Harry Potter movie SPOILERS

the sceens on the bridge did happen in the book - you just didn't see it - the 2 ministers talked about the bad week they both had and it was the same week. the bridge collapse, hurricanes, mist

But, the movie was just so much better in general. It flowed much better, there were no "filler" scenes that could have been cut, what was cut out from the book was easily explained elsewhere (like the timing on Harry and Ginny's first kiss) or wasn't missed at all. For instance, the part of Harry getting Dobie and Kreacher to follow Draco was not there; nor did we need the scene. I felt like the movie did a very good job of letting you know exactly what was going on with Draco. In the last movie, I felt like so much was cut that there was no way to understand the movie without reading the book.

I completely agree with you on the Draco thing. I think they portrayed it brilliantly! And the last scene with Draco and Dumbledore was very believable.

OH, yes!! I cried from the moment Draco pulled his wand on Dumbledore. I knew what was going to happen but the look of pain on Draco's face was just devastating.

Actually, Tom Felton did an amazing job showing the pain, frustration and fear that Draco was going through.

I also liked the way the scene of Snape killing Dumbledore played out. It was so different from the book, but I almost liked it better. Snape coming up to Harry gave that impression that he was there to help. I knew it was fixing to happen but when Snape said the spell I still jumped! Alan Rickman was also great in this movie.

Nope, that wasn't in the 6th book at all (though there is an incident involving The Burrow in the 7th book). The only thing I can think of is that Yates wanted to make the film slightly more action-packed, bringing in scenes such as The Burrow and the Millennium Bridge destruction at the beginning to spice tihngs up a bit :confused3 It didn't seem to add much depth to the plot - unless perhaps the slight exploration of Harry/Ginny's relationship.

I guess it did show how much Ginny cared about Harry with her running after him and gave that nod to Sirrus with Harry going after Belatrix again. I just wonder what they will do without the Burrow for the next movie. Maybe that was the point to set it up for the next movie? :confused3

Really? I wish they had included Dumbledore casting the spell on Harry that froze him so he could not react.

Other than wishing that part had been included, I thought it was excellent. We are going to see it again in a few weeks on IMAX.

I agree! The look on Draco's face at the end of the movie made me want to cry. There was just so much emotion there (I just wanted to give him a hug  ).

i still have to wait until friday to see it :(

i'm so tempted to go see it alone tomorrow but dh wants to go friday night

Draco was good in this one...I still do not like him but I an relate to his situation.

I did enjoy the movie but a few things bothered me. Some have already been mentioned, for example Dumbledore not putting Harry under the spell to freeze him during the tower scene. Very out of character for Harry not to act then. The thing that bothered me the most though was the ring. It didn't have the Hallows symbol on it and it wasn't explained about the Gaunts and Tom being the last descendent of Slythrin. How is that going to work in the final movie without the Hallows symbol on the ring?

That's a good point about the ring. I hope they don't leave the whole Hallows aspect out of the film.

I have to wait until the weekend of August 1st! I promised 3 of nieces & a nephew I would take them, and they all want to go together. 2 nieces live here in NY, but my nephew & other niece live in VA. The VA kids are coming to NY that weekend, so we're going to try to fit it in then. (and I also promised the VA kids' younger brother a movie that weekend too--he's too young for HP). But I might go see it by myself before that......

Please forgive me for asking but i spent about 20-25 min in restroom with my ds5 who thought he was going to be sick  :eek Did they explain why Dumbledore had a blacken hand? I did enjoy the movie alot but was very disappointed in the ending. I will be going again to see the movie soon but alone this time. But this weekend I'll be in chicago to see the Harry Potter exhibit. :woohoo:

I saw it today after class. It was great, we went to this small community theater and it was nowhere near sold out. There was maybe 20 people in the audience. No need to buy tickets in advance, you could just buy your ticket and walk right in. That's why I love going to the small little movie theater.

I didn't understand why Dumbledore didn't stupefy Harry. Wasn't that the whole reason why Draco was able to disarm Dumbledore? Because he took the extra second to cast the spell on Harry? And I didn't get the Burrow burning down, what was the point of that?

I saw the movie this afternoon with my grandson and I have been dying to talk about it with someone else who has seen it. My husband gave up on the movies, and the books after Goblet of Fire. He's not very fond of the author's writing. So even though he asked me about the movie, he can't comment about something he hasn't read, or seen. Now I on the other hand have enjoyed the movies, and the books for the most part. I have concluded that the author is telling two different stories here. One for the pages of her books, and the other for the movie screen. I guess that makes sense, since there's no way all the details in the books can be seen on screen. The movies would be way, way too long.

However, why add scenes that make no sense? Unless of course it is setting us up for future scenes in future movies. What disappoints me the most is when reading these delightful books, you get a vision in your head of scenes you hope to see in the movie, and then they are not there.

I like the fact that the kids have paired up. Ron and Hermione, and Harry and Ginny. However, I missed seeing Neville. The kids were supposed to help Harry at the end, and they didn't. I should have been crying when Dumbledore died at the end, and it left me feeling nothing. No way would Harry just let Snape walk by him like that at the end, after Snape told him to hush.

I left the theatre enjoying the movie for the most part. However, the HBP was my favorite book, but the movie should have been so much better, and it wasn't.

i don't think jk did the screenplay. it's someones interpretation of the book which is why they add stuff

Could somebody please let me know how much I missed? Our film ripped in half and we went from the middle of the scene where Harry, Ron, and Hermione are with McGonagal following Katie's poisoning to the middle of Ron and Harry in the dorm talking about love interests. How much did we miss?

wow - really???? how full was the theatre and how loud did it get when the film broke?

i'm not seeing it until friday so i can't tell ya but that must have been frustrating.

Now I don't understand that. She writes these books, and then she doesn't care about how they are portrayed on the screen? I just don't get that.

Screenwriter, Steve Kloves, commented recently on Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, in an interview for the Los Angeles Times. Mr. Kloves has scripted every adaptation of the Harry Potter series except for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Kloves revealed that, in the beginning, he worked closely with the author of the books, J. K. Rowling. However, she gave him quite a bit of leeway, saying that she knew the films had to be different from the books. Her main request was that he simply stay true to the characters.

Dang! Was the theater up in arms about that?
