Has anyone dined at the Captains Grill?

I ate there last Dec and quite enjoyed it. I needed to book something for Sept when my dh, dd and I are there. My ds, his wife, step-daughter and her friend are joining us for a meal, so we booked Captains Grill. Ds doesn't have to pay to get into a park, and we can all eat together midday. And I think there is something for everyone on that menu.

I guess I started this oooops! Staying at the YC, first nite and wanted something easy. Any other suggestions on the BW? Already going to spoodles later THANKS

We tried it twice when it was still the Yacht Club Galley, and sadly, were disappointed each time.

Mediocre burgers, slow service, ordinary food, less than friendly wait staff.

Why did we go? We had 10% off with DVC membership at that time.

We went back on the chance that we just had an "off" night, but decided we are not going back again.

Again, this was a couple of years ago. Maybe things are different, with a different name, now.

The great thing about disboards is EVERYONE can express an opinion. Sorry my opinion is a dissenting one. All I can say is unless this place has a major overhaul, we won't be returning. :rolleyes1 There is a cornucopia of great restaurants in the Boardwalk area to choose from to have a so-so meal.

I agree, it's great that we all don't like and love the exact same places, can you imagine how crowded it would get. You would probably be amazed at the places I've eaten at many times and will not go back to now. I generally do try a place a couple of times before crossing them off my list. Since we recently crossed Cape May and Spoodles off our list, we are quickly running out of places on the boardwalk to eat at. (After several disappointing meals at both of these locations, we will be taking a long break before trying them again in a couple of years. Of course, we use to enjoy both, but no longer.)

We have eaten there for lunch at our last two visits and we will be back there again in May. Everything was great and not a complaint from any of us. We've enjoyed the crab cakes, chowder, caesar salads, fish & chips, lobster rolls and sandwiches.

Please don't let anyone stop you from posting a negative opinion.

They are all needed in order to get a good feel for the overall performance of a restaurant. If there are too few opinions, then it could have been from people that were just there on an off day.

If several opinions get posted, then you can gauge pretty well how good or bad an establishment is.

That said, personnel and management change over time, so an up to date review should carry more weight than an older one.

We have gone to the Captains Grill for both breakfast and dinner since the change. The food is very good. We are going back when we stay at the BCV in November 2008.

We ate breakfast there in May. We were staying at the BC, so we chose it for a day we did Disney Studios. The buffet was only so-so. The homemade pancakes were fabulous though. My oldest son got the chocolate chip ones, they were massive-like plate size. I reccomend ordering off the menu and passing on the buffet.

I ate there last month for dinner. It was fantastic. By no stretch of the imagination was it like a Denny's or Sysco pre-prep variety food. It was fresh and cooked to order. It was high quality, and the quality and knowledge of the Chef and kitchen staff certainly showed.

I am a foodie, and have worked in the food industry for numerous years. It takes a lot, an awful lot to impress me food wise. Captains Grill impressed me, as far as food anyway (our server was a bit slow/absent for my liking).

Next to California Grill, this was my second favorite meal of that 10 night trip.

I had the New England Lager Mussels as my appetizer. I am fanatical, almost anal about mussels and their preparation. These by far were the best mussels I have ever had at Disney(my previous #1 on property was Narcossees). These rank as the #2 best bowl I have ever eaten, period. Those mussels were expertly cleaned and prepared. I'm just about drooling over my keyboard thinking about them. My DP had the lettuce wedge as an app. The lettuce was crisp, as was the bacon. The green goddess dressing was perfectly balanced.

As an entree I had the tenderloin, medium. It was cooked and seasoned beautifully. I did not care for the tart, it was too rich and heavy. I may love to eat, but sometimes I just like some crisp veggies as a side. (my notes don't reflect what my DP had as an entree.....maybe my food porn photos captured it, I'll have to check)

For dessert, I had the New England Style Milk cake. OMG!!! It was fresh, light (as in airy), and brought back memories of childhood.

For what it's worth, we were on DDP and we have DDE. I have pictures on my other computer. I'll add photos of my meal.

we eat lunch there on every trip but have not eaten there yet since they changed to the new name (only ate there as Yacht Club Galley). We always enjoy it; DH always gets the turkey sandwich which he loves. However, on the new menu, it looks a little different (has apples on it?) and he hopes they can alter it to make it the same way it used to be. The mozz sandwich is awesome, and the side orzo salad is really really good, and a welcome change from fries.

My daughter got this sandwich in May and had them modify it and passed on the apples. It was not a problem. My favorites are the fish and chips and/or crabcake sandwich. THis place is also very popular with cast members since it's quiet for lunch often there are a group in there eating.
