Has anyone booked Moonlight Magic while on an Interval Exchange?

We are Marriott Vacation Club members in addition to our DVC and we used our Marriott week this summer to trade into Old Key West for this July. Our dates happen to overlap with the Moonlight Magic at Animal Kingdom and we’d love to try and get tickets. We are blue card members and I checked the Moonlight Magic page and it says members staying on an Interval exchange are eligible to try on the on-site registration day. My question is this - we are blue card for our initial contract and we have a resale contract with a different membership number. When I called Member Services to get the Interval exchange added to MDE, the CM mentioned that it might not show on My Dashboard on DVC but would show on MDE and that is exactly what happened. I read today about some people putting in the wrong membership number at registration and getting shut out of Typhoon Lagoon tickets. Should I assume that it would be my blue card membership number that I should enter if I’m fortunate enough to get in? The stay isn’t associated with either membership. What happens when you have a cash on-property stay for Moonlight Magic priority registration? Has anyone ever tried to register when staying on property on an Interval exchange? Did the system recognize it? Thanks!

I haven't seen any posts regarding II exchanges, but I have seen several that had RCI exchanges and they were able to reserve a MM event based on that exchange.

Yes, definitely, because your other membership number isn't eligible due to its being associated with a resale contract.

Think of it this way: It's like you're two different members. You-blue-card are eligible. You-resale-"white"-card are not.
The stay isn’t associated with either membership.

Eligibility for such perks is based upon what status your membership number has.

I'm not sure, though, how an Interval stay may be regarded, particularly if your resale points helped get that. Easy way to find out is to call your Guide. They'll be able to break it down or find out your eligibility yes/no.

I don't think you need ANY booked on-property stay as long as you are trying at the second, the general registration. That's open to eligible Members generally speaking.

If you're talking a regular room for cash stay, I think the stay must be on points to qualify for priority registration.

Again, contact your Guide for the official word.

Nope. Never have tried Interval. All our points go for our DVC stays.

We’ve registered via onsite priority when staying on RCI exchange. As long as your reservation is linked to MDE to show you’re onsite, just enter your blue card member number when trying to book MM. Good luck!

The II exchange was booked via their Marriott ownership, so the fact that they have resale DVC points is irrelevant in this case. All that matters is that they are DVC-Y members with an onsite reservation for the night of MM linked to MDE.

Thanks, CarolynFH.

Wasn't sure but sure glad you happened by to set it all as should be. You're the best! :flower3:

You’re welcome! Having DVC members staying on inbound II exchanges made via ownership of other timeshares is confusing - I wasn’t sure we’d be okay when we had our RCI exchange, but it worked to get us into MM!

I would think the blue card member number would be the one you would want to use... But....

For the DCA one earlier this year, I booked a cash room (with Magic Key discount) at DLH to get the priority booking for the DCA event. On registration day, my blue card member ID would not work to register saying I did not have a reservation for that date even though I got an email inviting me to register for the event via early reservation. I tried my white card membership number and that is the one that worked. I called and was told I was definitely on the list. And I had no problems on the day of the event getting in the park with the tickets (mailed for DCA) and they never even checked ID or membership.

So, take what you will from that.... If blue card does not work, try the white?

Great! Thank you! This is reassuring. It was enough that it was linked to MDE even though it doesn’t show on the DVC dashboard?!

I wonder if there is a way to check through Member Services?! I figured I’d have both ready but I read several reports of people getting booted out of the queue for the most recent registration if the member number they picked doesn’t work. 😬

Yes, only DVC reservations show on the dashboard. And I usually have to link them to MDE manually - I don’t think the two systems talk to each other, or at least they didn’t used to.

We've also been able to do priority registration while staying on an RCI exchange. It was linked to my MDE and I used my DVC Y number.

I wanted to follow up and respond to my own thread in case anyone finds this on a search the future and let everyone know how it turned out! My interval exchange is now linked to my MDE and I was able to use it to make 60+ dining reservations, etc. I received the e-mail yesterday saying that I had a confirmed reservation during the AK Moonlight Magic dates and that I was eligible for early booking today at 11 EDT with the link. The exchange reservation never appeared on my DVC dashboard but they told me it likely wouldn't which makes sense because it isn't a DVC reservation on our points. Because of this I could not see what membership number it was listed under but I assumed it had to be the one with DVC-Y, right?!

I had my multiple browsers ready to go early and the best one had a queue number in the 3000s with the other two in the 7000s. I got through around 10:40 CST and quickly entered in my blue card membership number only to have the system tell me that I didn't have a confirmed reservation under that membership number during the event dates. I double checked that I put the number in correctly and my heart fell. But then I was confused. I mean, they sent me the e-mail saying I was eligible for early booking right?! So, instead of clicking the link in the bottom to try again, I hit the back button and my blue card number was still entered in the boxes. I quickly logged into the DVC site in another window, grabbed my resale membership number and entered that in and sure enough it went through!!! I have NO idea why that is the number with which the Interval reservation is associated. If I had to guess, I'm thinking that it's because our blue card membership number starts with a "6" and our resale membership number starts with a "4" and the system associated the reservation with the first membership number numerically?! In any event, we got in and I got the confirmation about 4 minutes before our date was filled! Eek. I don't know why these registrations have to be so stressful, but they always are.

One other thing that happened and this might just be me, but the screen had me pick which person would be the card member present and there was no way to click on one of our names. The drop down only had numbers and I kept trying enter in the number in our party and getting an error message. Thankfully, my teenager was home and pointed out that the number referred to how our names were listed (I was listed as 1 and hubby was 2) and the place to enter in the number in our party was on the next page. That took me several precious minutes of registration time to figure out after I finally got in the membership number that they wanted. So, be on the lookout for that if you have the mental block that I did on that screen.
