Has anyone cruise on a military rate?

If so what was the rate and what time of year was it?

We have!

Our Eastbound Transatlantic in May 2013 went from $5600 to just under $3700. We were able to switch my sister's and mom's cabins to the military rate as well.

The military rate was released (end Dec/beginning Jan - can't remember exactly) before our PIF date too (Jan 17). It took me a good five minutes to explain to the family why I was running and screaming through the house! :thumbsup2:woohoo::yay:

I should mention I found out about the rate on the DIS Boards - at the top on the main forum page. :cheer2:

We just booked one about a week and a half ago for the 4-night Dream on 17 August. I didn't think they would have any available in summer, ever!! The only reason I even checked, was I ran into a friend who booked a 7 night on the Fantasy in July a week prior with a military rate.

We booked verandah rooms at 700 for the first two people and 550 for the third. There were no category 4 rooms offered and it was the same price for all of the different category verandah rooms regardless of which deck you were on. They did still have connecting rooms as we are a family of 5. I think they 3 day Dreams were selling for around 525 for the first two people.

I'm curious how you were able to secure this? I see no listing for military rates for August and when trying to enter a search for: Bahamas/august2014/and using the code MTO, it doesn't allow you to search...

On the DCL website. Hover over the "Search for a Cruise" tab and click on "Special Offers". There's a link on that page to all the specials that DCL may be offering at any give time.

That rate must have been live for a few hours only...

The two that are listed this moment (7 nighters) are the only two that I have seen in a few weeks.

This is in reference to the pp that booked the Aug Dream sailing.

It was offered for a two week period the weeks of 14 July and 21 July. If you go back and look at the thread with the GTY/Florida/Military rates you can see where it was posted. He lists the total for 2 people and taxes. We paid 700 per person for the first 2 people and a little over 100 for taxes so 1508. Exactly as listed in this thread. It expired this past Monday so they must have sold enough rooms on the August sailing.

I know when my sister booked hers, she was watching the DCL website around 3 months before the cruise as that is what a TA told her to do. Her rate was ok(1500-2000) for a week, but I bumped her up to a balcony for $100 as military rate was for a porthole.

In May, I scoured these boards and DCL website daily. The rates were here first (5A $525/pp for 3 day) and I ran to the phone and booked it for 10 July. The room was awesome-9th deck midship and I really appreciate Disney providing these discounts! Oh, and they DID check DH's ID at the port before cruising (sometimes they haven't at the resorts).

How many rooms can you book with military discount?? Also, what if you have the cruise book early and then a month before military discount is available? Can you still get the military rate ? I have 4 kids and have to get two rooms connecting and do not know if this will be possible with late military discounts

Last year we took advantage of the awsome military rate sailing from Miami. It was a 5 day, Nov 1st -6. It was 8 of us and we paid a total of $2,624.00 (for all 8 of us). It was $263.00 per person. We had two rooms at that discount price. I don't think we will ever see prices that low again. Glad we took advantage of it.

Both the military person and spouse can book a room so if you are both ID card holders then you can book 2 rooms. We were surprised that connecting rooms were still available. The Dream and Fantasy have lots of connecting rooms. Might be harder on the older ships. But when I booked our 2 weeks ago for Aug 17, we had lots of choices for connecting rooms.

The military rates are mostly available AFTER the paid in full date. So you cannot rebook a cruise and get the military rate without cancelling your existing reservation and losing your money depending upon how close (this summer it was after the 45 day mark so you would have lost 50% no savings that way)

So you either book a cruise if you want a guarentee date, or you take your chances and hope cruises aren't selling well and dates will be available 30-45 days out. Also, we can drive as we live in DC. If you have to book.last minute air fare for 6 you might not save much waiting for military rates!!

I have been told repeatedly that it's one cabin per military member--not one per ID card. No one questioned you?

Spouses also have an I'D card and are eligible to book rooms at military rate. So if both military member and spouse are travelling together they can each book a room. Unmarried or widowed service members or spouses or those travelling without their spouse would only have one ID card and be able to book one room

You may book two rooms also if your immediate family (spouse and children) require two rooms. For example, a family of 5 can book two staterooms with a military discount with one military ID. I was told you may not include any non immediate family members (e.g., grandparents, aunts, uncles,...) in either room.

You beat me to it. I was going to post the exact same thing. We were able to book two rooms with the military rate because my mom's room(military spouse) exceeded 4. My dad wasn't on the cruise.Disney told me that the immediate family can include her grand kids. And if the grand kids were over the age of 18, they had to be in college. Therefore, We said that two of our kids (which is her grand kids) lived with her. We didn't need to show any proof that they lived with her or college transcripts because two were over 18. ( Wink,Wink)

This is the first time that I read about kids being in college. I plan to travel with my mom (retired military) and I graduated quite some time ago.

Will I have to pay full price? Isn't the military rate on the room?

Everyone in the room will be under the retired miilitary rate. The special offer code is MTO. Not all cruises have the discount. Place the MTO in the Special Offers box and select a ship, month and ship. Most MTO discounts do not get offered until around 75 days out or LESS.

Check my thread for all the discounts.

Thank you :)
My dad is retired military and my mom is a spouse. At last minute, my dad changed his mind about this cruise but my mom and I are going.

What documents are needed as proof during check in? When I called DCL, the CM was unsure. I assume it's an ID card, but is there anything else?
