I ate there last month for dinner. It was fantastic. By no stretch of the imagination was it like a Denny's or Sysco pre-prep variety food. It was fresh and cooked to order. It was high quality, and the quality and knowledge of the Chef and kitchen staff certainly showed.
I am a foodie, and have worked in the food industry for numerous years. It takes a lot, an awful lot to impress me food wise. Captains Grill impressed me, as far as food anyway (our server was a bit slow/absent for my liking).
Next to California Grill, this was my second favorite meal of that 10 night trip.
I had the New England Lager Mussels as my appetizer. I am fanatical, almost anal about mussels and their preparation. These by far were the best mussels I have ever had at Disney(my previous #1 on property was Narcossees). These rank as the #2 best bowl I have ever eaten, period. Those mussels were expertly cleaned and prepared. I'm just about drooling over my keyboard thinking about them. My DP had the lettuce wedge as an app. The lettuce was crisp, as was the bacon. The green goddess dressing was perfectly balanced.
As an entree I had the tenderloin, medium. It was cooked and seasoned beautifully. I did not care for the tart, it was too rich and heavy. I may love to eat, but sometimes I just like some crisp veggies as a side. (my notes don't reflect what my DP had as an entree.....maybe my food porn photos captured it, I'll have to check)
For dessert, I had the New England Style Milk cake. OMG!!! It was fresh, light (as in airy), and brought back memories of childhood.
For what it's worth, we were on
DDP and we have DDE. I have pictures on my other computer. I'll add photos of my meal.
