As I just learned, you can add a minimum of 25 points at another resort.

Personally, I can't see any reason to do this, but, if you have done it and found that it works well, please explain.

IMHO, it just seems like too few points. I know that you can combine the 25 with your other points, but that's only at the 7 month mark.

It doesn't seem worthwhile, but I may be missing something.

I tend to agree with you. We've done a couple of 25 point add-ons at our home resort (BWV) and have NOT wished to split our points between resorts. However, the issue comes up when your home resort is sold out AND you wish to increase your point total.
You must then "add-on" via a different resort unless you look into a resale; I understand that DVC also keeps a waiting list for possible add-on points at closed resorts as well; they end up accumulating them via right of first refusal from resale transactions.

Good Luck,

While all of my add-ons have been at my home resort, I can see adding on the minimum at another resort. Say you find that you really need 25 additional points every year. If your home resort is usually not fully booked during the time you normally travel, you should be able to book at the 7 month window.

Originally, the minimum for a non-home add-on was 50 points. Several years ago, DVC lowered that to 25 at any resort.

While 25 would certainly NOT provide much reservation opportunity 11 months ahead, with banking and borrowing, even the minimum would offer a doable number of points for some reservations.

I suspect that DVC felt some members would like the ability to add on at non-home resorts in smaller (more affordable) increments and thus made the 25 point option available.

Reg,
We did an add-on at BWV. It was for 64 points which equals a BWV preferred studio for a Friday and Saturday during magic season. If we were to add 28 points at BCV(assuming the points remain the same as BWV) then we could add a Sunday and Monday to the same trip. Sure, we'd change resorts....across the lake.....no big deal. We'd still have our OKW points to use then as well. Of course, we could do better point wise going in a lower season and mid-week.
My wife and I were just down to OKW for 3 nights. I can't tell you how much fun we had. After our son graduates high school, I think we'd like to take more short trips instead of a long one. This is the reason I could see us adding on a small amount of points......spruce

25 points (actually 30) banked and borrowed can be a 75 - 90 point booking advantage for one year out of three, giving you a few days in a studio during a holiday in combination with another resort.

We did it but that was so that we could use points for a cruise. I figured why pay for the cruise when I could put that money towards something that would continue to benefit us for that next 40 years.

Yes it is worth it. We have added on about every year since we bought in 1991. Those little and some larger ones do add up. I will admit after each add on I say now we have enough points. But hey, I have a Disney problem and DVC is a great value for us.

We did three add-ons of 30, 40 and 100 points. We joined at BWV and just completed the last add-on at VWL.

We started with 230 (OKW) in 99, then added 70 more there in 2000 before they sold out. Now we added 50 at VB to get us at our current total(350). I like the idea of 25 pt minimum. It gives the DVC members the affordabilty to add on at a reasonable price. And in real terms, you still have the luxury of using "all of your points" at the 7 month window, no matter which resort is your home resort, or the Disney Cruise Line.:D
