Harry and Meghan Netflix documentary

Yes, I read it's a five year deal with Netflix that they signed in 2020. The children's content that they created has already been shelved, so this is it so far. The Spotify podcast is dropping in the ratings by the week. Netflix has a few more years to get what they can out of these two I suppose, but seems like it's a loser of a deal for them. I can't imagine any big deals down the road either. What they've released so far is a highly controlled, very guarded series that comes off as a filtered instagram feed. Overall I'm left thinking that they are going to need a lot more money than they have to fund their lifestyle for the next 40+ years or so. They seem to want it all....the ultimate level of privacy and security/protection, without the mega-bank account that is required to pay for it. They've both said that they see themselves as dedicating their lives to public service. Great....but do they know what actual public servants get paid? It's relatively easy to be a public servant with the Billions that the Royal Family has backing you up. Otherwise....pretty tough.
This is where I think Harry is completely ignorant. Not being in line for King really he was probably never taught any business like William would have. He would always have a good paycheck and all his costs covered by doing his job. Charles has actually been a good businessman with the firm and made them lots of money. Am sure William is learning by his side.

Wouldn’t Harry have gotten a sizable inheritance from The Queen? Just how much do they need?
According to tradition all the inheritance follows the monarchy. While she left some direct to William (real estate ..) the majority of all goes to Charles. It would be on him to pay any of the Royals for their work. Harry likely received nothing.

Could it be that the reports of him calling Gram for money several times was to get himself on the will, maybe not an immediately handout? He has to know the process and that he was not in line.

Not to mention his Mom.
Diana left approx $31.5 million, money she received in divorce. It is said Harry received approx $13 million US.

Did read that the Queen Mother left him money as well, funny they don't talk about that. She had $17.9 million US and left the majority to Harry because William was in line for Elizabeth/monarchy money that Harry was not in line to get. Her money would not follow the line and it makes perfect sense that she wouldn't worry about those who are already wealthy and soon to be weathly.

And the new trailer is out. This doesn't look good for the palace:
Harry: 'They were happy to lie to protect my brother, they were never willing to tell the truth to protect us."
Meghan: "'I wasn't being thrown to the wolves, I was being fed to the wolves."
I saw that and honestly it told me nothing. "Protect his brother" what does that even mean? Of course he gets security he is a future king, are they protecting him from stories about him? Perhaps, but not sure how that would impact Harry unless they are stories between boys. Or is he saying that William said or did bad things that they lied about? Things that likely will never be settled in a way that makes anyone happy. At the core it sounds like a family problem, and internal issue and there is no need to air your dirty laundry unless your goal is to hurt everyone. Every family has issues, you deal with them and keep moving forward. He is burning that bridge good.

What she said is colorful but I think it just means they weren't actively trying to stop the press from talking about her. We don't know what was happening behind closed doors, just the fact she admitted what she wore on first meeting shows a disrespect for the monarchy. Was it clear to the royal family that Harry was using this as his final exit from early on, before we even knew of her? Did they give them the minimum expecting this outcome. I mean the more you give, the more you stand to lose. This is highly complicated, and sadly they weren't going to let Harry take the monarchy down because he was perpetually angry.

Sounds like these two need both a budget and a financial advisor urgently. I really don’t blame Charles not taking his calls. At some point you have to stop throwing good money after bad.
I don't think he has a clue about money management. He never had to worry a second in his life. He probably just assumed money would follow him even after he quit. He was not known for his academic excellence at all and made his way as an athlete. William on the other hand went on to get a university education.

Charles is not obligated to pay him anything for work not done. This might have to be a tough love situation. And I really hope Harry finds his way, makes his mark and lives a content life.

I think this is creative editing. It is indicated this was about their security in the UK while being still part of the family. Protected as in "my life is in danger, I need a guard with a gun."

Harry is probably talking about protection from tabloids. I guess the palace did deny certain stories about William, but didn't about Meghan. Maybe they will rehash the story of who made who cry over bridesmaids dresses.

I think the royal family always suspected Harry wanted out, but never thought he would do it.

yes, william chose to go to university (as did allot of the royals of his generation). harry had the same opportunity but chose to do a gap year then opted into military service. great choice but since he did not end up doing it as a career he could have pursued further education but i guess he chose not to.

harry has said his time in the military was the happiest of his life. he resents the media b/c he blames them for forcing his retirement at such a young age. i know he was close to his grandfather phillip who loved his own military career, was believed by many to have been on track for achieving the highest levels but then had to leave when elizabeth unexpectedly became queen. phillip carved out a new life outside the military doing a lot of charitable work as harry claims to aspire to. i think there have been resources and mentors available to harry-if he has or hasn't availed himself is unknown.

if charles is taking this path i admire him for doing so. it's never easy. i think though he saw the toll (and the public outcry) his mother endured dealing with andrew so that has to be in the back of his mind-does he really want to be financially supporting a son who has not only publicly insulted his own family members but also the nation he serves? i think not, to many it would read as affirming h&m's claims.

My point was in reference to his ability to understand and manage money to maintain a lifestyle he was used to. It really was no secret that school did not come easy to him. I applaud everyone who choses to take a course of life after high school that best fits THEM and not those around him. Of course any royal who wanted to go to university could have even if they didn't have the admittance for it. Kudos for him for following his heart. But what it might have also left him was unequipped for what he is trying to do now, live big with less understanding, some things he might have learned in university. He has always given off the impression "he will do it his way" and if he did understand the importance of mentors and guidance, he would have had Meghan accept that help when offered.

Agree. I think paying them for nothing implies paying them off. Long run move is likely rip off the band-aid and in a short time they will figure out how to live their life and there is no appearance of hiding anything.

I haven't read through the whole thread, but why do people even care about this crap? You would have to pay me to watch it. I've been to London a handful a times. I toured Buckingham Palace and I love the city, but geez.. the fact that people watch this just shows how easy it is to distract them.

Like how this thread distracted you from whatever important thing you came here to do o_O

But anyhoo....if someone had told me that one day I would be on Team Charles over Prince Harry I would have thought they were crazy lol. And yet...

Boredom while watching a NFL game with the family... and a couple of beers. Don't worry I'll be back up a 6am dealing with stuff that matters. I assume anyone that cares about this stuff is just using it as a distraction from real life. All these millionaires crying on Netflix will be just fine.

I agree, they will be just fine. Once they milk their fame for all its worth

They can only milk their fame if people if people actually tune in. I get the whole guilty pleasure thing,,, but seriously.

Very true.
Personally, I've never once clicked on a story about them or listened to them or watched them on anything, because I just want them to go away, but OMG they are hard to escape on some of the fun "news" websites. Just reading headlines is plenty.

Not sure I'll ever again feel the same about black and white photography. 😳

You clicked on a thread about them, but, hey, if you think that saying that you ignore them gives you some sort of moral high ground, have at it.

Ok, next little Nextflix mess up. The difference in the subtitles between their tweet and their website.

The difference is did Harry refer with "they" to the British Media or something/someone else?

If Harry really thinks that the royal correspondents are an extension of the Palace then it would make sense that he wants them to protect him.

Other option: the person in charge of subtitles got bored with the documentary as well and thought '"well, they always talk about the British Media, this 'they' is probably the Media as well. I will put it in there."

Well, rude, but I think you know what I mean. Not sure this thread is a big money maker.

No, I don’t know what you mean. I never understand what people mean when they come onto a thread about a topic to tell us how they don’t care about the topic and never read anything about the topic.

Other than, as I said, some sort of attempt to feel superior.

This thread is full of posts by delightful people with interesting points of view. If, however, I click on a “click bait” article on a news website, that encourages said news website to keep the articles coming. I don’t want to encourage the articles to keep coming. I expect there are others on this thread who do something similar.

There at post #194 is another bit that comes across loud and clear without any need to “click.” Most are like that.

I do in fact care about the topic, as I admire many in the royal family who have been hurt by current events.

That is because I really dislike the Daily Mail as a website. I don't want other people to have to look through the incredibly annoying way they write to find the reference I am talking about 😉

It is also one of the most interesting things about the Daily Mail and the Express. Engagements by the royal family generate 3 to 5 articles. All are basically the same with a different headline. But you do have to read them all, because sometimes there is 1 additional sentence with new information.

Well, this story unfolding is truly one for the history books, so I don’t blame anyone for digging in. It’s an extraordinary psychological study. Shakespearean.

It’s funny…DD and I did make a pact that we wouldn’t click on any H&M stories, but just seeing something like the photo of these two in the Queen’s playhouse is enough. It’s all unreal.

Well, probably for the coming years this is going to be a business case in schools:
- Psychology: How does it make you feel, how should you handle emotional situations like this? How do family dynamics work in normal families and family businesses.
- Communication: How do you communicate on a global level about family situations? Is the RF right in 'don't explain, don't complain'? How would you do it? Did Oprah ask the right questions?
- History: How does H&M's decision to step back influence the house of Windsor? Could we have foreseen this?
- Political: How does H&M's decision influence the UK politically, what about the Commonwealth in this discussion?
- Sociological: In what way does race play an issue, what are the differences between the UK and US? Why are we invested?
- IT: What is the role of bots and social media?
- Economics: What does this mean for the royal tourism sector in the UK? For Netflix: Was this a good business decision?
- Medical: What is the role of mental health issues in this?
- Ethical: Is it ethical to air your grievances about someone if you know that this person cannot speak up the same way you can?

Basically every study can use this as a business case in some form. So... maybe we should be grateful H&M have given us this classmaterial? :D
