Another Oahu person here!
Not much to add, but just wanted to say that Hanauma Bay is closed on Tuesdays. Also, make sure you get there EARLY because the parking lot fills up fast. Sometimes I drive around that way, maybe around 8 or 8:30 a.m., and the lot is full already! I see people trying to find parking on the side of the road and they have to hike quite a bit to get there.
The weather here has been pretty humid. I think the tradewinds are supposed to come back soon (I hope!).
And the traffic...sadly, it's getting pretty bad here at all times of day. And there's lots of construction going on everywhere. Like one of the other posters said, avoid rush hour traffic, especially on the freeways.
I went walking twice near Waikiki last week (a Monday and Wednesday), around 8-9 a.m., and the beach looked pretty open (I've heard of people saying it's hard to get a spot). They were also filming the new "Hawaii" show at Queen's Beach, but it wasn't a problem at all.
I don't think you'll have any problems going to the north shore, but I think I'd try to do it on a weekday since there may be a lot of locals going up there on the weekends. Turtle Bay area isn't so bad, but I think things can get a little backed up between Waimea Bay and Haleiwa area.
Let me know if you'd like any weather updates (or whatever), before you leave!
