Of course the book is always so great but i think this adaption captured the darkess in the book.

I liked it. However, I would have liked Lupin and Sirius' discussions of Harry's Dad and the reasoning behind the Map, the stead, and Apparatus. If you didn't read the book, you missed some vitals.

This will not stop me from seeing it again in the theatres, buying the DVD and watching it endless times on satalite.

I was very dissapointed in the big pieces they cut out (the map explaination, the aninigmus explanation, the patronus, and the serous order changes)

Me too.

I also wished they would have put in the 2nd quiditch match when Draco was trying to mess with Harry and Harry used the patronus spell.

I loved how the actors were really working together well. In the woods at the end with Harry and Hermionie (sp?) and they would hold hands it was very innocent and natural. Also when the wearwolf came at them and Harry shielded her. It was so natural. very brother/sister caring.

I am still on the fence about this movie. I really liked it but wished it would have been more true to the book. I mean, where did those stupid shrunkin heads come from, anyway??????

The third movie is not a book reading. It is it's own work of art. I knew there would be many things left out, and it really didn't bother me at all. I actually enjoyed it more because everything wasn't explained. It made me feel like an insider.... .... like someone who knew more than the rest of the audience. However I can see how someone who hadn't read the books might walk away with a few questions. (So go buy the book already!!!)

I've seen POA three times already and plan to go again soon. It's amazing how much detail went into this movie... I am still finding new things I never noticed. The sets, the backgrounds, the music, the subtle nuances, everyone needs to go and see it again!!!

For people who have read the book - the movie makes sense. For people who haven't read the book there are to many unanswered questions, and there are parts that are confusing - this is the movies biggest downfall.

Another scene that I thought could have been done better was the prediction scene. The actress was great but the sound in our theatre made it hard to understand and since the shrieking shack scene was cut short I think a lot of people missed out on understanding the importance of the prediction.

This is just my opinion.

As far as the acting and cinematography go this movie is better by leaps and bounds. The problem is the writing - there was to much left out. They could have added 15 to 20 minutes to this movie and it would have made a heck of a lot more sense. The first 2 movies people were upset about minor details being left out - but in this movie I feel that they left out the heart of the story by not showing the James and Harry connection by not explaining that James was Prongs.

This was the best movie so far from the perspective of someone who's listened to the books on tape over and over again (thanks to the kids, but I like them, too). This time, I thought they did a much better job of making Hagred appear to be much bigger than other people, with the exception of the Buckbeak scene, where he looked only a bit taller than Harry. For some reason the portrayal of Hagred's size really bothered me in the first two movies. The acting was so-o-o much better in this movie.

However, I thought the casting was better in the first two. Choosing Snape and Dumbledore was brilliant, although professor Trelawney was a good choice. But the Sirius, Lupin, and Dumbledore in POA were blah.

Saw it on Saturday and just as a movie in its own right I thought it was great and the best so far. Now as far as being true to the book goes that is another story. It was 2hrs and 20mins long and they did not stay as true to the book as the first two were. Image how long the movie would be if they did?

They are currently fliming the fourth movie. I can only image how much they are going to cut out of that unless they are going to make a 3hr flim as the fourth book was huge.

I LOVED it! Thought it was the best movie of the 3 but I really loved POA as a book too. Much better directing. I also LOVED Dumbledore in this one. I thought he was such a wise guy.

I loved all the movies. I did seem like they left alot of details out of this one. Guess they just couldn't fit it all in. I still think I like the first movie the best, although the third book is my fav.

Well I finally watched the whole movie. I liked it but will probably have to see it again to give it its just due. Anyway, I don't like the new Dumbledore but I dont think anyone could replace what Richard Harris brought to the table. I just wonder how the 3 kids will continue in their roles now that they have hit puberty. I never read the bokks but my assumption was that HP and friends were just kids around 10- 12 years old. After Goblets fo Fire what will cime next "HP goes to college"?????

Actually in the 3rd book I believe Harry has just turned 13. As of right now that actors are 15 or 16 so they actually aren't much older then the actual characters themselves.

Saw it yesterday and loved it. I wish it had been a little bit longer in order to cover a few other things. I actually did like Dumbledore. No one could replace Richard Harris. I loved his take on the part but didn't have a problem what so ever with the 'new' Dumbledore. So much wasn't covered but since it's been soooo long since I've read the book, I had to actually think about what I was missing. Looks like I'll have to go back and reread it!!!

And each book really starts with a new school year doesn't it? So, the kids would be a year older with each movie. They looked just right to me.

This was actually my least favorite of the 3 movies. I admit that I never finished the book, it just didn't hold my interest like the first two. I was actually lost in a couple of scenes in the movie. I think I will try and read the whole book again and then watch the movie again. Maybe it will make more sense to me.

I too was a bit bummed on some of the important things they cut out. Some of those things really should have been explained. And, I too was left scratching my head about those shrunken/Jamaican heads.

I think the cast is wonderful and they sure seem to work well together. I liked the new Dumbledore and thought he did a great job. Different, but good.

For those that were wondering, the kids are very close in age in real life, to their characters, so it still works. They will be just a year or two older, so I see no reason why they can't possibly even finish all 7, if it were to stay on schedule and if they take the films that far. The "kids" from Grease, which was a high school movie, were well into their 20's. Not that that's the same thing, and maybe I'm just trying to get my hopes up! LOL!

p.s..... could Dan BE ANY cuter? LOL!

Actually, the ages of the actors are just right. Daniel and Emma were 13 while filming POA (same as the book characters) and are 14 now as they start GOF (4th year students are 14). Rupert is 16 already I think, but still passes for 14. The problem could possibly arise with books 6 and 7, since there is no way of knowing when or if those movies will be made.

I've already started my GOF countdown.

I thought the movie was great. Even with the parts that were left out.

The new Dumbledore was very good. He did his own version of Dumbledore, a little bit spunkier than Harris. That's good, he didn't try and "replace" Harris, he did it his own way. It worked.

The one thing that's strange though, is seeing all the kids in their street clothes so often. I like the robe look much better. Much more magical. But I guess they're growing up.

Michael Gambon wasn't in any of the LOTR movies.

I liked the movie, but it was just OK. I feel that if someone has had no other HP exposure, they would wonder what all the hype is.
I too wondered about the change in locale of the tree and the hut. I wish there was more explanation about the map and the stagf, but will hope that it is in the next movie somehow. I will buy it when it comes out on DVD, I love HP too much not to.

I'm really enjoying reading everyone's thoughts and opinions on The Prisoner of Azkaban film.

About the "new" Dumbledore-- This actor most closely resembles in apperance and character the Dumbledore I imagined before any of the movies were out or even talked about But I grew to like Harris' portrayal--it was different from my imagination.

Daniel is getting more and more handsome with each film . Rupert's getting cuter, too. (The HP books and films are DH's FAVORITE entertainment-- so I can get away with making comments like that in front of him, even though I am 12 years older than the characters!)
