresh....also, priced reasonably...immaculate bathrooms as well ( Anthony Bourdain in his book Kitchen Confidential wrote that clean bathrooms = clean kitchen)

This restaurant is on the recommended list by DCL....check the "Shopping in Paradise" flyer when you get it in your stateroom...

We ate at Las Palmeras in December and I would have to say that the food was just OK. Not great.

We had lunch at Pancho's Backyard with the kids and then my husband and I had dinner at Carlos and Charlies. The atmosphere, service, and food were amazing at Pancho's and I would go back there in a heartbeat. Dinner was also very good at Carlos and Charlies. We sat the bar and waited for our table since we had requested a small table all the way at the front of the restaurant facing the ship. It was a great area to be as you were away from some of the noise and could watch the sights from outside as well. Plus, watching the Magic while eating dinner~priceless!

Is Pancho's Backyard within walking distance from the ship?? And if so, is it hard to find? I'm not against taking a cab, we're just the walking type.

We ate at Carlos N' Charlies also. Good food, but what a wild place! Don't bring your kids there.

Here is another vote for Panchos. We loved it! It's great food and great atmosphere! From the ship you can take a taxi, but we took a horse and carriage ride for a 1/2 hour before our meal and it cost $20. They left us right in front of the restaurant. You will not regret it! The guacamole is homemade right in front of you.

Pancho's is definitely within walking distance of the ship...it is toward the end of the main shopping street....

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think Pancho's Backyard sounds like the place for us. And then a stop at Carlos & Charlies for a drink and entertainment!!! ;)

Speaking of homemade guacamole, those on the Western cruise might also want to be on the lookout in Key West during the sunset celebration. When we were there, there was a woman selling homemade guac that she whipped up right in front of you when you ordered it. It was delicious and reasonably priced. We were eating it while watching the Cat Man, and many of the people around us asked us where we had gotten it because it looked so good.
