Has anyone done this before?

I'm not sure what to do - we booked 6 nights at POP between Xmas & NY's for me, the DW & DS, who's 2. Turns out that now my parents might join us. However, as the DS is not under 2, only 4 people are allowed in a room. The rates at this time are $122 US a night, and we don't want to get another room at that price and I don't even know if there are any available anyway.

Was wondering if other people have come across this situation? I know it's not ethical, but we have been wondering if it's that big of a deal to "not inform" POP of the fifth person? We have visited various resorts in the past and people are coming and going all the time. Do they have any way of monitoring this, or is it simply an honor system?

I'd appreciate some input please. Thanks.

Occupancy rules are for 4 persons plus 1 child under age 3 in a crib.

Your 2 year old is fine - you have no problem - well, except that you may need to pay $10 per night extra per adult for more than 2 adults in the room.....

Those rooms are awfully small to have 4 adults and a 2 year old together for 6 nights. Plus it will be one of the busiest times of the year in the parks, large crowds, etc...if it were me I think I'd try to get the second room. A little bit of quiet time with your DW will probably be much needed after a few days of all that, wouldn't you think? ;)

It all depends on how much time you think you will be in the room. We've done the All-Stars with 2 adults and 2 large teens with no problem - but we were only in the room to sleep and shower.

Agreed, and if it were just the nuclear family with teens or as is even for one or two nights I'd say wing it. But this situation is different!! They have a 2 year old! And their parents! For 6 nights!

Bgula, just wondering, what does your DW want to do?

Even though I love to stay on site this might be a time when I'd consider perhaps staying in a spacious suite or house off site (due to availability and price).

You can legally stay there -- the magic age to count as a person is 3 not 2 -- but you'll pay $20 plus tax in extra adult charges and be a bit crowded.

My dh and I could not share a small room and bathroom with either of our parents -- have you done this before?

We consider the room as just for sleeping, so I'm not overly concerned about the crowded situation. My DW is in agreement with me - actually she's the one who is saying sneak my parents in! At this time of year, there don't seem to be any bargains to be had, so the cheaper the better as it's just a quick trip to feed our withdrawal symptoms after visiting the world last summer.

I asked the CM when I booked the room what the cutoff age was as I thought I had read 2 or under, but she indicated that the age was for <2. Can anyone confirm this?

For that many nights I would check on the rates for some that allow 5 to a room or possible a cabin. Those are great!

It's always been under 3. There should be a portable crib for your little one.

You won't be sneaking anyone in unless you don't tell the front desk about the 2 extra adults). There is an extra charge for each adult beyond the first two in the room.

Best wishes -

We've spend 7 nights at Riverside with only 3 of us in the room. At the time our son was 4 1/2. With three people and a stroller the room was cramped. Even after we unpacked everything, put the suitcases out of the way, I couldn't even imagine how difficult it would be to get around with 4 adults and a child. Some how I would find a way to get that second room.

unless you plan on doing gymnastics in the room you will be just fine......the rooms are stuffy whether its 2 people or 5 and i hardly doubt you will be able to get another room at this point for those dates. and $122 is very pricey for the room as it is .... i say mums the word and have a great time

:teeth:

They have great rates for that time of year if you're a teacher/gov't worker....

We booked last minute last year (September) for 12/27-1/1 trip and got the $129 teacher rate. AllStars were $114 last year, I talked my sister into the extra $15/night per room for the location and space....Well worth the extra IMHO!

We're heading down to the Swan again in a few weeks and can't wait!

:sunny:

From everything that I've read, a child under 3 does not count as a person in the room. For piece of mind, simply call CRO again and ask. I think that the CM you spoke with gave some bad information.

If and when they do arrive at the resort, just add them to your existing reservation. It sounds like their plans are still up in the air anyway.

I would wait to let Pop know until you are there. With any luck they won't charge you the extra $20/night for the two extra adults, but if you plan to go to early entry you will need to show keys for them, not to mention the fact that they are going to want keys to access the rooms.

I would also look into the Swan/Dolphin and if they don't have all the nights I would consider a split stay, unless you are totally opposed to that.

Yes, the Pop room would be very tight. I stayed there last Feb with my 4yo and my sister. I had my son on a makeshift bad on the floor that would probably be about the same size as a porta-crib andhad room (barely) to wheel the stroller in the room (it's a mid size stroller, not one of the humongous ones). Obviously you'll have enough bed space and as long as you're not in the room a lot and don't bring tons of clothes you should be fine. I use a hanging toiletry bag, which would help in your situation since it would be tough to have all the bathroom stuff out without much sink space.

We stayed in 1 room at ASMO with 3 adults(myself, DH, and my mother), a 4 yo, and a 20 month old in a crib. Since we were mostly there to shower and sleep, we had no problem. Not exactly what you are planning, but still a good amount of people.
And yes, it is under 3, not under 2 that doesnt count.

...having shared a rather large BW deluxe room with my BIL and SIL. Yes, we paid the $10 extra per person but it would not have been worth it if they paid ME!!! Consider other alternatives!

This seems to be one of those "depends on how much time you need to spend in your room". My fiance' , sister and bil and I all stayed in a room off site:mad: in 2000 for 9 nights and the rooms were the same size as the all star rooms. We never had a problem. We used the room to sleep and shower. Now with a little one it might be different. I would look into Fort Wilderness Cabins and see if you can find any discounts. They worked great for us when my fiance, his sister and her two children 7 and 9 went last year. They can be a little pricey but
with a discount a good find. They only have one bathroom but they have a kitchen. Or if you rather pay about the same get the two value resort rooms.
