Has Anthony Bourdain been somewhat vindicated?

Okay, here it is, here is a clip:

Paula Deen.... "And it’s for entertainment. And people have to be responsible. Like I told Oprah a few years ago, honey, I’m your cook, not your doctor. You are going to have to be responsible for yourself."
Deen, who told TODAY.com last year that she couldn’t do without butter or a deep-fryer, was called out by fellow food personality Anthony Bourdain in a TV Guide article for being “the worst, most dangerous person to America," who "revels in her unholy connections with evil corporations" and is "proud of the fact that her food is f---ing bad for you."

Sorry folks, but I am all with Paula on this one!!!!
As for Bourdain.... Anybody who would speak like that, and utter these negative profanities against somebody else, they get absolutely NO respect for me. NONE.... none whatsoever.

PS: If Paula drank all that supersweet tea, the way she mentioned... and has since given up... It is very simple... It is that ongoing, daily, onslaught of pure processed sugar that is going to wreck ones pancreas and jeopardize one's health.

Not some wonderful, delicious, southern, comfort food from time to time.

People who look at the obesity epidemic over the latest quarter century need to look no further than the constant soda and drinks that we try to convince ourselves are appropriate hydration for our bodies.

The export of our american custom of sweet soda and sweet drinks, (now produced with billions and billions of gallons of processed High Fructose Corn Syrup, thanks to the huge efforts and lobbying of major American agricultural corporations) has now caused epidemics of obesity in nations across the globe, which, very simply, do not eat fattening American southern comfort food like Paula Deen's.

And, I agree, a chef is a chef, NOT a doctor....
I, for one, am glad that all chefs out there are NOT Dr.Oz.....
I do love Jamie Oliver's revolution...
There is a place of each of these!!!!
There is NO place for the offensive negative attacks and language displayed by Bourdain.

If Paula is smart, she will not even stoop to his level and acknowledge Bourdain.

Heck, let's just start complaining and ragging on EVERY single chef out there...
Good Lord.

Her statement makes me wonder if she KNOWS what moderation is. Clearly she wasn't drinking Sweet Tea in moderation and that is as classic southern as it gets. Why would I believe she is consuming other bad for you garbage in moderation? You don't wind up overweight and with diabetes with moderation...generally speaking.

He is such a jerk.

People in glass houses, Anthony...people in glass houses.

Bourdainclub%20deuce.jpg

and as far as his distaste with Paula selling herself out to corporate America.... again, glass houses.

anthony-bourdain-chase.jpg

The use of the Chase card was dictated by the cable network. He hated having to do that. Luckily it was a short lived promo. Sam Brown had to do the same schtick. I guess he could have quit his show...

Could be true, Jennesis.

But, nevertheless, I am completely on HER side.

I would completely ignore Bourdain's negative and offensive and inappropriate behavior and remarks.

It is nobody else's place to sit and dissect what her idea of moderation might be.

She shares a love of delicious food, and the foods of her upbringing and culture.
She is a Southern Cook. She is not, and has never portrayed herself as, somebody who is a doctor and who knows what might or might not be 'healthy'.

It isn't like she is on some high horse telling people eat this every day, it is just SO healthy.

There is NO room for judgment here.
Bourdain's behavior and comments and judgements are totally uncalled for and inappropriate. 100% No question.

I would have more sympathy for Anthony Bourdain if he didn't talk smack about Rachel Ray. I think he has a thing for women in the kitchen.

From....NOBODY ASKED ME, BUT.....by Anthony Bourdain

....and her food a True Buffet of Horrors....

Would not "flavor and style" be an end product of ingredients?

Not necessarily. I love ham and I love root beer but a ham cooked in root beer is a horror. Same goes for Ambrosia, tuna casserole, skillet fried apple pie, Twinkie pie ... I could list 100 of her recipes.

But he did it.

Yeah, and I'm sure that AB's liver is perfectly healthy. The guy drinks constantly, can't imagine that being healthy. I don't see PD harping on him about it. I guess that is because she has a bit more class then he does.

He tends to open his mouth and just let words fall out without thinking them through. He can be crass and offensive.

I think his issue with PD and Rachel Ray is that they are not properly trained chefs, so he looks down his nose at them. Apparently if you weren't professionally trained and worked in 5 star restaurants, then you should not be allowed to have a show.

Paula Deen can go on tv and say "I'm not a doctor or don't eat like this everyday" but her whole show is/was promoting an attitude of "I'm gonna make this as bad for me as possible because I'm sick of hearing that I shouldn't have butter". That's the thing about her show that I couldn't stand. She's made her name going way over the top with all the fatty stuff and now she's gonna say "well I'm not a doctor, moderation is the key"? Where was that when she was adding stick after stick of butter to recipes while her audience cheered?

I like Bourdain. He might be a jerk, but he owns it.

There's always room for judgment, dissection of opinions etc...

What would be interesting would be to look at pics of her from 3 years ago to now and see has she really lost weight (it looks like she has). She's had 3 years to get this under control and change her life for the better.

BUT HAS SHE? the fact that she's coming out with this now and becoming a spokesperson for the drug leads me to think she hasn't. I could be wrong, but that's what it looks like to me.

With her money, and in 3 years time, she could have gotten a personal trainer and a decent personal chef, dropped 50lbs and possibly been off meds. Maybe she HAS done all that..

I like Bourdain. He might be a jerk, but he owns it.

he rents it. He isnt the first to be a jerk in the media, and he wont be the last. He revels in being rude. He is a hypocrite, and spews hate like Stern, Griffin, Imus and the rest.

Hate speak has become media marketable. We have a few radio personalities like this as well. What is more disturbing is that people are entertained by hate. I like ABs shows when he isnt being a jerk. The locales, the food, it is all very interesting. His commentary (when positive) is great.

I personally would love to see the Hate Speak be eliminated from our entertainment stream

Jennesis,
I can only have one thing to say after seeing your post, in reply to mine.

SO WHAT?????
THE SPECIFIC NUMBERS ON HER WEIGHT, DIABETES, MEDICATION, ETC ARE NOT YOURS, OR BOURDAINS, OR ANYONE ELSE'S BUSINESS.

Bourdain, and people like yourself, who seem to have no problem with negative, inappropriate, hate-speech... But, stand in overt judgement and feel like you want to be privy to someone else's very intimate and personal details.

I would say that I just don't understand it.
but, really, the fact is, I understand all too well.

Bottom line is, Bourdain is not just a jerk....
He is, very obviously, the complete and total hypocrite.

I think AB is a jerk absolutely, but I didn't see any hate speech coming from Jennasis. PD is a public figure/celebrity and made her diabetes a public discussion when she went on TV to discuss it. Discussing it negatively does not equal hate speech. That accusation is unfair.

I never said anything about supporting Anthony Bourdain. I've kept my comments here to Paula Deen. He's absolutely a hypocrite. He leads a terribly unhealthy life. I enjoy his show, getting to see the foods of some locales I'll never get to, but his schtick is just schtick, like Howard Stern.

In case you missed my first post to this thread:
I would hope not. Vindicated seems to have a "gloating" kind of connotation, like he would somehow be happy that she was ill. His initial comments about Dean may have proven correct, but vindicated...nah. And i would hope he would keep any feelings of vindication to himself.

So where is my support of hate speech? You are completely out of line.

While I think that Bourdain is a jerk I think he made fair points about Deen's food. Even though I find his manner abrasive and smug he doesn't sugarcoat about the things he thinks. He was right about Deen's food style yet I hope he still is gracious enough to not gloat about her health condition.

Hate speak has become media marketable.

Note that I edited the rest of the quote because It went off the subject I wish to address. It takes real intelligence and real creativity to entertain without appealing to the lowest common denominator. Unfortunately, too many in various entertainment roles these days do not have it. When he slams PD, he's just being an attention (edited.)
