Has Anyone Done the Up Close with a PENGUIN Tour??

Can you tell me about it? How much of the hour is spent WITH penguins? Do they have jackets for you to wear when in with the penguins? I heard it's about 30 degrees in there....

How does it compare with the Behind the Scenes tour as far as penguins go?

We're looking for some serious penguin time, but if the actual penguin tour doesn't include much one on one time, perhaps the behind the scenes is more worth it??

I've been wondering about this too. DS is a penguin fanatic. The tour prices seem off to me. Can't remember the name, but one that sounds more inclusive costs less than the penguin only tour.

Anyone know what the difference is???

OP here. I contacted Sea World and asked about the tour and this is what they sadi:

You will go behind the scenes to learn how we care for the penguins. You will get to touch (pet) a penguin and are free to take pictures of penguins and a puffin (you will not get to touch the puffin). The time spent in the room with the penguin is approximately 20 minutes; however, you will be with a tour group of up to 20 people so your individual time touching the penguin is brief. My son and his girlfriend (a penguin lover) took this tour and were absolutely thrilled with it if that helps. She had a smile on her face for days!

I would still love to hear some DISer's opinions!!!

If you're looking for a compairson between Behind the Scenes Tour and The Penguin Tour...and want to know which you'll get more time with the penguins.....


The Penguin Up Close Tour you'll get more interaction. You will acutally get to go into the Penguin Encounter and see the back areas there. And you spend the entire hour in the buliding (and roughly, as stated above 20 mins) with the penguins in the encounter.

Behind the Scenes, if I do recall, is an hour and half long. And you do lots of different things. So you're penguin time will be very brief; since you also have to tour the rescue/rehab area, pet a shark, visit behidn the scenes at Wild Arctic, as well as your penguin touch for you and everyone else on your tour.

So, I'd suggest the Penguin tour if you're looking for more of a penguin thing. If you want to learn/see lots of behind the scenes stuff, then the other tour would be better for.

I was just wondering the same thing.

I have been watching Youtube videos and some people are right in the actual exhibit walking around with them, and some others only in the small little area behind the little gate with the worker.

That's a big difference in the experience, in my opinion. How do you do know if you do one vs the other?
