Harry Potter's in trouble....

I just commented on this on the Harry Potter thread. I don't really see Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort, but I don't doubt that he will do a good job. He is one of the finest actors out there.

I would never have thought of him for Voldemort, but thinking about it, what a good idea.:D

If you can't see him as Voldemort, just take a look at this picture from the IMDB and you might change your mind ::yes::

Ok, for some reason you can't link to IMDB pics (how annoying)...Let me see if I can find another pic of him.

wasn't he in the movie 'Quiz Show'?

hmmm...dont' think I"m liking it...he has too cute a face.

I think he will do a great job - he can give me the creeps. I can't wait to see his portrayal of You-Know-Who...no matter what, I think the ending of GOF will spook me anyway!!

I definately remember his role in Schindler's List. Yup, he can be chilling, but still physically does not look how I pictured Voldemort.

He was in Quiz Show. He's actually quite the hottie. I don't see Voldemort as a hottie. :p

I wanted to see Alan Cumming get that role -- he has the body type and voice and a certain glint in his eye that I pictured Voldemort to have.

Ok..Let's try THIS pic:

In that picture, he looks like he could be a villain from the silent movie era.

ok - I didn't see Schindlers list...but even in that picture, still looks a little too...uh...handsome to play you-know-who.

makeup does do wonders though...we'll have to wait and see...I'm sure it'll be amazing no matter what.

anyone have a picture of who's playing mad eye moody?

Nope, he is too big, too refined looking for Voldemort. I picture Alan Cumming:

This is Mad Eye Moody:
Brendan Gleeson

IMO, Ralph would be perfect for Voldemort. He's awesome as a bad guy, very chilling in Schindler's List and again in Red Dragon. He's sophisticated enough that I can picture calling him a lord.

I think he'll do fine. Now, Eric Bana for 007 - that's an abomination.
:)

They got that one right on, imo.

LOL, Alan CUMMING? I've met him and he's all of 5'2 and was playing with a Barbie Doll. I kid you not. He is the LAST person on the planet who would be a good Voldemort, I'd be laughing too hard to take any of it seriously.

Rent Red Dragon. Then come back and say Fiennes would be a bad Voldemort.

And for those who think Voldemort is not supposed to be attractive, Tom Riddle was attractive. Besides, with proper makeup, this will not be any sort of problem anyway. Its all in the eyes, and Fiennes has the coldest eyes of any actor I can think of.

Perfect choice.

OMG - I just looked up Brendan Gleeson's bio on www.imdb.com and realized that I'm 5 months OLDER than him.

Thanks for the info everyone. I can hardly wait for the next movie (although I can't imagine how they are going to fit all of The Goblet of Fire into a single 2 hour film).

Hmmm, well I saw Alan Cumming on Broadway in as the Emcee and I KNOW he could do it. It was such a creepy portrayal. Cumming is pasty and has glittering eyes and knows how to sort of slither around, and he has the right voice for it, too, or at least, he can affect the right voice: thin, reedy, shrill.

To each their own. :) And for the record, no one said Fiennes would make a bad Voldemort. He just isn't at all how I pictured Voldemort to look.

I had read before that John Malkovich was going to play Voldemort and that seemed just perfect to me. That must have fallen through. I'm also not so sure I like Ralph Fiennes. We'll see.

Elaborating on this a bit, Sirius Black was also supposed to be good looking - JKR devotes a lot of words to how good looking Sirius was. Now maybe its me, but I say Gary Oldman is a lot of things, but being good looking never was one of them.

On the other hand, I actually loved David Thewlis as Lupin. Perfectly cast, imo.

GoF is going to be extremely tricky to direct and Ralph Fiennes has got his work cut out for him. No matter how scary he is, he won't be my brain's kind of scary; lets hope he is able to give it his best shot.

Very good point. It could be argued that 12 years in Azkaban changed Black's appearance but you are right. Oldman while a good actor has never struck me as very good looking. It almost appears that who ever is casting is only looking at the "current" picture and not what's to come. If they had maybe they would have reversed the roles and made Oldman Voldy and Fiennes Sirius ;)

I'm happy Ralph Fiennes is going to Voldemort! He did a very good evil portrayal in Schindler's List. I had a hard time picturing Lord Voldemort because his body was almost destroyed, he was just a wandering evil soul...blah, blah.
I do think he was meant to be attractive, though, in his prime. Isn't evil attractive to most people...but it's not good, that's the trick!
Excellent choice! Can't wait for the movie and the 6th book!
