Hey, guys.

We're leaving on Saturday for a week or so in Wildwood, NJ. We're staying at the Surf 16 in North Wildwood because we're bringing our dog.

We go to WW every year for at least a long weekend so while we're very familiar with the resort, I'd like to hear about anything that's new this year, as well as learn about anything that's changed. (Restaurants, attractions, rides, etc.)

Also, a few years ago, someone here on the DIS posted about a mini-market in North Wildwood that made the best cheesesteaks. If you know where I'm talking about, please post the name of the market.

TIA!

I haven't been, but we're headed to Cape May over 9/11. If you make any really good finds, make sure to report back on the boards, so I can visit! Have fun!

IMHO, the best cheesesteaks in Wildwood are Fat Daddy's. I am not sure if they are still in business though.

Also A&P has good steaks and they are in N. Wildwood. I have been craving Mac's Pizza from the boardwalk..I miss NJ a little this timeof year....Curley Fries, Funnel Cake, Cotton Candy, and Greasy PIZZA!!

The mini market that you are probably talking about is Russo's.
They are located at 9th and Ocean in North Wildwood.

We were there in July, the most drastic changes that we saw were that most of the motels were gone and the condos are going up like crazy all over town, so most of the views are gone.

Our favorite pizza spot is Sam's at 26th and the Boardwalk.

A friend of ours has a business on the boardwalk and she recommends Angelo's for pizza, it is a little off the main boardwalk near where the Dracula's castle that burnt down was located.

Of course, Douglas' fudge another must have.

wasn't Dracula's castle in Brigintine? I thought that was where I went a few times as a child.

There were two castles.

There was The Brigantine Castle which had a Dracula theme.

On the Boardwalk in WW there was Dracula's Castle which was a walk through attraction AND don't forget there was underneath the castle, Dracula's Dungeon which was a boat ride.

Alot of fun and as a kid pretty scary. Dracula's castle/dungeon had great theming. Even the shops near it were part of the castle. That area was very Disneyesque.

I remember walking down the boardwalk and the castle would be in the distance and you could hear screaming and that great organ music that warned you of what was ahead. By the time you actually got there you were already half frightened out of your skin. The shore needs a great haunted house. The only thing left is Dante's Inferno.

Two other great scary rides on the boardwalk: Dr. Blood's House of Horror and the Hell Hole.

The AL&P (not A&P) have awesome cheesesteaks. I think that's on New Jersey Ave between 12-16th streets. I'm almost positive that's the market they're talking about.

Hey, Janice...just got back from Cape May...we didn't go to Wildwood though because my oldest niece said last year she didn't feel "safe" on the boardwalk at night...that it had gotten kind of seedy. I was so surprised!

That's the thing about Florida, there is no good pizza! Also, they've never heard of Zeppoles down here!

I miss the Jersey Shore sometimes but love WDW and everything else so much more!

We took my MIL to the WW boards for the very first time. Her frame of reference was Ocean City. She was a little shocked. I've been going to WW since I was months old and the boards have always been a little seedy. To me unique and charming.

I just got back from a week in Sea Isle and we ventured up to the OC boardwalk. From what I could see, it was just as seedy as I remember WW being! I saw a young girl, probably around 13 in a skin tight black t-shirt that said "F...U" on it. She was drapped all over what I guess was her boyfriend and they were playing some serious tonsil hockey with each other.

DH and I grew up at the jersey shore. I worked a "wheel" on Morey's Pier for two years during high school. We haven't been to the boardwalk in years, because I also felt it had gotten very seedy. My mom took the kids up a few weekends ago and she said that it has changed and they had a great time. We are probably going to go visit this weekend and are going to check it out Saturday night.

As for the market, it's a tough call if it was A&LP or Russo's. I would guess A&LP. They are located on 14th St. I went to high school right next door at Wildwood Catholic and spent my entire senior year there because we were allowed to leave school for lunch. What a great memory~

If you want burgers, you should try Russo's. They are the best! But call ahead and order. The line usually goes out the door to order there!

Have a great time~

If you want something to do you can go out on a speedboat to see the dolphins. The speedboat is called the Silver Bullet and is fun. It's located at Rio Grande & Susquehanna Aves.

I'll second the motion for the Silver Bullet! :D

We haven't been to Wildwood in 2 years but did visit Ocean City at New Years.

Yes I agree with you on that too....The reason Pizza and Steaks arent the same here is because of the water. Whatever they put in the water up there is what makes it taste OH SO good. I know whenever we return to NJ, we fly into Philly, and make our first stop Geno's Steak in the city. I love them. They are the best.

One thing though...I have found that the Gasparilla Grill in Grand Floridian makes a REALLY good cheesesteak. One of the BEST on property. My DH is VERY picky about his steaks too...

Janice, we'll be in Ocean City next week...I'm just praying for good weather. We love the OC boardwalk, the pizza, popcorn, homemade chocolates, etc.

I was on OC's boardwalk this year and thought the SAME THING. Not to mention the bikini-ed young girl swaying to and fro perched high on a SWING outside the TATTOO PARLOR. She was wearing devil horns and angel wings. Really bizarre.

But it's all worth it just to get some George's macaroons, the best macaroons on the planet!

Hey Janice, have a BLAST!!!! How nice that you can take your dog on vacation! Boy, I wish I could do that!!! :teeth:

Tell me about the "good weather" part, Hillbeans! We've been cursed with foul weather too often--we were there for Hurricane Floyd. But we keep going back, so we must like it, right? :teeth:

Disshop, this hotel is an awesome place to go on vacation with your dog. It's dedicated to the dog crowd; everyone staying there has at least one dog with them.

The rooms all have tiled floors and throw rugs, as well as throw covers on the coaches. The owners say everything in the rooms can be stripped and cleaned in case of doggie accidents.

My Maxi-dog had the time of his life there last summer. A female husky pushed his chest with her paw, and I thought he would pass out from excitement! He loves the lady dogs, my Maxi. :)

I was down there 2 weeks ago just and I also noticed that alot of townhouses/condo units. ALso during the week the crowd on the boardwalk was great it was on the weekend was when more seedy, very rude obnoxious people started showing up. If you are into Go-Carts the ones on the boardwalk are not included with the wristbands all day pass.

ALso they were selling Fried Oreos and Twinkies
did not try them but if anyone did how was it.
