Just checking since I have not heard a thing back from Disney in the past week. I'm not sure what else to do to get those 1/2 price tickets. Any suggestions??

See the long post we have going under Chance military discounts. I received a NO this morning and I responded with a blasting e-mail asking for a Supervisor and asking them why in the world some people would get it and some would not. Our spouses were away defending our country and could not make it before 04/30/02. I called DW and was also told by a CSR that it was being reviewed on a case by case basis. How is this fair. I will keep you posted because now it is just the point and I won't let it drop. My husband in a Marine and deployed and just got back. I think he would have rather been at DW before 04/30/02 then away in hell.

Good luck but don't count on it. We were stationed in Europe during the Gulf War and DH was in Desert Storm. We never got any of the perks that stateside military people were getting(we read and heard about lots!). I think WDW did something after the Gulf War but it was not extended to those who were not here. It was nice of them to offer it to those that could benefit though. DH is a reservist now:D , so this one did not even apply to him. We do enjoy the overflow rates and ticket discounts from SOG.

Sadness turns to anger as I think about how many "military families" were actually able to take advantage of Disney's generous offer in the 7 1/2 months following 9/11. I mean, isn't this the period of time when we were all actually the BUSIEST??????????? Most active duty families are getting their first vacations IN THE LAST HALF YEAR RIGHT NOW. What don't they get about that??????????

The people who did get to take advantage of this certainly weren't the ones off protecting our country, were they? At least not for the most part!

No, those who were serving could not benefit, but it was just a gesture and show of support on WDW's behalf. Not anything they owed anyone. Perhaps they will offer something again at the conclusion of the war, :) or at another point.:D

Gee Lisalu, my husband and I are both active-duty military and we got to take advantage of this...I guess we're pretty much losers in your eyes since we weren't off protecting the country during this time, huh?

Like Wonderlandmom said, Disney didn't owe anyone anything; it was simply a gesture on their part. Family members could have gone without the active-duty member...we met up with quite a few families who did. Yes, it wasn't the same family vacation without their active-duty spouse with them, but they managed.

lisalu.....whoa, whoa, whoa..........

My sister in law is in the Navy on the USS Carl Vincent. She was deployed in August of 2001 for a tour of duty over there. She was over there on Sept. 11th. Her ship saw a lot of action. It came back to the states in Jan. and she took advantage of the offer in April. It was GREAT of Disney to do that for her.

IMO.....even if she never had seen any action.......she would have been just as entitled. It's probably the courage and "willingness to defend " of these people that Disney is commending. If certain people were unable to take advantage during the dates (and can prove this), then I do feel that they should reap the benefits now.

Rather than being upset about what you are not going to get and what others before you got, I would be darn grateful and happy that my husband made it home alive.
To demean others in the military because they got to go and were lucky enough not to be deployed is not very nice.
Why not think of others who will not be able to go as an entire family, EVER?
The fact that Disney did this at all is great, you know, they did not have to.

I think we need to get back on track with this thread. No further comments concerning who did and didn't serve in the current conflict or who is or isn't deserving of recognition from Disney.

Lisalu sure didn't deserve that.

I do think the promotion was more about the appearance of a salute during a time of seriously low park attendance than about putting together a promotion that was available to a large percentage of military, police, and firefighters. As an added perk for Disney other patrons might feel more secure with military, police, and firefighters flocking there. They could've offered the freebie to only the qualifying individuals and let the dependants pay regular rates thus avoiding being stampeeded by freebies during peek times. This would've been a more usable offer for many families who weren't allowed leave by Apr. 30, and Disney could've afforded to keep this one around longer and built a lot of goodwill. Instead they practically gave the passes and hotel stays away to a smaller percentage. Scale back and include more people is my thought.

Am I saying Disney owed the reduced rate to anyone? Nope. They just could've handled it better and spread it out a bit.
