Harry Potter Book 7 *SPOILERS*

I'm really surprised so many people felt this way. I thought it was totally in character. Mrs. Weasley is a very dominant woman. She rules her Burrow with an iron fist. She plays the role of the quiet, homely wife, but she's no wilting flower. She was a Gryffindor. She joined the Order, like her two brave but unfortunate brothers before her. She doesn't like swearing because it's unseemly, but she's just seen her son die and her family ripped apart. And some evil woman is tossing death curses at her little girl. I think, at that point, she wouldn't give a rat's behind for propriety.

Thank you! That's exactly how I felt about that moment as well and you worded it better than I could have. And another poster (can't remember who), made the comparison that Lily Potter didn't curse when she died for Harry. I guess they were trying to say that she handled it, for lack of a better word, more gracefully than Mrs. Weasley. But I just don't see that, I really don't. Everyone handles situations differently and Mrs. Weasley's fierce, protective side reared it's head here in the form of a curse word. Big deal. I didn't think it was AT ALL inappropriate, in fact, I loved it :thumbsup2 I cheered "you go Mrs. Weasley!" when I read that :teeth:

and WHY oh WHY wasn't there a scene where Delores Umbridge got what was coming to her????

If I had one complaint about this book, that would be it. I would have loved to see that horrible woman get what she deserved. In my head, of course, I imagine that the new Minister of Magic punishes all the ministry members like Umbridge, who went along with Voldemort's regime quite gladly.

AHH! Love Harry Potter! So sad it's over. I have so many thoughts: things I loved, things I thought should have been different, times I cried (so many!) but I just don't have the energy to put it all in words right now. A lot of it has been touched on by the many responses of this thread anyway.

One thing I wanted to mention that I didn't think of until reading through this thread and seeing the mention of Victoire. I have to admit, I didn't realize at first that this was the child of Bill and Fleur. (Duh, so obvious!) BUT think about this. Teddy Tonks and Victoire are an item AND they both are part werewolf!

I just made a possible connection....please feel free to correct me if I am wrong. But, when Harry is burying Dobby, he is finally able to shut Voldemort out of his mind through his grief. Could it be that he was never good at Occlumancy because he couldn't "call up" his grief? Whereas Snape was so good at it because of his grief over Lilly????

Hmmmmm....

That could've had a lot to do with it. Snape was also good with legilimency though which means he probably had a general knack for mind magic, I'm thinking.

Two completely differen scenarios. Lily was unarmed and was begging for her chidl to be spared - Mrs. Weasly was armed and was literally in the middle of a war ... :) I thought the line was great! I may look like a dowdy old fool but when you mess with my child - watch me roar and fight....

Sorry if this question has already been asked - how could Snape be talking to Dumbledore's picture about Harry's departure from the Dursley's? At that time the Ministry hadn't fallen, Snape wasn't Headmaster and was still wanted for questioning about Dumbledore's murder. How could he have been in the head's office at Hogwarts then?

I wasn't at all surprised at Molly Weasley calling Bellatrix a b*tch - in the UK that is not really considered a swear word - not much worse than calling someone a cow. I was surprised at Ron using the word b*stard - that REALLY is a swear word!

See now that makes a lot of sense. I know that in different countries, some words aren't considered as harsh as others. So if in the UK, the "b" word isn't a big deal I can see why JKR didn't think anything of putting it in there. And interesting that b*stard is considered worse over there because here, I think people generally feel b*tch is much harsher.

A couple of thoughts:

1) It felt like Harry's apparent death bacame a rallying point. It is once V announces that Harry is dead that Neville makes his attack and the elves, centaurs and other creatures join the fight. V tried to claim that Harry was killed while attempting to flee in hopes that that would crush the rebellion, but it appeared to have the opposite effect.

2) The death of Lupin and Tonks was sudden and with no explanation. But I think that is to be expected as that is how it would have appeared the Harry. In some ways, we can now relate to how Harry must of felt when he found out that they had been killed - sudden and with no explanation.

So, I enjoyed Deathly Hallows so much that I bought the special edition today.

I'm rereading the book right now. It's so much better the 2nd time around because I'm not frantic to find out what happened. I can really take my time and mull things over. I've loved all the books and I've read them all probably 8 or 9 times apiece and each time it seems like I learn something new. It's so much easier to piece things together having the full knowledge of all 7 books.

I still love the Mrs. Weasley scene. If it was me in that situation, or any situation were my child was in danger, I'm sure I would have said much, much worse.

Now, I'm interested to see how they fit the last 2 books into the movie series. We went to see OOP Friday nnight and I counted at least 31 things that were either changed in the movie or left out. I still enjoyed it, but the books are still way better.

I know Lupin, Tonks, Fred, and Colin Creevy all died in the Battle of Hogwarts. The book also said fifty others died as well. Any idea who else the other fifty were?

For the romantic in me, I wish she had written more about the things Harry admired in Ginny. I felt there was more written on this level for Cho, so although I know Harry was interested in Ginny from previous books, I wish she had developed that more. His feelings about so many things are explored in depth, like Dobby. I just wanted more deep emotional stuff for Ginny!

That is interesting! Both of their fathers were attacked by the same werewolf, too. Definitely a common bond.

I'm slightly amused that so many people are upset at the word *itch. I guess because I teach teens, I'm not so shocked at basic vulgarity. Certain words bother me, but that one I barely noticed until I read this site.

Ohhhhh - I'M SO EXCITED!

Really - total HP nerd. And, I'm not ashamed to admit that the headline to this article I can totally relate to!

Article also mentions the character that got the reprieve - and I'm REALLY glad she changed her mind, it's a character I quite like.

We were all spot on on the two deaths that she didn't expect, by the way.

Just wanted to share - really, I am going to go take care of my family now.

YEA!!!!! Thanks for sharing.

Twingle, I was about to come and post about the Today article- you beat me to it!! I am just beyond excited to hear the news, and I actually gasped when she said who the person who was supposed to die and didn't was. I'm so looking forward to finding out more about so many of the characters, and hearing about how some of them turned out after Book 7.

I will definitely add the encyclopedia to my library!

I also just went to her website for the first time, and plan to spend more time playing there in the future. I read through the rumors section, and found where in 2005 she stated that Aunt Petunia would NEVER be able to do magic. Can't wait to see what else I can find out there.
