Does anyone want to discuss Harry Potter who has not finished it yet? I know there's a thread for those who've finished the book, but I'd like to discuss it as I'm reading it, without worrying about reading and / or giving away spoilers.

I'm going to give my thoughts on the first nine chapters. Please DO NOT post any spoilers for anything after chapter nine. I'll update my thoughts tomorrow for however many more chapters, if people want to post how far along they've read, I can have a general idea of where to read to by tomorrow.

Chapter One

Put simply, Voldermort gives me the creeps. I don't know what to think about Malfoy or Sanpe at this point. Killing the one Professor, (who was that? I don't remember her mentioned before.)

Chapters Two

I skimmed through this pretty quickly, (horrible I know, and I'm sure there're little things I missed in the articles, but I'll re-read them later.) I do not like Rita, I never have.

Chapter Three

So Dudley finally came around. Good for him.

Chapter Four

I have so many thoughts on this chapter, I'll try to keep it brief though. The "seven Harrys" was cool, though I was worried about certain characters the whole time. I was so upset to see Hedwig be the first character to be cut, I know the professor Voldermort killed was technically "first, but Hedwig's death really got to me. I think it shows that no one is safe, since I wasn't even considering animals in my "who's going to die," predictions. I was upset about Hedwig all last night, trying to let it sink in that she was gone. Voldermort can fly? WTH is up with that?

Chapter Five

Another chapter I was generally worried about the characters the whole time. This is not going to be an easy read for me. Horrible about George's (or was it Fred's?) ear. Though I'm so glad they still have their senses of humor, even with that. I was way more upset about Hedwig then I was with Moody. I just really never liked that character all that much.

Chapter Six

A much lighter chapter, which I feel was needed, and was glad to read.

Chapter Seven

I've never liked Scrimgeour.

Chapter Eight

That sounded like a beautiful wedding ceremony. Glad to see Luna again, and Krum. Ron's Aunt Muriel sounds so stuck up. I can't figure out about Luna's father. I know Krum's being cautious about him, but I don't know what to think. Scrimgeour's dead. The first death I am not at all upset about.

Chapter Nine

Hermione is a genius. I wonder if Harry really does still have some kind or other of a trace on him?

Hi there!

I'm at page 544.

As for the first 9 chapters, I thought they started fast and furious, and the pace continues for quite a while!!!

The first death, Charity Burbage, was the Professor of Muggle Affairs from Hogwarts. I don't remember her playing a very big role in previous books.

I liked Dudley and Harry's farewells. Dudley almost made my eyes well up! Aunt Petunia is a bee-ach, though.

Was sad that Hedwig is gone. She and Harry have been through a lot, and I'm sorry that she won't be there at the end for him anymore.

I think Mad-Eye was a difficult character for many readers to sympathize with, because he was so, well, bizarre. But he was a loyal and devoted member of the Order, and Harry really liked him, so it was a bit sad. Not to shed tears for, though.

Scrimgour was an insecure, indecisive, ineffective leader, and openly hostile to Dumbledore, so I wasn't sad at all that he's gone. But the deaths are piling up at an alarming rate, aren't they?

Let's keep up this discussion . . . :thumbsup2

I am up to chapter 13 (I think- about 365 pages in)

Snape- I thought he was good, now I'm not so sure (although I wonder who the "source" they decussed was?)

I did really like the idea of the 7 Harry's- although Hagrid is not the one I would have chosen

I am still very interested in how the caught up to Harry and Hermonie so quick

I don't remember exactly were chapter 9 ends, but there is something interesting right around that spot, so I won't talk about it until I find out if you have read up to that point

I finished it. Discuss away, just tell me what the last thing you read is, so I don't get ahead of myself.

I didn't mean to read so far, I meant to read it more slowly, but I just couldn't put it down.

I didn't realize that you were the one that started the thread :headache:

ok- so since it seems I have read the least amount in the book

wow....this is tough......everytime I think of something, I remember that you all have finished the book, so know the answers to my questions........:upsidedow

You should read the articles in chapter 2, just my opinion. :)

My DH is reading it now, and I'm not allowed to talk with him about it, even up to the point where he's read, because he fears I will take a tone, that will give it away.

I can't remember exactly either - and I don't have the book with me! I'm at work and 16 year old DD made me leave the book at home so she could read it today!!

But I was curious about what you said was "something interesting" happening around there . . .

I did something like that yesterday. I took my brother-in-law to see OOTP, and on the way home when we were talking about it, I mentioned that I was dissapointed that they didn't show the locket when they were in the headquarters (he hadn't gotten to the part in the book yet where they all go back to the headquarters and talk to Kreatcher)

It was about the locket. I am shocked that is was under everyones nose for a good part of OOTP and no one picked up on it (especially Moodey)

My comments in purple...

Chapter One
Put simply, Voldermort gives me the creeps. I don't know what to think about Malfoy or Sanpe at this point. Killing the one Professor, (who was that? I don't remember her mentioned before.)

I am thinking that the Malfoys are going to end up good...:confused3

Chapter Three
So Dudley finally came around. Good for him.

I thought it was kind of sad when the Dursleys left. lol

Chapter Four

Wow, I agree about Hedwig!! I even knew she was going to die (saw it on another thread on here...couldn't help myself from looking) and still started crying. I also never considered the animals in who was going to die. About had a heart attack when the Death Eaters were all of a sudden there!!! :scared1:

Chapter Five
I was way more upset about Hedwig then I was with Moody.

Me too.

I'm going to be curious to find out more about Dumbledore after all that Muriel said. Also wondering about Luna's dad...hmmmmmmmmm. Also, just about Fleur, I love the way she talks. hehe

I think I'm up to about chapter 13 now, so I won't say anymore!
