Has anyone checked out and back in to the same hotel on the same day?

I was playing around with rates last night and if I spend one day at the hotel under one rate program, check out, check back in, and stay another few days under another promo I will end up saving several hindered dollars over the course of the stay.

What's everyone's experience with this? Would I just go to check in and say hello, I am checking out, and then when complete stand there and say hello, I am checking in?

I have a few times and they simply made me go up to the desk on checkout morning and see if I had to move rooms. Neither time resulted in a move. Process took about 2 minutes maybe. Maybe nowadays with the texting, the walk to the desk wouldn't be necessary.

Yes
You will most likely need to change rooms since they are different rates. You will need to pack all of your things and bring them down with you. Bell Services can store your luggage until your new room is available, which is likely 3 or after.

YMMV - Last fall we were staying at BWI. I had a seperate reservation (same hotel, same room category) for 1 night because I couldn't get an extra day added onto our bounceback reservation. I called the Disney reservations line and had them note that we had a "continuing reservation", hoping this would allow us to stay in the same room.

When we arrived at the hotel, I asked at the front desk if we would have to change rooms and the CM said "no, you are in the same room for your entire stay". I asked if I had to check-out and check back in the next morning and the CM said "no". Early the next morning we got a receipt of the bill for the first night emailed to me, and at then end of the week we got another one on our check-out day.

not necessarily, if you are in the same TYPE room, they can finagle it to not have you move rooms.....just how the same room can be a higher price for a weekend to a weekday....but make sure EVERYBODY knows, tat its noted on both reservations and you tell the person checking you in (or if online checkin, just make sure they have it noted)

This was not my experience at all. I had two reservations, two different rates, SAME room category. When I checked in for the first reservation, I told the front desk CM about the 2nd reservation. She told me to come back to the desk on the morning of our check-out/check-in day to see if we could keep our room. I went down at 7 am on that day to give myself plenty of time to pack IF I needed to change rooms (you have your first room until 11 am so there's zero reason to pack up your stuff prior to finding out if you need to switch). We did not need to switch rooms.

This^^^. As long as you book the same room type, you can have the reservations linked with a request to keep the same room. When you check in for the first reservation, tell the CM you have a continuing reservation and would like to keep the same room if possible. It's not guaranteed you won't have to move, but they will do everything they can to keep you in the same room :).

A lot of our stays have been time share trades into the DVC properties. Sometimes we have traded two separate weeks and sometimes we added on days with CRO. We've always had to do the check-out and back in with the front desk, but we've always been able to stay in the same room if it was the same type of room. I think we just always mentioned it when checking in the first time.

We will be doing this in October at the CR. When I first booked, all that was available was a club level, theme park view room. I wasn't interested in paying that much, but since it was all that was open for a 3 night trip for MNSSHP, I took it. A few weeks ago, a garden wing room opened up for the last two nights of our stay. So I took two nights off the pricey club level room with a view. I had to keep it the first night, though, as nothing else was available.

I assume we will be switching rooms. I don't think Disney is likely to let us have the club level room all 3 nights just because it's convenient. I'd rather switch rooms and save my $800 for another Disney trip. I'll ask if we will need to check out and back in, but unless I'm told otherwise, I'm going to assume we'll need to move rooms.

Yes - in this case your room category is changing and you will be moved to a different room in the new category.

I'm currently at Pop, was originally planning to change to POFQ next week. Decided I loved the refurb room at Pop so much and found a great rate at Pop for my POFQ dates, so have changed my POFQ booking to Pop. Stopped by the Pop front desk earlier today and explained the situation (currently staying here, now have a booking for the same type of room here that continues on from my current stay). The CM checked the reservations and spoke to another CM on the phone and they've sorted it so that I can just stay on in my room - according to the CM I wont even need to do anything on my current check-out day as everything is already on file!
