Our family of 4 is going to Disney world June 9th-15th. I have 2 boys ages 9 and 5. Does anyone have any thoughts on the Sci-Fi Drive in for lunch? I have been reading mixed reviews of this restaurant? Is it worth making an ADR for this place? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hi..I went there last May and we made an ADR... I would def. do that!..the place was packed!..I think for your two boys they will like it!...I loved it...the food is a little pricey but it wasn't bad!..i know it gets mixed reviews but we loved it when we went! :Pinkbounc

Ate there in Oct 97 with DW and DD's 16, 14, 10 we found the meal enjoyable, the girls were given free frisbies and the cost was just over $110, have not been there since only because we preferred Hollywood and Vine

As of late I think you need ADR to get into this restaurant. I've heard CM's telling people who walk up that they won't take you without a reservation.

For a ressie in June, a lunch at Sci-Fi will be great! First of all, it will be like night and day (literally, LOL). You come from the bright sunshine and heat of outside into this cool, dark summer night sky -- WAY cool. The atmosphere alone is worth the ressie! Try to get a "car" to sit in - they are fairly plentiful, and your boys would be further wowed by that. The movie "snips" they show are really old corny "horror" flicks, and then the old-style advertisements. My kids enjoy them and aren't at all frightened by them. (If you have ever seen mystery science theater 3000 - it's the kind of movies they would LOVE to poke fun at). The food is pretty good, especially if you stick to the simple stuff - burgers, salads, and such. I will admit, though, we have dined here several times and have had everything from that type fare to shrimp pasta and ribs. One time I ordered 2 appetizers, so I could save room for a milkshake, piggie that I am... (Their crispy spring rolls and a salad make a nice summer meal!) If the kids get those drinks with the glowing cubes, they make a BIG impression here, in the dark. (Or if you're the thrifty type, buy the cubes on-line and hand them each one at the restaurant, LOL...)

We didn't go to Sci-Fi last trip - thought we would give PT cafe a try. In short, my boys are begging me - do Sci Fi again! It's their fave MGM restaurant. ;) So we already have ressies for this August! Enjoy!

The food is OK but the atmosphere is terrific! Definitely do lunch over dinner and I agree with the earlier poster that it is a good place to beat the midday heat!
Have fun!

Sci-Fi is fun, but not gourmet food. DS is 10 and this is on his "must do"
list every year. If you are just looking for burgers, and shakes...go for it. Although I must say the BLT soup was yummy.

We'll be trying Sci-Fi for the first time in June. I've heard the atmosphere is awesome and the food is so-so. I've been told...stick to burgers and you'll be safe. :)

If you have your heart set on eating at any restaurant, definitely make an ADR. :thumbsup2

We have eaten there many times. As many on this board will tell you, lunch can be good (this last January it was very good), but dinner can be a gamble. For a burgers and fries lunch, we really enjoy this place. Also, be sure to try the onion rings and milk shakes!

Food is very average. have eaten there 3 times, most recent this past July. There really isn't alot to choose from at Disney Studios. I would normally suggest 50's PT, but I guess the Sci Fi would be as good as any. Atmosphere at Sci Fi is strange. The sound to a B Sci Fi movie is very low and most people try to listen to it. You're in a large warehouse and you can hear a pin drop. If you have a group 4 or larger, everyone sits in different rows of car seats. To talk to someone else in your group, you have to turn around to see them.

We're going to give a try this time around, we had reservations last time, but MGM was so dead that day that we must have gone on every ride 2-3 times and still had 2 hours til our res., so we skipped (we did cancel though!). I've heard they make a great milkshake...Yumm-o!!!!

My family always go to Sci-Fi. It's cool and relaxing and the atmosphere is great....the movies are sooo cheesy! The burgers are really good-I get one each time! Do get an ADR makes life so much easier!

I think it is a good choice for lunch. DD loves sitting in the cars and watching the cheesy old movies!

It is a major favorite of ours...big portions...we split meals, except the onion rings...those are too good , DD and DS each get their own huge plate! We were tacky on our last trip and brought in our own lite-up ice cubes and added to our drinks ourselves... but saved $10 and we had the cubes from Target so.... :rolleyes1 We love it there...but be prepared, even with an ADR you can still wait...ours was almost 45 minutes after, but it was DS B-Day and that was where he had hoped to eat and was willing to wait the extra time. He loves those B movies...me too!

Lots of fun for lunch. Stick with the burgers, rings, and shakes and you'll be fine(and maybe not all that hungry at dinner time). :earsboy:

We go every time we go to WDW and really enjoy it. It is one of the kids favorite places to go and the food has always been great!

I was very happy with Sci-Fi because kids aren't picky about food and they just loved the experience.

Most people say that the food is disappointing. I didn't find it bad at all...it just wasn't mouth-watering like the food in most of the other Disney restaurants.

We were allowed to get milkshakes using the dining plan, which was nice. The milkshakes were all very good (we tried the chocolate, the cookies and cream, and the strawberry).

I ordered the Onion Rings appetizer and it was so big that between me and my two kids we couldn't finish it. My kids both got the cheese, fruit, and dip appetizer off of the kids menu. It came with two big cheddar cheese sticks, some sliced apples, and some grapes, plus a yogurt fruit dip.

For the main course I had the ribs. The weren't the best ribs I've had by any stretch of the imagination, but they weren't bad in any way. My son had the chicken breast with vegetable and potatoes off of the kid's menu. He said it was really good. My daughter just had the mac and cheese.

For dessert I had the cheesecake. It was very good. It was garnished with M&Ms and cracker jacks with caramel sauce on top. It looked really cool, but I made sure to pick around the cracker jacks...I love cheesecake and didn't think I'd like it mixed with caramel popcorn. My kid had ice cream sundaes for dessert and they looked good.

Sometimes I think the "experience" is worth more than the gourmet taste of the food and this place was definitely an experience. Some of the servers were on roller skates, the cars were fun to eat in, and my kids had a blast. I'd give the food a B- but there was plenty of it and the atmosphere really made up for the food.

Would I go back a second time if it was just adults? No. Would I go back a second time with kids? Absolutely.

The atmosphere is really cool at Sci-Fi. In addition, if you are a burger person, they have good burgers and milkshakes. We have eaten there on two of our trips and will surely go back some time in the future. :thumbsup2

We ate here last Sept. on the free dinning plan. It was our first time and was a big hit with the kids and us. We thought the food was pretty good. The waitress ( :wave2: MEGAN) was just the best.
I think it is a must do, when at Disney. :thumbsup2
