Has Anyone Been to Great Wolf Lodge in Pocono Mountains, PA?

I'm looking for a quick getaway to get rid of some winter blues and heard about Great Wolf Lodge. I have two kids ages 4 and 20 months. Would Great Wolf Lodge be a good choice for us? Do you think it's worth the price? Does anyone know where I can find any discounts? Thanks so much for your help!

I think it's geared toward slightly older kids. Lots of climbing water splashing kind of things. I know there was a small little kids area- but nothing fantastic like the rest of the rides.

Have you checked out Woodlock Pines? It's got an indoor pool and other "activities". They have characters at some dinners. We enjoyed our stay there.

Happy planning. (oh and the PA great wolf lodge had a bed bug issue about 2 years ago- I am sure they took care of it but after that we stopped going just couldn't get past the thought of that)

:scared1: We were thinking of going there over President's day weekend but I think we'll go with door #2 instead.

OP, I have never been but in doing research it seems to me like there is more for older kids than little ones like yours.

I think I'm going to call and ask about that. I'm sure if the problem was two years ago it's probably been taken care of...

Yikes not to freak anyone out- ok I guess this will freak some people out but seems they're baaaaack....

Although it is the internet and I don't know for a fact they are back. I do know about the 2 year ago incident as my son was there with friends and they had "enclosed" a portion of the hotel for extermination. :scared1:

I have never been. I have friends that love this great wolf. I would love to go someday.

we went with our homeschool group the first week of december and had a blast!! We did this last year too.

the rooms were spotless, the staff were so friendly!

we didn't want to come home! no sign of bed bugs. Remember, they can show up in absolutely ANY hotel, at ANY time.

What I did to be extra protective was pack in rubbermaid type clear plastic boxes w/ the snapping lids. It was honestly very easy. I had also researched a bit, and apparently bed bugs like to hid in the battery compartments of any electronics (it's warm in there). So I left everything home except my cell phone and camera, and they were always in a plastic tub when I wasn't using them. (so no laptops sitting around the room, I-touches, ds's, etc). Not that we need any entertainment while there anyway.

our group plans on going every year (it's only an hour from us). I'd like to go back w/ my husband and kids alone once again this winter for a couple of days.

i think your age kids will have a blast. they have a lot for the little ones. don't forget about the craft room you can go to anytime and make a craft w/ your child for a small fee. and wearing pj's to the lobby at night for the 'show'... the ice cream/candy/fudge store, starbucks, pizza hut, the restaurant, the arcade, the build-a-car race track, the gift shop, the spa, and the little girls spa... ahhhh, we love it there!

give it a try - I don't think you'll be disappointed. Just remember to really shower off after the water park every time - the chlorine content is really high (there are NO living germs in that water park!!), so kids were getting rashes if they weren't showering off each night.

enjoy if you go.

We're going again tomorrow - the kids love it. Look at the height restrictions for the big waterslides for your 4 year old. There is a pretty nice little kid area, with 3 slides for anyone, a lazy river, and a climby thing for all ages. There is the nightly "show" in the lobby. The rooms are very large, even the smallest, with a mini-fridge and microwave. Sign up for emails - they have discounts every month or so.

Thanks everybody!! I have serious cabin fever right now because it's so cold out. I am definitely a warm weather person!! I'm sure we'll be visiting something nearby sometime soon. I'm just waiting for a good deal :-). There's also the Great Escape Lodge near Lake George, NY. I haven't been there myself but have heard it's nice. It's farther from me than Great Wolf in the Poconos and Coco Key in Waterbury.

Great Wolf Lodge just announced on Facebook the dates for their 48 hour sale for each of their locations. Does anyone know how good the sale is going to be? Right now a standard room for one night is $259 on a weeknight and $539 on a weekend. What kind of discount does the 48 hour sale usually give on those prices?

Just wanted to add... I think $539 a night is absolutely ridiculous. This is for a STANDARD ROOM. I have never even paid close to that in WDW!!

I agree.. the prices are nuts. We are close by but I wont pay those prices. Plus you have to pay extra (I believe its $40) for the 5th person and more in the room.

My older girl scout troop wants to go, they were given a cookie sale amount they have to reach but I dont think it will happen.

I was also going to suggest woodloch. Eversave had a great deal that was 249 for 2 nights for a weekend stay but I saw it sold out. They still have $199 if you do midweek

If your kids like water parks, they will love it. It is VERY pricey though, as you already saw for the room rates. The food to eat there is astronomical (and very mediocre at best).

How about Coco Key in Waterbury CT?

I haven't been there personally, but know several people who have. They say it's great. It's maybe an hour 15 minutes from the CT/NY border.

Thanks for mentionin this. My dd wanted to do a sleepover with a few friends at a hotel and use the pool for her birthday but I looked into this since we aren't too far. I booked a couple of rooms and since its a Friday they include 2 days of waterpark passes and its around the same price as just a room at a regular hotel. Since we are doing this we definitely wont do GWL for Presidents Day, bedbugs or not

OP I don't know where in NY you are but there is a Cocokey in Mt. Laurel New Jersey.
