Harry and Meghan Netflix documentary

It's unclear if Harry and Meghan inherited something. The article below does suggest that Kate, who will inherit part of the jewellery collection, might share some with Lilibet. But that's 16-18 years in the future.

Harry inherited $10 million from Diana.
I believe I once read they need about $2-3 million per year for security costs.

And the new trailer is out. This doesn't look good for the palace:
Harry: 'They were happy to lie to protect my brother, they were never willing to tell the truth to protect us."
Meghan: "'I wasn't being thrown to the wolves, I was being fed to the wolves."

I would have expected grandkids to get at least a token amount. And I mean token by Queen standards, which could have been sizable. If she left it all in Charles' hands, it will be very interesting to see how things go in the rest of the series and in Harry's book. I have a hunch Charles will be as aggressive is defending his woman as Harry is being with his.

Is it wrong that I see "security costs" and my mind envisions "entourage costs"?

Wouldn’t Harry have gotten a sizable inheritance from The Queen? Just how much do they need?

He had 16 million from his mother according to reports and has said multiple times that his inheritance from her was the only way they could make the move. They apparently spent a lot of money these first couple of years on security. They bought the 15 million dollar home in Montecito, putting down 5 million....so a 10 million dollar mortgage. That calculation along with the 300K per year tax bill....is almost 900K a year just in mortgage payments/taxes. Upkeep is easily another 100K or more. So just a million a year on the house. Add in security, travel, lifestyle...etc....and it adds up. The two big deals they made is certainly a nice cushion and buys them time, but hard to see how it funds a lifetime of the kind of spending they'll do.

Maybe they can borrow jets and such, but that kind of house requires staff. At least maids and yard. Probably a few people at least. And they have to maintain all of that. Their burn rate must be crazy.

It's a rough life I'm sure, not knowing where your next 10 million is coming from.

Yikes.

IMHO, Harry's accusation would carry more weight if they had been much more solid and consistent in their previous claims. They have created so many question marks and over-styled their presentations to the point that it all now seems doubtful. There probably are truths hidden within all this, but their bitterness and vanity have blurred the picture for me ...and many others, t would seem.

ETA: I realize this is simple repetition for some of us on this thread, but I still come across a number who don't understand why we don't just take H&M's inflammatory claims at face value and believe them all. So, I thought it was worth repeating! :wave2:

Meghan - drama and hyperbole! Is it just me who thinks that if only she understated (visually and verbally) more often, her words would carry more weight?

Haha...for sure. That's the rub for these two, it's nearly impossible to really feel sorry for them. Yes, they faced some tough press and I do believe it was quite intense and scary. But....they left, and said they wanted to strike out on their own and reach "financial independence" to raise their family with privacy. But they have to keep "sharing" if they want to make any real money. And even if they do, there will be diminishing returns because now they are out. I'm not sure any of us need to see the rescue chickens again ;).

Even if the second half of the series brings some big accusations against the Royal Family, so far the reviews across the board for it are awful. It also is being released at a terrible time for them....when sentiment for the Windsors is quite high. I'm an American, but most Brits and the rest of us around the world seem to be rooting for Charles. It will come off as whiney....etc. They're trying to sell this as some expose in a way. That they've uncovered this "secret arrangement" between the press and the Royal Family....and they've just cracked it. Didn't we all know this already existed? They just decided they didn't want to play anymore, which is totally fine. But they want the sympathy, nothing but raves from the press, and a bankroll to fund their "public service" to the rest of us. That's not how it works. They've just made things a zillion times worse for themselves....making any return trips to the U.K. an absolute nightmare.

I can’t see none of the Queen’s grandkids not getting cash in some form. Believe I read she got 80 million from her mother. The issue is inheritance tax. Charles via some loophole is not taxed. Everyone else 40%.

No. I doubt Harry got any inheritance from the Queen. I don't think that is how it works other than perhaps a few sentimental pieces like a brooch to Princess Anne or something. How much do they need? Well, think of their spend rate: abt $190,000 for a polo pony, Meghan's wardrobe and jewelry etc. etc.. There is some info that Harry was bombarding his grandmother begging her for money after she reduced her working because of mobility issues -- so that would have been fall of 2021. She told him to talk to his father. From the little bits I have read, the money for Harry and William flowed from Charles - who was funded mostly by the Duchy of Cornwall. Harry and William did get an inheritance from Diana, but Diana was divorced at that time and the funds were her own private funds. The inheritance from Diana wasn't huge either by royal standards. It was invested for him and grew in size. (I just looked it up -- about 10 million GBP ($16 million US) But after he turned 30 and after he married Markle, he took it all. He has already burned through what he received from Diana.
Sounds like these two need both a budget and a financial advisor urgently. I really don’t blame Charles not taking his calls. At some point you have to stop throwing good money after bad.

I was thinking. Also from a celebrity point of view, what H&M show is pretty unique. Besides those with a true reality show, celebrities are pretty private people. The occasional picture of a kid, a date, their house, a wedding picture or two. From a celebrity point of view, this amount of sharing is not very common.

Only just watched the last trailer, they used footage of Prince Phillip's funeral procession as a backdrop to illustrate the gap between William and Harry. Classy.
