How do you pronounce this name: Scrimgeour?

I have looked all over for a pronunciation guide and cannot locate the name on any.

Thanks so much for your help!

Warmly, Daxx's Wife

Hmmm...I've been saying "scrim" "jur"...

Can I hijack your thread a little bit? We can turn this into a HP Q & A. I want to know what a "squib" is? Anybody know?

And I've been saying "Scrim-jow-er" in my head. Don't know if it's correct though.

a squib is a person born into an all wizard family, but has no magial talent

A squibb is a non-magical person born of magical parents....Mrs. Figg (of the many cats) and Filch are both squibbs!

Another vote for scrim-jower.

My 10 year old DD was reading me something and kept pronouncing Ginny with a hard G - like guinea. It was funny!

Our family has been listening to the CD edition, read/performed by Jim Dale (he's SO wonderful!) and this is how he is pronouncing it. I'd assume that he clears pronunciation questions with JKR so I think this (Scrim-jur) is the correct way of saying it.

This is how he is pronouncing this but I don't think he "clears" that with JKR because there have been words in the past that he clearly mispronounced-like Beazor-he pronounced that bez-wah and it is bee-zore.

Thanks for the pronunciation!!! You don't now how hard it is to get over Sirius (serious)....We kept saying "Si-rus" (long i). I have to force my brain to say it right.

Thanks for the variety of pronunciations!

I checked that scholastic site, Annette_VA, but no luck on finding the name there.

As for the Jim Dale pronunciations, I agree that he does pronounce words differently than they are pronounced in the movies, etc. For example, he pronounces Lord Voldemort's name like "Vol-da-more". In the movies, they add the t at the end so you hear it as "Vol-da-mort". I do have to say that I love listening to the Jim Dale CD's immensely, though!

Hopefully, we'll find out the real pronunciation of Scrimgeour soon!
