We are leaving for Honolulu this coming Saturday. We have been in May and June before but this is the first time in Sept.
Just curious if its a busy time of year?
thanks

I live on The Big Island and the timing should be good. The kids are in school so it shouldn't be that busy as for tourist, but you will want to avoid the morning and afternoon traffic.
Also on The North Shore, they are filming different t.v. shows like the show called North Shore, so you could go there to visit the area if you are a fan of the show.
I just found out that my uncle had passed away and we may go to Oahu before Saturday, so if I do then I will update you with how things are.

Mommytotwo, sorry to hear about your uncle.

We were thinking of visiting the Turtle bay resort to snorkel, should we avoid the area due to the tv show??

We are all looking forward to vacation. It doesn't really matter if its busy or not. but...its always easier to get an upgrade if the hotel is not so busy. ;) ;)

We're going to Maui the first week in October, I hope the weather and crowds are still good.

Thank you.

You should be ok. There are different sides of the island. If you want to stay away from the t.v. show filming, you could always go to Waikiki, although it is more touristy and the beaches will most likely be more crowded.

We are staying in Waikiki but plan on visiting Waimea Beach, Kailua and Lanikai, and Hanauma Bay. Turtle Bay was a stop while on the North Shore.
We have been 3 times before and have our favorite beaches (Kailua for sure). But thought the Turtle Bay area would be fun for a day.

thanks for the help !!

Hi Kim!

September is a great time to visit.....most of the summer crowds are gone and if you like hot weather you got it.....we are averaging high 80's right now with the most beautiful sunsets the past couple of days.

Best advice while you travel about the Island is to avoid the peak traffic hours in the morning and afternoon.

Turtle Bay is a beautiful resort....haven't snorkeled there lately...usually we snorkel at Hanauma :sunny:

If you have any other questions just ask and have a great vacation in our beautiful State!

Hey dsneygirl!

Anytime is a great time to visit Hawaii! With temperatures in the 80's year round every month is a good month!

After labor day to mid December is typically our slower tourist season since kids are back in school. So you'll get a great combo of less crowds and nice warm weather.

Hope you have a great vacation on Maui. We are going there this weekend for a quick 3 day stay at the Westin Kaanapali....we love Maui...it's our favorite island to visit ( we live on Oahu)

Another Oahu person here! :sunny:

Not much to add, but just wanted to say that Hanauma Bay is closed on Tuesdays. Also, make sure you get there EARLY because the parking lot fills up fast. Sometimes I drive around that way, maybe around 8 or 8:30 a.m., and the lot is full already! I see people trying to find parking on the side of the road and they have to hike quite a bit to get there.

The weather here has been pretty humid. I think the tradewinds are supposed to come back soon (I hope!).

And the traffic...sadly, it's getting pretty bad here at all times of day. And there's lots of construction going on everywhere. Like one of the other posters said, avoid rush hour traffic, especially on the freeways.

I went walking twice near Waikiki last week (a Monday and Wednesday), around 8-9 a.m., and the beach looked pretty open (I've heard of people saying it's hard to get a spot). They were also filming the new "Hawaii" show at Queen's Beach, but it wasn't a problem at all.

I don't think you'll have any problems going to the north shore, but I think I'd try to do it on a weekday since there may be a lot of locals going up there on the weekends. Turtle Bay area isn't so bad, but I think things can get a little backed up between Waimea Bay and Haleiwa area.

Let me know if you'd like any weather updates (or whatever), before you leave!

Luvtigger - thanks for the help. I did notice the really high humidity. wasn't sure if that was normal. We don't mind 90's or less. We live in Phoenix. thats a cool front for us. ;)

Thanks for reminding me when Hanauma Bay closes. We knew it got really packed too. Do you know how early they open? We will go early.

Being that you are 3 hours early we have a hard time adjusting and wake up at 5am and go to sleep at 8pm. :p so getting up early is NOT a problem. lol.

So excited to be coming to the Aloha state. I love it there.

Here's a website for Hanauma Bay Info:http://www.aloha.com/~lifeguards/hanauma.html

About half way down there is a link that says "Click here for more information about this program," and that link has good information. It says they open at 6 a.m. Also, I forgot that there's a charge now, $5 per person. There's supposed to be some kind of visitor's center, and I think there is a mandatory tour or video or something that they make visitors watch in an effort to preserve the reef.

Please let me know if I can help with other info. Have a wonderful trip!
