Sorry if this is in the wrong place.. didn't really fit any forum.

From CNN.Com:

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- J.K. Rowling, who became the world's first billion-dollar author on the back of Harry Potter's success, has given the go-ahead for the creation of a Florida theme park dedicated to the schoolboy wizard.

"The plans I have seen look incredibly exciting and I don't think fans of the books or films will be disappointed," Rowling said of the Orlando park that is scheduled to open in 2009.

The park is a joint venture between Warner Bros. Entertainment, whose Potter films have so far grossed more than $3.5 billion worldwide, and Universal Orlando Resort (Warner Bros. Entertainment is owned by the same parent company as CNN).

In a statement rich in entertainment hyperbole, the builders of "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" said they planned to "create the world's first immersive Harry Potter themed environment."

Barry Meyer, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Entertainment, said: "Over the years we've received thousands of letters from fans around the world wishing they could visit Hogwarts (School) and the wonderful locations described in each of J.K. Rowling's beloved stories."

The park's opening could help to quell the withdrawal symptoms of Potter fans around the globe who have bought 320 million copies of her wizard tales and turned every one of the films into a box office hit.

Pottermania is set to scale new heights in July with the last novel hitting the bookstands and the latest film being launched in a deluge of global publicity.

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," the final installment in her hugely successful series, is being released on July 21.

Rowling is to mark publication with a moonlight reading for fans at London's Natural History Museum.

Sweepstakes are being conducted by her British publisher Bloomsbury Publishing Plc and American publisher Scholastic to pick the winning fans.

"Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix," the fifth film in a blockbuster series based on the books, is being given its official world premiere in London on July 3.

Rowling, whose books are always released under tight security, has said two characters will die in the seventh and final book but she has refused to give any clues.

The author has appealed to people to keep the end a secret: "I want the readers who have, in many instances, grown up with Harry, to embark on the last adventure they will share with him without knowing where they are going." (Full story)

U.S. authors John Irving and Stephen King were so worried about the fictional hero's fate that they urged Rowling to spare the bespectacled hero.

The OP stated he/she wasn't sure where to put this and may not be aware of the Universal forum (I keep forgetting it's there!). I'm sure many people who otherwise might have missed it will appreciate seeing the announcement here. :goodvibes But I do agree that further discussion is appropriate in the other forum. :thumbsup2

IMO it has everything to do with Disney trip planning. I'm not naive enough to believe that people who travel many miles to Orlando are only going to Disney. Universal, Sea World, Busch Gardens and now Harry Potter can only add to the attraction.

I'm glad it was posted here. I would have missed it if it were only on the Universal board.

So glad to hear this--my daughter was just saying she wished there were a Harry Potter theme park. :goodvibes

Saying Universal has everything to do with Disney Trip Planning is like saying that Dolphins have everything to do NASA going to the moon. It's called DISNEY Trip Planning for a reason and It's the same reason why he have a UNIVERSAL Podcast now.

Yup. My own next trip will be Disney and Universal, so that means figuring out how many days at each, which days, etc. I think the separate forums are for discussion of attractions, inside park strategies, etc.

Harry Potter COULD POTENTIALLY affect Disney vacations. Will it draw more people away from WDW, thinning crowds? Will it draw more people to Orlando who otherwise weren't planning on coming and they'll add WDW to the mix, increasing crowds? No way to know, but I'm sure most of us are curious!

If Potter is worth it, I could end up knocking a day off my Disney/Universal vacation. Nah, has nothing to do with Disney trip planning at all.

This is SOOOOO exciting!!!!!!!!!!! US/IOA will be even better with this addition. Can't wait!!!!!!!!!

Sheeeesh.... :rolleyes1 Agreed it's a little OT...but nothing to get upset over. I never look in the Universal forum either, so I probably wouldn't have known about this for awhile yet without this thread.

I look at it this way - when the Harry Potter park opens, we'll be planning which days we'll go to Disney and which days we'll go to HP. ;)

I'm not naive enough to believe that people who travel many miles to Orlando are only going to Disney.

Actually, we travel many many miles a couple times a year and only go to Disney, we lived down here and I never had any desire to go to Universal or SeaWorld. So there are people out there that only go to Disney, like us!

Plus the Harry Potter theme park is headline news on Yahoo.

To each his or her own. Obviously by the replies, I'm not alone in my view. Have a nice day. :)

Thanks for the info OP!

--Man I never knew there was a Universal Forum either I guess because it is all the way at the bottom and you have to scroll down to it. I usally don't go past the budget board! LOL! :goodvibes Oh Well! Nothing to get bent out of shape about.:hippie:

Very cool. I just heard it mentioned on the local news. I'm sure Universal will do a great job. Good thing I have APs to both WDW and Universal! :goodvibes

Thanks for the info OP, I also do not frequent the Universal Boards and would not have otherwise found out. I am bummed it isnt Disney though. Looks like we will be planning at trip to Universal in the future.

So I guess the plan to replace Lost World with Diagon Alley was nixed in favor of a whole theme park?

We'll see how it plays out.

No it's not a whole theme park but a new island at IOA. They will be incorporating part of Lost Continent and shrinking LC.
