I've wanted to try the Maya Grill restaurant at Coronado Springs Resort (I think it's CRS in Dis lingo, but not sure). Has anybody out there eaten there in the recent past? The whole Mayan thing appeals to me. I would love to hear someone's opinion of the place. The Unofficial Guide doesn't speak too highly of the place. What do you think?

Well--first thing is I wouldn't put too much stock in the Unofficial Guide's dining recommendations...about ANY restaurant.
Actually, there isn't much "mayan" about the food there. Used to be they had a nice, interesting menu--but no one seemed to be eating there, so they changed it to a Steakhouse type place. Judging from the lack of reviews, appears still few folks eat there.
One problem they have is being somewhat off the beaten path--.

I was looking through some Disney stuff from past trips just last night and ran across a mini-menu for Maya Grill that was about 5 years old. At that time it was a southwest/central american food themed restaurant and it was very good, with interesting food.

However, when we last went in early 2003, previous food theme was gone and it was an ordinary steak/chicken/ribs/fish place. Not only an ordinary menu, but ordinary food as well (although the magaritas had not changed and were still quite good).

We were told in 2003 that the menu was going to switch back to the old one, but I don't know if this ever happened.

One nice thing about Maya Grill was that since it was off the beaten path for a higher end restuarant (e.g., not in a deluxe resort), it was never very crowded.

I'll respectfully disagree with both posters' appraisal of the Unofficial Guide. I admire the book's tone: it's certainly not reverential. I'll accept as many dismissals of culinary horrors like Capt Jack's and Coral Reef as I can (it's my mission, actually, to warn as many people as possible on this site to stay away from Capt Jack's :) ).

To be honest, most dining experiences at WDW range from okay to pretty good, while a few are outstanding and rank with any offered at a four-star restaurant in a big city (Citricos, Cali Grill, Artist Point, a couple of others).

Thanks to all of you for posting. I wish I had went there long ago. If they have changed to just an ordinary steakhouse from something more "ethnic", then I missed out. I was hoping for something similar to what I had experienced in the Yucatan. Steakhouses are a dime a dozen. Especially ordinary ones.

I had to give this a bump. I'm still holding out for someone with a recent experience at Maya Grill. Anybody?

I'll help you bump it along Tiziminchac !

We stayed at CSR in 2002, and my DH fell in love with Maya Grill.
I remember it as good, and a definite value for our silver plan wishes, but DH swears it was aweome.
The bread and dipping sauce they bring to your table is wonderful.

It was his number one dinner request as we began planning our itineray this time!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We ate there in July 2003. It was our least favorite meal of our trip. I wouldn't say it was bad, but just not nearly as good as the other places that we ate.

Well if you eat there on your next trip, please post a review. And I will do the same. I'm planning a couple of trips next month but the friends I'm going with don't have passes and it's not as easy to get them to leave the parks until closing. So it may have to be a solo thing for me or a date. But the way things are going, it will be solo!
