Whispering Canyon or O'Hanna's restaurants? We had dinner at WC on Nov.3rd at approx. 6:30pm and dinner at O'H at 6pm on Nov 4th.
There we 9 of us that ate at WC and 8 at O'H. Five of us became ill during the early morning hours(Nov 6th) after arriving home on Nov. 5th.We all have the same symtoms, V & D. We did not travel on the same flights. These are the only places we ate together within the 24-72 hour time period for food poisoning (it's what I think it is) to show up. If anyone became ill after eating at these restaurants during the same time period I would appreciate hearing your story.
Thank You

I've eaten at both places and never had a problem. I've overeaten at O'Hana on more than one occasion and made myself feel awful but never gotten sick.

I've eaten at both Whispering Canyon (3 times) and Ohana and never been sick. I don't think food poisoning would take that long to become symptomatic. Sounds more like a virus to me.

Food poisoning would show up within 6 hours of eating. Sounds like you picked up a nasty bug

I have had 2 documented cases of food poisoning; both occurred with in 4-8 hours after eating the problem food item. I can't imagine getting something 2 days later would be food poisoning.

I'm not sure where your getting your infomation (time period)
Our illness began approx 30-32 hrs after the dinner, all within a few hours of each other. Must be a smart virus! And to all that replied that they've eaten their before without any problems the same goes for me I've eaten at both these restaurants many times before without any problems. In fact we have been going the DW every year (twice a year a few times) since Nov. 1982 without any problems

"Food poisoning is a common, usually mild, but sometimes deadly illness. Typical symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping, and diarrhea that occur suddenly (within 48 hours) after consuming a contaminated food or drink. Depending on the contaminant, fever and chills, bloody stools, dehydration, and nervous system damage may follow. These symptoms may affect one person or a group of people who ate the same thing (called an outbreak)."

I've heard there seems to be a nasty up all night bug going around down there. Several people have mentioned being sick in TR. Definately sounds like a nasty bug to me. Hope it doesn't last too long for you:goodvibes

I can say that I did become violenty ill after eating at San Angel Inn about 5 years ago. It used to be one of my favorites, but something about getting sick after eating somewhere seems to mess with your mind. ;) I became very ill (V&D) within 3 or 4 hours of eating and nearly missed our Illuminations cruse because of it. In fact, our cruise driver felt so bad seeing how sick I was, that he knocked off 50% of the cost. Very awesome! :thumbsup2

I think you had food poisoning. Too many people at the same time. I have had stomach viruses over the years go through my family, but it is more like a domino effect first the kids then my husband a couple of days later me, nit everyone at the same time. Yours all happened at the same time when you all ate at the same place.

My wife and I both became ill almost exactly 7 hours after our meal at tutto italia (epcot italy) on Oct 21. the only thing we shared all day was the appetizer (calamari) and her filet of sole (I had a small piece). It was a near 911 call for her as she became violently ill and dehydrated. I was sick for about 5 hours, she was vomiting for nearly 12. This was definetly not a case of the flu, or a stomach bug. I figured we were served at 6:30pm and we were both vomiting at 1:30am.

Not only did this ruin our 19th wedding anniversary dinner/3 day (no kids) trip it also cost me nearly $300 to change our return flights on the Oct 22nd because we were too sick to leave the room. At first the manager told us we had a "food alergy" but later backed off that claim. In the end they did reimburse us the total cost of the meal

Upon returning home, and discussing the ordeal with a neighbor who owns a restrurant herself, we learned she had customers who had the same experiance at tutto italia in Sept. Something is going on there.

We are moving this to the Community Board. This is becoming more of a general discussion on food poisoning and stomach viruses in Disney versus a discussion of Disney Restaurants.

No never got sick from eating any where at WDW. :thumbsup2

Since everyone developed symptoms at the same time, that makes me think you got sick from something else. In most cases where people I know have gotten food poisoning, different members of the family developed the illness at different rates.

I'm not a doctor though, so I can't tell you for sure.

With the symptoms and the time frame it could be either food poisoning or Norwalk Virus. We were on the Dis Cruise when the Norwalk outbreak occured a few years back and hit fast and hard. And yes, whole families came down with it within a few hours of each other. And I'd always heard that food poisoning could occur 3 - 36 hours after eating. The only way to know for sure is to be tested to see what the "bug" was.

I highly doubt you'd get food poisoning from BOTH places. If that's the case then Disney has work to do. I would bet that someone picked up a stomach bug and passed it amongst your party- gasteroenteritis is one of the most contagious bugs and can be passed even when symptoms are gone or not showing.

Actually, not to be Miss Smartypants or anything, but it can take up to one week oe longer for symptoms of food poisoning to occur. So, if you were at WDW for a week, any place you all had eaten could be suspect. It depends specifically on what particular organism is involved.

My husband, for example, developed severe bloody diarrhea which was positive for Shigatoxin. We had to give the locations and times of where we ate, and at what stores we purchased groceries. I am a family physician, and I narrowed it down to possibly a salad he had eaten at a camp picnic at my son's summer camp, or to a meal he had eaten at a particular Greek Restaurant. But, that particular week, we had taken a day trip to Cincinnati, and both eaten at the Cincinnati zoo and at a Skyline chili in Ohio. Of the two of us, I was the only one who had touched animals--I fed some goats and the lorikeets. So, his diarrhea was actually an interstate type of investigation. Most interestingly, there had been an outbreak of Shigatoxigenic E. coli in Columbus, Ohio about that time which was severe enough to be reported in the paper. We had visited Columbus July 4th weekend, and eaten at an outdoor barbecue, but, nobody else we were with became ill (including myself and our son) or our friends who we were visiting. But, anything is a possibility.

What particular symptoms you have and the time frame of symptoms depend on what specific organism is responsible. S. aureus, for example, will cause symptoms within 8-12 hours, and is frequently caused by rice containing items. E. coli food poisoning, like my husband had, can be caused by improperly cooked ground beef (which we didn't have--we had no ground beef at all in that time span) or raw vegetables. Campylobacter or Salmonella usually comes from dairy or improperly prepared poultry. Food poisoning is so interesting.

well, colored me informed! I had no idea food poisoning could take so long to show. I had food poisoning once and was sick fairly soon after eating the offending food. Thanks for the info.

When my parents got food poisoning after eating at McAlister's Deli, they were throwing up two hours later. My mother was ill for two days after.

I think you're out of the standard time frame for food poisoning. I think you picked up a virus and it spread. Who's the Typhoid Mary?

Years ago DH and I got sick on pizza that we ordered from room service at the Contemporary. About 6 hours later we wished we were at a hospital. To this day, we thank God we didn't give any to our then 18 month old. I can't imagine what it would have done to him. I ended up having to get a shot to stop the vomiting.  :scared1:
