My DD11's teacher has me trying to locate a Disney Video called One More Mountain which is supposedly about the Donner Party and their travels west. I can't find that such a movie even exists, let alone find someone who has it. I tried the library, the video stores, even online places like amazon. Anybody ever heard of it?

Thanks!

Wow! That was soo fast! Thanks! Can you buy a copy of it somehow? I didn't see a link to buy it. I can't believe how quick you found that after I did all kinds of searches.

Thanks!

I got this info from the following link:
http://www.utahcrossroads.org/DonnerParty/FAQ.htm

Are there any Donner Party movies?

No feature films, but there have been two made-for-television movies. The first one, Donner Pass: The Road to Survival, aired in 1978 and has also been released on video. It's not very good as either history or entertainment, but if you'd like a copy, you can often find one being auctioned at eBay.

The second movie, One More Mountain, aired in March 1994 on the Hallmark Hall of Fame, with Meredith Baxter starring as Margret Reed. It's a cut above the previous one, but leaves a lot to be desired. Formerly you could find it only in the possession of people who taped it off the air and kept a copy, but Disney finally released it on video in the spring of 2000. It was marketed to educators at a whopping $99, but no longer appears on the Disney website. You may be able to purchase it from another vendor.

Thanks! You guys are fabulous(and quick). I've forwarded both those pages to her teacher and she can decide from there. I don't image she'll spend $99 for it though. Too bad none of the video stores around here or the library have it.

Thanks again!

On a related note, Ric Burns put out a great documentary for PBS called "The Donner Party" (for sale on www.amazon.com). I would highly recommend it. You may want to suggest it to your daughter's teacher.

Thanks Doug123. We've actually already requested this one from the library. She wanted the other one too as she thought it might hold their interest better. I guess you're familiar with this stuff. I'm embarrassed to say that until yesterday, I had never even heard of the Donner Party:o

It is one of those "great American stories." Watch the documentary yourself. I'll hold your attention - along with your daughters.
