Has anybody booked last minute...

Has anybody booked last minute using travelocity? They have the next 2 Magic cruises available at $599 for a cat. 11! There appears to be about 6 cat. 11 rooms available on deck 5..... Just wondering if this might be a strategy to try for our next cruise....keep an eye out for these last minute rooms and just go! Anyone with experience out there done this?

Unless you live close enough to drive, the airfare will cost more than you will be saving. If you live in Florida, DCL has periodic Florida resident specials which are your best bet.

We did once book at the last minute, 21 days out, using DCL air since it was way cheaper that way. DCL put us on connecting flights with Delta instead of the usual direct American ones. Needless to say, booking way out with Dreams Unlimited is the best way, you get Early Booking savings, Dreams rebate, stateroom credit if you do it during one of those promotions, and Dreams keeps checking for you if the rate drops and you are eligible, they make the change to your ressie.

We've never done it through Travelocity, but last year we did book our cruise through Disney a couple of weeks before we left. While I'm sure we didn't get the best deal in the world (limited choices in cabins, dinner seatings), we didn't feel like our price was unreasonable. In fact, we were able to get great rates on airfare. We're kinda fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants people and not really planners, so it's fine for us. It was kind of nice being blissfully ignorant about all the details (since then I've found these boards and now I'm obsessing about details!). I can be packed and on a boat in a matter of days if I have to, I'll sleep in the storage closet as long as they take me to Castaway Cay.
