Let me begin by saying.... I hate Roller coasters! I don't like the dropping feeling that you get when you go down a steep hill.
I can tolerate Sorin at Disney. I can handle rides that go up , down, side to side. I Love Test Track. The speed doesn't really bother me.

Now F.J. What is it like? roller Coaster-ish?
Will I freak out?
:)

my chicken DS loves this ride.
I don't do coasters, other then Mummy, and he will not step on that ride again
but FJ he will do all day long.I'm with you tho never rode it yet.
from what I hear its Spidy on steriods

There aren't major drops that would come anywhere close to EE or The Hulk. It much more a simulator ride closer to Spider-Man, The Simpsons or Star tours as far as drops go. On the other hand, various rides can give me motion sickness from mild to moderate. FJ was one of the toughest on me motion sickness-wise so if that is an issue for you, I would consider that aspect of the ride before deciding if you want to go on it or not.

I am a big HP fan and much preferred the walking tour through the Hogwarts castle than the ride itself. We did the ride first and then after I stopped feeling nauseated, we went back and just walked through the castle.

I hate roller coasters, too.....but I love FJ. The first time I rode it, I closed my eyes, and was fine. It just jerked back and forth a bit. The second time around, I opened my eyes and loved it. If you enjoy Soarin, you will love FJ. It is just a bit wilder....but not much.

You can get that belly-drop *feeling* from FJ, but it's all in your mind. Close your eyes and you won't get that feeling because the robot arm doesn't drop that far to make it a physical feeling. Just close your eyes for a few seconds.

And my general advice for FJ is to go on it when you're not too hungry and you're not too full. I find that I do really well on it if I'm about an hour after a good meal. Not a snack, but real food. Settles my stomach just enough.

That's how my body works, at least. :)

Sorry I have to disagree with FJ being just a bit wilder than Soarin - I would say it is much wilder. Soarin is very mild to me. When we got off FJ, DH looks at me and says "was that you yelling the entire time?" I am sure part of it was just the fact that it was the first time I rode it so everything was much more of a surprise to me than the rides at WDW, but I thought it was a very intense ride - just not in the sense of a major drop like on a roller coaster. I go on every single ride at WDW and many of the rides at US/IOA including Hulk and I still found FJ to be intense.

We are not roller coaster people. My husband and kids age 10 and 12 loved Forbidden Journey. I did not like it as much because I felt like I was going to fall when you seer tipped backwards. That said, I still went on t again with them a second time!

Hi !

For what it's worth, I am not crazy about roller coasters in general as I do suffer from motionsckness, not a fear of heights, ride malfunction, etc.. Like you, I can also do Soarin, Rockin' Roller Coaster early (before eating ;)), and Testtrack is no problem at any time. HOWEVER, HP left me feeling very queasy ;)- the beginning was OK, then things started to turn from bad to worse for me, and had to sit down as soon as I came out of the attraction and watch everyone who walked pass me ask if I was OK - much to the embarrassment of my kids! BTW, wish I could have walked through the ride as the effects were cool from what I did manage to see - but I had to close my eyes for most of ride and just tell myself it would be over soon :rotfl2: ! Once I was feeling better, I did have a drink of Butter Beer and enjoyed the rest of HP :cool1:!!

FJ is more comparable in intensity to Dinosaur. It is not a roller coaster but is a bench attached to a kuka arm that runs along a track.

I think its fair to say that its like Soarin on OVERDRIVE, with physical sets in addition to the screens. To me, its nothing like a roller coaster. Its very hard to put into words, and there is no close comparison. Definitely try it once.....you may just like it!

If you're a huge Harry Potter fan, you have to try Forbidden Journey. It is amazing and there are no drops. The more you ride it, the more you learn when to anticipate it.

its Spidy on steriods
That was exactly what I was going to write. I don't think of it like Soarin' To me, Soarin' is floating and relaxing while FJ is not kicking back but on a pursuit. I do get motion sickness so I wore my sea bands and was fine. Out of all the rides at WDW, EP, HS, AK, IOA, SW, and US, Forbidden Journey is easily the most intense. That's not a bad thing though! It's all kinds of wonderful!
