DS's friend is turning 7 and having a Harry Potter themed bday party. Does anyone have any themed gift suggestions? He is going into 2nd grade, are the books too much for him? Plus, mom may already have, I think she read them. Are there any board games, etc...?

I know you used to be able to buy Harry Potter themed jelly beans from Jelly Belly. They were like the ones in the book, with some disgusting flavours (vomit, booger, dirt, grass) and some good ones. My nephews thought that was a cool gift.

2nd grade is a great time to start the books, if he is reading at that level! And take it from one set of "Mom reads the books and so does DD", them having their own books are a REALLY big deal to them. At Hot Topic they sell a TON of Harry Potter items, including shirts and ties and stickers and all kinds of crazy fun. I also recommend the Harry Potter Scene It *** it is SOOOO fun and the one game I can 100% of the time beat DH at! 2 years ago the makers of 20Q (20 questions) made a little electric 20 question thing in the shape of a Snitch. Got it at Toys R Us. Loads of fun!

DS8 had a Harry Potter themed party and he received a couple of different magic sets that were pretty cool. He also received movie #1 on Blue Ray. He recieved a gift bag full of different Harry Potter themed candy (along with a non-Harry Potter gift). He got the quiditch 20 q. game too.

My DD10 won a Harry Potter wand (a cheap one) at a raffle when we saw the movie last night. Her older brother and his friend were both drooling over it (friend even offered her $ for it). Maybe a wand?

Target has some great Harry Potter themed school supplies right now. I got a folder for my DD9- they have one for each house.

My boys have owned many HP toys. The only ones that they have kept over the years are the wands. They still play with the wands all the time...

He isn't too young to start reading the books. I started the first one in second grade (about half a year after they came out in the US) and LOVE IT! It opened up an entirely new world for me. I have met soo many new people, have had so many unique and worthwhile experiences (and so much more) thanks to these books.

There definitely is something about having read the books at a very young age, and then going back and rereading when older that allows you to grasp different concepts and see different meanings in the books. I would get him the first book or two. :goodvibes

I have several shops. This is our newest. My kids and I saw the latest movie and I have been making the buttons/magnets ever since. We LOVED it! Figured I would post them for all the other fans out there. I can personalize them if you wish. Just contact us.

There are some fun crafts out there for kids to do (or adults for party favors) that may be fun for a party - google harry potter crafts.:yay:

I'm not sure of your budget, I bought a wand for dd a few years ago. It came in a super nice gift box and really well made.
