Harry Potter Book 7 *SPOILERS*

I just remembered something else that got me. How at the very end, after everything Harry had been through, he couldn't wait to get back to his 4-poster bed in their dormitory. Such a simple wish. ((sniff)) :sad1:

Oh I know, that was SUCH a great reward for everything he'd been through that whole year! Finally he got to cuddle up in his bed and have a good rest. He was finally home.

I just finished the book, and it was a great read! Kudos to Rowling for writing a good ending to an excellent series.

It was a brilliant story, though I'm sad to see the series end.

I loved the book and this has been a great discussion!!

The only thing I have to add is my idea about Hugo's name...He's named after VICTOR Hugo. From Wikipedia: (1802 - 1885) French poet, novelist, playwright, essayist, visual artist, statesman, human rights campaigner and perhaps the most influential exponent of the ROMANTIC movement in France!

I really think it would be a name Hermione would appreciate!!

Holly cow I made it to the end of the book, and now this thread! My eyes are blurry.

Sorry to just jump in here, but I thought the same thing-that Myrtle was going to make an appearance. I figured she would help them find the crown horcrux.:confused3 I did absolutely love the book!!! DH is reading it now so I had to keep mum about everything that happened. He laughed at me while I was sitting on the couch bawling but I bet he will shed a few tears too.:rotfl2: Unfortunately he is the slowest reader on the planet, so I'll have to wait to discuss AND to start reading it again.

I thought they were going to get Myrtle to help them look for it too. She might have been in it, just not parts we saw (H & Ron would of seen her.) Still I wish she had a sentence in the book.

I am also surprised that the phoenix didn't make an appearance too. I knew his wand was made from phoenix feather, so I new somehow he would have his old wand back, but I wasn't sure how. I liked how they did that.

I didn't like him leaving the stone in the field. That means it was open for someone else to find.

I wish if Tonks and Lupin had to die they would have at least shown us how and why. Made it have more of a reason and purpose. Not just senseless causalities of war. As a mom it breaks my heart. Maybe as a "children's book" JKR thought it was more "kind" that way. I don't know.

Madeye dying set the feeling for the book, even the toughest of aurers can die now.

I think there must be a lot of guilt with his owl dying. If he had just allowed it to fly away somewhere and meet them in a few days, he would of lived. If he had thought he book might have been different. They would have had a way to communicate with others.

I liked how they discussed why he couldn't just call Kreacher when they left the house. I liked how she often covered what "we" might think is common sense. I loved how Kreacher changed with true kindness.

Wonderful book. I loved it. :thumbsup2

Great book, great thread. I've enjoyed reading your thoughts and opinions on different aspects of the book and you've shed some light on areas I was unclear on.

I always believed that Snape was good, I truly hoped that they had somehow faked Dumbledore's death. I felt that Snape sent the Doe Patronus to guide Harry to the sword but I couldn't remember if we had ever seen Snape's patronus before.

I knew that one of the Weasley boys had to die, there was just too many of them for all of them to come through so I wasn't really surprised by Fred's death though I would rather it had been Percy.

I loved getting a look at Ron, Hermione, Harry and Ginny in the future, I wish we could have found out more about what happened to the other characters as well.

Overall, well worth the lack of sleep. :)

I still don't get how Neville gets the Sword. So when the Sorting Hat is on fire on his head he manages to pull it out? If that is it, it certainly wasn't explained at all.

I had just assumed the sword was the "fake" sword that was in Dumbledore's office and the kids got in trouble earlier in the book for trying to steal it didn't they? I can't remember.
but then if it was the fake sword it couldn't have killed the horcrux in Nagini.
so??? :confused3

If you go back to Chamber of Secrets, Harry was able to get the sword out of the hat when he shows allegience to Dumbledore, who later explains that it takes a true Gryffindor could take the sword out of the hat. Voldermort had put the sorting hat on Neville's head after he'd also sworn loyalty to Dumbledore, and stood up against Voldemort, which also made him able to take the sword from the hat and kill Nagini--showing the bravery that made him a true Gryffindor.

I LOVED this book and I loved the whole series and I loved the movies! I freaking love Harry Potter! :goodvibes I was so happy with the book that I...um....did something I swore I'd never do. I got a tattoo today! :rotfl2: I am still in shock that I did this! So for you HP fans, here's a picture of what I now have permanently stuck on my shin.

There was something about the epilogue that reminded me of something else. I've finally figured it out: it really reminded me of a scene written for a movie, not a book. Kind of how Michael Crichton's second dinosaur novel (Lost World) felt compared to the first (Jurassic Park). I can see how the epilogue would play out on the screen as a post-credits scene (rather like in Pirates 3 - actually a lot like Pirates 3).

True dedication! LOL

Looks good though!

Thank you! I am shocked that I got a tattoo. I never imagined in a million years that I'd get one! I just got so excited between the movie and the new book that I lost all personal self-control and went out and did it. I like it though, since I'm a Leo, the lion in Gryffindor has double meaning for me. :goodvibes

:thumbsup2

I just finished it! It was WONDERFUL!:thumbsup2

You know, I would love to ask JKR how she thinks the UBER fame of Harry Potter effected her in writing, intentionally or unintentionally, after the books and series really took off.

I'm sure she never in her wildest dreams imagined it would become what it did and I was wondering today if the mass appeal of all ages to her wonderful books effected her at all in writing them. Especially the last two.

Ok, loved the book, and it couldn't have ended any other way...

Did anyone else yelp outloud when Mrs. Weasly yelled "Not my daughter, you *word that rhymes with witch, but isn't*"!
I literally wooted outloud and DH came running to see what was wrong :lmao: Totally unexpected, but I LOVED it!

 I DID!!!!!!!

Finished reading the book this morning and just now this thread. I think I am emotionally drained. I have never cried reading a book as much as this one. The two most emotional scenes for me:

1..Dobby's death and the digging of his grave. But what really tore me apart was wrapping him in clothes. So much meaning in that gesture.

2..Snape's memories. Especially the memory after Lily's death of Snape in Dumbledore's office "making a terrible sound, like a wounded animal. Snape was slumped forward in a chair...After a moment or two, Snape raised his face, and he looked like a man who had lived a hundred years of misery..."
Then you really understand the depths of his feelings towards Lily. Just heartbreaking.

I didnt see this mentioned on the thread......The one part of the book that REALLY got to me was when Harry visited his parent graves for the first time on Christmas Eve!!!!:sad1:

Funniest part was HP idiot Uncle Thinking HP wanted them to leave the house cause he was gonna steal it!:lmao:

....and Mrs Weasly killing Bealtrix!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

i just finished the book about an hour ago. It was awesome. I cried!!!

I cant believe it's all over!

I have to say that I am now suffering Post Potter Depression. I thought the book was great. I agree that I wish it had a chapter between the end and the epiloge, but oh well.

Re: Neville not killing Bellatrix...I think if she would have had Neville kill Bellatrix it would have been to unbelievable for me. Bellatrix was obviously an extremly gifted witch and pretty insane...which makes me doubt Neville would have had half a chance against her. Btw...way to go Mrs. Weasly!!! She is easily my favorite adult character in the series and I thought her infamous line was right on the money.

RE: Ron and his "effing" this and that, well Ron has also been known to make several "rude hand gestures" throughout the series and uttered curses under his breath before, so him using that term, especially well out of his Mum's hearing range didn't seem strange to me either.

Anyone else notice that little Albus Severus Potter would be born sometime this year or next...if I did the math correctly...Harry was a first year in 1992(Nearly Headless Nick celebrates his 500th deathday) So that means the final battle happened in 2000, 19 years later(2019) Albus is 11, so had to be born in 2007 or 2008 depending on when his birthday is.

Harry's first year at Hogwarts was 1991. Nick's deathday party happens on Halloween in Chamber of Secrets which would have been 1992. This would have been Harry's 7th year at Hogwarts (1997-98). So, 19 years later, September 1, 2017. Which means that Albus would have been born anywhere between September 2, 2005 to September 1, 2006.

Ah yes, and the fact that there was a statue of him with his parents, and the ruins of his home.
