I was just watching Bobby Flay on the cooking channel and he was in the Pacific NorthWest cooking Geoduck.

I have to admit, I've been to the Pacific Northwest, but never ate a Geoduck.

Bobby Flay was going crazy over them.
MMMmmm, Yum Yumm, he said, I hope I can get Geoducks when I get back home.

Apparently, Geoducks only are found in the Pacific Northwest.

A Geoduck is a long-living Big Clam type thing.

Want to see a picture? It is kind of, well suprising to look at.
You can use you back key now, if you want.

nope....and I may never feel the same way about fried clams again....lol...

I don't like clams....but DH loves them.

Kinda strange looking aren't they? ;)

I live in the Pacific Northwest.

This topic came up a few months ago after that same program:eek:  Nice picture:eek: I forgot how Geoduck was pronounced:confused:

That is gross, reminds me of a, ahh forget it. Oh I was thinking an elephant trunk, get your mind out of the gutter. That is gross looking and I would never even try it cooked:D

Ha! I LOVE this thing. I didn't even know it's called Geoduck. In Chinese, we call it 'elephant clam'. I ate it raw or sautee, or flashed fried / flashed boiled, *very* thinly sliced.

It is heavenly. I know, it looks gross, and I wouldn't eat it it at first. But it tastes sooooo sweet, and not chewy. If you dip it in boiled water for 3 seconds, it tastes so crispy and crunchy. Yummy. Once you have it, you won't go crazy anymore over conch or clam, or fried calamari.

I am so wierd, ain't I?

yes, i've had it before and it is GOOD, eventhough it looks....um...gross. :o :p

I was flipping channels and heard some of that show today. They were talking about how one could multiply into thousands during its lifetime. Thank goodness I hadn't seen this picture! Sounds like horror flick. ;)

Bumble Bee Betz!

SSB may not be able to sleep tonight...

Slugs on steriods... ack!!!!!

I saw that show today and was totally grossed out.

It's one of those things that you NEVER want to see how it started, it's probably very tasty as an end product but you just never want to see it in its natural state. :p

Ha! I love geoduck stories! I live in the Pacific northwest. I've never eaten one, but DH says they used to use them as bait in his grandfather's crab pots.

Before the DIS, I used to post on RADP and when I was hanging out in their chatroom, I used to slap people around with geoducks instead of trout (IRC thing). I made it my mission to educate the world about geoducks. :D

I want to personally thanks everyone for being mature in their comments about the Geoduck photo. .

Are you suppossed to eat that thing raw or cooked  ?

I love seafood, and I'd would probably try even that. I've tried everything from lobster (delicious) to jellyfish (<I>interesting</I> taste).

Think of it this way...... In some countries I have visited, people would not even get CLOSE to a hot dog.

Seriously, if you have a chance to try something exotic, you should. You won't know what you're missing.

:)
