As a WDW vet I am used to the dining plan to take care of all our meals. Well since DL doesn't really have a plan i was wondering about this. We will be staying at HOJOs and I thought about taking a electric grill with is to our room and make breakfast there that way and come back to the room and make lunch. And then have a awesome dinner either at the parks or else where. What do you guys think. I'm also a soon to be certified Chef so I am always thinking about ways to make meals.:thumbsup2

I am thinking that might violate some fire code but it is a good idea if legal. :thumbsup2

Personally I'd be concerned about the cooking smells bothering my neighbors at the hotel since there aren't the proper cooking vents in the room. There are plenty of affordable places to eat breakfast around DLR, plus no lugging food to your room or cleaning up.
You can always do muffins, yogurts and fruit for breakfast in your room too. If you really need eggs for breakfast I think there are gadgets that allow you to cook eggs in a microwave if the room has one.
I think unless a room has a kitchen cooking should be nixed in my opinion.

sounds like too much work for vacation.:rotfl:
you aren't going to have much fridge space either, so I don't know what you plan on cooking.

I can't remember where, but I did read something about others doing this at Hojo's. I don't know if it's okay with Hojo's though. I'd check first.:)

We've brought an electric frying pan with us a couple times to make the kids grilled cheese sandwiches...but that's all we used it for. I guess we could have done pancakes but the hotel had a great breakfast so we didn't need it for breakfast stuff. We've also brought our own toaster before...then found out that our room already had one.

I'd think that it would depend on what your cooking...like someone posted, the smells might bother neighbors if your cooking anything that has a strong smell.

In regard to fire codes in hotels that's a maybe. In regard to the smell in hotels, yeah you probably wouldn't want anyone to know you have it in the room. Hotels frown on that, that's why people rent condos.

If i was in the room next to you (& you were cooking breakfast).....you wouldn't have to worry about the "smells"....but you WOULD have to make a little extra for me. :lmao::rotfl:

I think that it would be a great wasting time, to go out of the park, to go to the hotel, to prepare the lunch and then to return to the park: How much time do you calculate in doing everything?.
In the personal thing, our family we always share the meal, since in the park they serve very very big portions, the first time that we ask for meal made us sad to leave the meal and we take her to ourselves to the hotel, since then we share the meal. :thumbsup2

Awesome, I like my french toast a little crispy, please.

Thanks for the response. Good point about the smells. I was thinking like grilled cheese and maybe burgers. Or pancakes stuff like that. I always think of things like this as a almost chef and a person who has had weight loss surgery. I'll have to check with the hotel. If they say no I'll just buy lunch meat and stuff like that.

We brought a sandwich maker to The Portofino last September and made pizza pockets. If you are already planning on heading back to the hotel for a mid-day break, or using it for making breakfast, then sounds good to me...as long as its okay with HOJOs.

When we drive I always bring our mini BBQ. If you see a woman with her BBQ making pancakes and bacon at a rest stop from WA to CA-say HI!:thumbsup2

To the OP, I also use it once we arrive at the hotel. We always have a day of rest and I will make turkey dogs or warm up chili that I've frozen and packed with me.

I never leave the parks to come back and cook. Yuck! I do enough of that at home- this is my vacation to! Plus part of the fun of vacation and being at Disney is enjoying all the yummy food!:thumbsup2

I will say that I usually make breakfast in the mornings if we go to DCA, since they don't open until later. For DL, we pack in muffins (that I previously made of course) and juice and eat after we've gone on a few rides. Usually on the days we go to DCA, we end up back at the hotel around 6-7pm. Just not that much for us to do there all day...and then I will make dinner on those nights. But only on those nights, I never plan to leave early, cook and then return to the parks.

As far as fire codes go, I can tell you it's a no-no inside your room. I worked as a hotel front desk manager for several years and you are not allowed to have your own hot plates, toaster ovens, or BBQ's inside the rooms. But I can also say...don't ask...don't tell. If you are responsible and open the windows and for goodness sakes- pay attention! you'll be fine. I mean they have kitchenettes for some rooms, so what's the big deal if you bring in your own toaster vs. use a toaster provided by the hotel, right? I would suggest though that you use the balcony (if you have one) to cook on whenever possible. Just to be on the safe side and then you don't have to worry about the food smells inside the room. Which BTW, the hotel will charge you if you stink up the room and they are unable to get ride of it. Can anyone say...curry?

I've never done it, but I did eyeball this cool little appliance I saw in a catalog. I think it was JC Penneys. It was a combo unit that had a toaster oven, coffee maker, and griddle. It was pretty cheap, too, like $39. I thought of taking it to DL but then rejected the idea as too labor-intensive. I never actually figured out where I would use it but it did intrigue me! http://www.nextag.com/3_-_in_-_1-toaster-oven/shop-html

I'd probably set off the smoke alarms like I do at home and the whole hotel would hate me!
