Has a CM ever forgot to charge you for an item & did you say anything about it?

2 Years ago around 12:30 AM I was purchasing two cold Roast Beef sandwiches from the Fun & Food Center. When I got back to my room & looked at my reciept I noticed that the Cast Member only charged me for 1 sandwich & not the 2nd one. Some people told me I should have went down the next morning told them about the mistake. Well I did not for a few reasons. Why should I want to pay extra for something when it was not my fault that a Cast Member made the mistake. I had the sandwich boxes on top of each other, so I don't know how he did not see the 2nd one. 2nd If I did tell a CM the next day 100% chance the same one from the night before would not have been working at the time & I think they would say don't worry about it. Anyway I was wondering has this situation ever happened to you & if so what did you do about it?

I bought some charms this week at World of Disney in DTD. The man charged me less than what he was supposed to for one of the charms (they were different prices). I did not catch it because I had no idea how much they were each.

I had them sent to Fort Wilderness. On my last day of my trip I went to the gift shop at FW and had all my purchase sent home in one shipment. The CM had to ring all the items through the cash register in order to do this. She pointed out the mistake to me and we both agreed I got a really good deal!! She had no intentions of changing it to the correct price. I can't help but think that the big wigs of Disney would say "Our bad. You win".

That would be way to honest to pay for a stupid sandwich the next day. They would probably think you were crazy!!!

I got the wrong bill at Rainforest Cafe for breakfast, it was less than mine should have been. I was worried that she (the server) might get into trouble so I told her.

Only thing remotely like this I experienced was with the Darth Mickey shipment last fall. I ordered one in June, and got it a little later than it was supposed to come. Well, a week later, I got another one. *scratches head* Promptly called Disney, and they said we hadn't been charged and it was shipped to us because they apaprently thought they never filled the initial order. :confused3 We were going to box him back up and send him back, but the CM said to keep it and consider it an early Christmas present (about 2 months early, LOL) because it would cost them more if we sent it back. Something about they would have to send a UPS man to our house to collect it because that's their policy for something like that. Really made my day. :cloud9:

My Dad went and got 3 coffees / 1 orange pop using snack credits while we were waiting for the fireworks to begin. When he came back, he handed me the slip which I put in my camera bag (gotta keep track so I can see how much I saved :woohoo: ).

Anyhoo, at the end of the trip I thought we had 9 snack credits left and it turned out we had 11 - When I looked at the drink receipt, it stated 2 snack credits used for the 4 drinks.

I must say, those 2 extra Mickey Head rice crispie treats I got tasted extra nice.

Not food, but:

DD was getting one of those design your own crowns at Everything POP. The charms range from like 79 cents to $3.

We knew what the price should be, but what the CM told us was quite a bit less.

We told her. She said she was right.

We didn't know it, but a manager was working behind her and overheard. The manager looked at the merchandise, and said that we were correct, but to charge us what the CM said anyway. Since the manager approved it, we paid the lower amount.

The manager told the CM to see her later for a review on the crown charges.

After the manager left, the CM said - "Thanks for getting me in trouble. Those stupid charms cost too much, and I was trying to give you a good deal."

Well, just operating under the concept that honesty is good, I am known to check my receipt after most any purchase, to look for overpayment or underpayment. At that point, if the CM says, "Don't worry about it," I feel that I've been faithful to do what I was supposed to do.

The wildest thing along these lines happened close to 20 years ago. I took a youth group from the church I was serving to WDW, and our rooms and park passes were master billed to the church, which I paid while on property. A couple of weeks after we returned home, I got a check from Disney stating "overpayment - refund due," and it was for the full amount of the trip. It amounted to thousands of dollars. I immediately called Disney, and talked to four different CMs, trying to kick it upstairs far enough to get some resolution. The last person I talked to simply said, "Our records show that you paid for your trip twice - and if it ultimately turns out to be our error, it won't be of any concern to you. God bless."

Years later, I still scratch my head over that one.

Years ago and DTD the last night of our trip, it was first trip with DD who was 18 months, we bought somethings including a MM toaster. DH ended up staying to pay I took DD out to walk around. He comes out and hands me the receipt and when I looked it I knew right away she didn't charge me for it. I did take it back in, DH thought I was crazy but we had a 12 hour drive in front of us with an 18 month old and the only thing I could picture was us broke down on the side of the road in the blazing July heat going 'i should have went back in'. :rotfl: But now that was a 75 dollar toaster and not something small. Also something kinda similiar happened one time, we went to MGM one morning, got there before parks opened to get in line, they let us in right at 9 then DH headed to get FF for RNRC while me and DD stopped in Staring Rolls to get croissants, muffins and 3 drinks. They were opened and they handed us are food (this was before they remolded) and when we got to the register she said 'the computers aren't up yet so don't worry about'. Plus we were like 3rd in line and there was a couple of people behind us. They were waving everybody through. This has been some years ago but everytime we go to MGM in the morning as we are heading there we always say hey lets hurry and see if they will give us some free food again. The only thing free I have ever gotten at Disney World :lmao: .

It's happened a few times, and I always point out the mistake, even if it's in our favor. It's the right thing to do. If they at that point say it's okay, all the better, and I won't argue. But I won't just walk away, or not return. Doesn't matter if they have billions of dollars and I don't.

Interesting - nine posts so far. Of the nine, 2/3 tried to correct the situation; one poster didn't but didn't realize there was an error until much later; one poster didn't attempt to correct the error but with, technically, the approval of a Cast Member not connected with the original sale or shop in any way; and one person is erroneously attempting to rationalize the decision not to TRY to correct the situation (despite realzing it only minutes after the occurrence). Among the rationalizations is "Why should I want to pay extra for something...?" Extra? Nope. Paying for EACH item purchased is not anything like paying extra. As is apparent from the responses, notifying the (ANY) merchant of an error and letting the MERCHANT choose not to charge for something is entirely different from deciding on one's own that this is the action the merchant would take.
I'm curious - if the situation were reversed, is there anybody here who wouldn't bring the situation to the CM/clerk's attention?

In 2004 during our trip for MNSSHP on Oct 31, we dinned at Pinnochio's Haus and our dinner order was totally mixed up. Burgers were incorrect, drinks were incorrect and wrong size. When I went back to get it correct (as I thought I had someone else's dinner), I was given my correct order and told to keep the order I was originally given. I was told that the original order would have to be thrown away as it could not be resold to anyone anyway. So we ended up with six extra brownies, two extra milkshakes and everyone had double burgers instead of single burgers. We ended up giving extra Figero fries and extra drinks to another couple just coming in for dinner.

ITA!!!! For me - a few cents, a free sandwich just isn't worth it. I'll never forget when I was a child my father sent me into the drug store to buy a card for my mom for Mother's Day. He gave me $5 and I came back out with $4.50 after having bought a card that was supposed to be $1.50. I gleefully pointed out my fabulous fortune(I was 10 so that extra dollar was a huge deal for me - lol) I was ASTOUNDED when my father's face turned bright red with fury - because I knew the woman had messed up and didn't correct her mistake. He marched me into that store - asked for the manager and made me explain what happened and made me give them the extra $1. I was mortified at the time - but the lesson thankfully stuck.....

I am not perfect - but I do pride myself on attempting every day to do what I know is RIGHT - not "right for me" just RIGHT.

We didn't have anything happen at DW, but a few years ago we were shopping for impending birth of our ds and had a huge order at BRU. My dh handed the cashier a bouncy seat and it scanned as he handed it to her. She took it off and set it down. I just figured she was going to scan it later as it was a large item. We weren't paying any attention after that and were chatting and such. When I checked our receipt in the car (after we were almost home) I noticed that she didn't scan the chair again. So my dh called the manager to let them know and they pretty much said "their bad" and to keep it. I still feel guilty to this day for not taking the chair back you know?

Now that's not nearly as bad as my fil and walmart. He confessed this to us last year. A few years back he and his wife were buying two tvs and a ton of other stuff at the store. Turns out he was never charged for the second tv and the guy who checked the receipt at the door never said anything either. I was mortified when he told us. It was over $300 and he just walked out with it and he's a smart man. Most of us figure the totals before we hit the register if we're buying big ticket items like that.

Totally agree.

I run a small business. If one of my employees undercharged a customer, and that customer brought it to my attention, I would just let them take the item for the price they paid. I would then have a discussion with my employee :smooth:

Disney is by no means a small business, and their prices do seem a bit much at times. But we are the consumers and can choose to purchase or not. Paying less than the marked price and not bringing it to the CMs attention is akin to stealing.

And I have never been undercharged for anyting at WDW ;)

I have never been undercharged or had something the CM forgot to ring up. But when we were at POP in 2005, they overcharged me for a rented room fridge. They kept charging me after we turned it back in. We only needed it one night. In the end they fixed it, and all is well. I would definately have taken any undercharged or forgotten item back and told them about it though. With my luck, we would have bad luck for the remainder of our trip if I didn't. :teeth:

This happened to me at The Emporium on Main Street, when we got back to the resort I noticed that the girl didn't charge me for dd's head bands, it took this chick 20 minutes to do my order of about 4 items, there was NO WAY I was going back to have her fix it, nor would I pay another day for the $5 dollar item at the MK.

However, once in the grocery store, the dimwit at the register kept trying to put my bank card through but kept hitting the wrong button so it looked like someone was trying to put a $75 order through over 15 times. My bank shut down my card and they had me call from the service desk, well my bank said it looked like someone was trying to use fraud and then after a few minutes they said it was all set and they put it through. Well I got a receipt and EVERYTHING, a few days later I noticed it never came out of my bank account, so I went back to the store and told them and they ran it through again and then came out with $20 or $30 in gift cards for me for being so honest. My dh on the other hand was going to give me $30 dollars worth of smacks to my head for driving 25 miles to make sure the grocery store who made the error in the first place got their $75 for about $5 worth of food! lol

So, in my case, IT DEPENDS on the senerio! ;)

Now let's not judge everyone and show some love for our fellow disers..group hug anyone??? :grouphug:

All of you taxpayers are gonna love this ...

One year, I got two tax refunds. I kept trying to send the second one back, but it kept coming back to me. I finally tore it up and sent it through my shredder. Ever since then, I've had a yearly fear of being audited.

Our luck is that we are more likely to be overcharged than under, especially on lodging, but that is another post...

Twice I can remember this happening, both within the past year. First at Sci-Fi. DH got an Oreo shake. It was so good, I drank almost all of it--quickly! So, we ordered a second next time the waitress came by. She didn't charge us for the second. We pointed it out and she said, "don't worry about it."

Second was at SSR's counter service restaurant. They ring up your food there before you get it. We use the DDE, so I have to do some math for the discount, but I thought that the total was wrong. DH paid while I was still doing my mental arithmetic, but upon checking the slip, I saw that we weren't charged for DD's kids meal. We alerted the cashier and she rang it up seperately. I was a little surprised that she didn't just tell us to forget it, but it was the right thing to do.

No, at 1am I would not walk back down to the food court to pay for a $3.00 sandwich. Especially at Disney, they wan't you to have a magical time, not deal with problems that are not your fault. Even if you had gone back I am sure they would have said "don't worry about it."

This happened to me not at Disney, but at the pet store this fall. The check out girl was very chatty and we talked while she checked me out. When I got home I realized I wasn't charged for a $7 item. Oh well, I wasn't going to drive all the way back to pay for it - my time is precious.

Now if it was an expensive item, then yes I'd have felt guilty and gone back to pay for it.

Why would you be surprised that she would charge you for a purchase. I don't want to make assumptions but if the only reason you pointed out the cashier's original mistake was because you thought she wouldn't charge you, then, your attempt at honesty was not sincere.
