harricane Frances

After watching the news this morning, my husband and I decided to cancel after all. The CM I talked to said she thought the ususal cancellation policy applied and if I modified to another weekend, there would be a $50 modification fee. She decided to give it a shot anyhow and when she did, the computer let her make the modification - same rate, same hotel, different weekend - with no fee or any other problems.

Now I just have to worry about the storm and dealing with my son's school as he will need to miss a day.

The link to the Palm Beacj Post was excellent. Thanks for that.:D

I live in Palm Beach county and they are telling us NOT to go to Orlando!! That the hurricane is looking like it will be in that area.
I know there is still time for things to change but it doesnt look very good for my area and Orlando!!!! :(
Please send pixie dust our way!!

yes the palm beach post is doint a excellent job keep us updated here in palm beach county. It does look bad and we are taking no chances. we were lucky enough to get a generator yesterday as they are going like hotcakes at the home depots, etc. Im stocked with supplies and now we just wait and see. dh is a fireman/paramedic and Im a er nurse so not sure that both of us will be at home at the same time- Im pretty sure he will be working during the storm and I always take after. I have heard that finding a hotel was very tough when Charley came through. I would be prepared as another poster stated- have your cooler, flashlight and things to do. Im sure there will be alot of tornados touching down. we are looking to go under at hurricane watch sometime today is what the Hurricane center said on the today show. its a very powerful storm and will do damage wherever it lands. Be careful if you do decide to stay in orlando and prepared for the worst. It just doesnt look good:(

This is why I said this storm will be worse then Charlie. People will not be evacuating to Orlando this time - Orlando will be evacuating.

With Charlie, after the storm passed things pretty much got back to normal. With this storm I think there could be a lot of residual damage for Disney - if it's a direct hit.

You definitely want to have a alternative plan if you will be in the area. You should really secure a hotel room somewhere inland in GA.

This is gonna be a major event wherever it hits.

I would sit tight and not panic.

I live near Tampa and when Charlie came we were predicted to get the brunt of the storm but were spared in the last few hours.

Be prepared but don't overly stress yourself out.

Right now normal cancellation policies for Disney are in place. If the storm is going to impact the area these policies will probably be waived as they were with Charlie.

If you have to cancel be sure to call Disney so that if the cancelation fees are waived you will be on record as having called.

Good luck everyone! I hope she slows down!:(

KAY1:

We also cancelled our trip (last minute) based on what we are hearing - when i called disney this morn, he said wait until tomorrow if cancelling as that is when a disney announcement will be made and i can possibly get a full refund...

we still plan on going, possibly in Oct - i noted in your post they got you the same hotel, room at same price - i tried this and no luck..i tried to get my AKL postcard rate and no deal - that was a bummer as well as the room i got for $150 or so, is going for over $320 in Oct....

back to planning again - cannot complain about spending a thousand or so more as the big issue is really the safety of the people directly impacted by this storm...

(i must say i was a bit surprised when the swest agent told me this morn she flew a whole plane direct flight to orlando -- thought more would have cancelled....)

That is a shame, Pan's Dad. I think the reason I got the same rate and hotel is because I just postponed it to next weekend - still a pretty slow time of year. Any chance you could just push it back one week? Best of luck to you and everyone.

We were there during Charley on the 13th. The day before was when WDW revised its cancelation policy....full refund.

We got phone messages in our room at POR the night before telling us and everyone else that the parks were to shut down at 1PM and that ALL of DTD was closed the entire day.

AK was shut the whole day to protect the animals.

The destruction was UNREAL to the trees around WDW. When we left for the airport on the 22nd...many houses along the way had roof coverings and OIA was damaged.

Good luck to all.
