Have any of you ever used their services? WE will be going to WDW in June and have a baby that we are thinking of getting his first haircut there! And of course, we can't leave his 12 year old sister out, so we want to set up a "trim" for her, too. Can anyone tell me about their experience here with either a first haircut or an older child? Is it worth it for either, but especially DD?

I think it is worth it. My 5 year old had her first haircut there. My 19 month old is getting her first haircut there next month. During one trip, when my oldest was 2 (not her first haircut), she and her dad got haircuts together side by side. It isn't a salon by any means but it is fun. All in all, the cost isn't too bad. I believe it is $18 for a first haircut and you get a pair of ears that say first haircut. Don't quote me on the price it could have increased recently. I think it is a little cheaper for kids not doing the first haircut thing. It is just a fun experience. I would make a reservation as the shop is very small. I think there are 3 chairs. Don't forget to bring cash for a tip. They are connected to the store next door. While they do take credit cards, you can't add a tip.

Also, the barbers are really good with the kids. They give them tons of stickers or light up toys to play with while they are cutting their hair.

Aww, what a nice idea.

I haven't used them, though I have looked into it a few times. I remember hearing that your best bet is to call and make a reservation well in advance, as they book up, though they will try to accommodate walk-ins as possible. June's a busy time - I wouldn't bet on walk-in availability. The first haircut package seemed sweet, with the Mickey ear hat included and all. Though my son was past his first haircut at that point, so I was looking at the regular kids cut. The glitter they put in at the end is a popular choice - every visit to the Magic Kingdom, I've seen glitter-headed kids meandering around with freshly-cut hair. The price was right, too. I want to say $15? Which is less than we'd pay for our local kids salon here. A good deal all-around!

I guess.... would your daughter want the glitter in her hair, or would she be bugged by it? Does she like/dread getting a haircut typically? Would she rather have one of you take her on a ride, or would she prefer grabbing a snack one-on-one with one of you on Main Street USA, while the other parent is with baby for his first haircut?

There are really good there. Had two appointments made for both kids and there were about 3 hours apart. Went for the first and asked about getting the second done at that time as well and they said no problem. First was the first haircut and she screamed and kicked and cried. Turns out after bath that night it was a bit uneven. Took her back a couple of days later and they fixed it right up.

We've taken my son twice. The first time he was 9 months and it was his first hair cut. We got the package and it was really nice. The second time he was 2. Now this kid is super uncooperative about hair cuts, but they were really good with him. We had Michael both times but the ladies working there seemed really great too! We just walked up first thing in the morning both times and didn't have to wait long.

My second son is only 3 months right now, and has nowhere near as much hair as my first did, but I'm really hoping it grows enough to have his first hair cut when we go this fall!

Oh, she would be all about the glitter, even at 12! While she may not admit it to friends at home lol. The cut itself I'm sure she could care less about, but she would enjoy the "pixie dust" part of it. Also, she went so long being an only child, sometimes there is still a little jealous with the baby(not blatant, but there) and I don't want her to think we are doing "more" for him or doing something for him and not even considering it for her. I want to make the trip special for both, but especially her as DS will only be 10 mos old and won't remember near as much! The first haircut is more for mom and dad and memorable pics :P

Aww, cute pic! That's what we are hoping for, good pictures! HE can "remember" when he gets older, lol. Amboo, mine will be 10 months and doesn't have a TON of hair, just hoping to have enough 4 mos from now to atleast cut a tiny sprig off to say we got his first haircut there lol

Well, if she'd be into it, I'd say go ahead and book both. OR, ask her what she'd prefer. If, as you say, she has some jealousy because she was an only for so long, she might want to feel like she's getting "equal" stuff (kids that age tend to be bookkeepers when it comes to "fairness"). Or she might prefer a different special treat/moment elsewhere. If you put the power to choose in her hands, she can't complain of unequal treatment. (I know, I know, kids will still complain, but you can calmly point out that you gave her the choice, she made the choice... what's there to complain about, exactly? My son is still little, but I taught middle school for several years, so I'm familiar with the joys and struggles of the tween/early teen years...)

My DS has gotten his haircut there twice, but not his first haircut. The barbershop is really cute, the staff are wonderful and they do a nice job. We went because, one, I wanted to see the inside of the Barbershop and, two, he needed a haircut! I think the first haircut is a great experience (for mom and dad!). I don't know if this will really be that special for your DD, though. Have you thought about maybe taking her to Ivy Trellis for a service or a mani/pedi at the GF spa? That would probably be a little more special. Or even afternoon tea at GF?

We went here for DS' first haircut in December (2015) and loved it! It was $25 for the first haircut package. They are great with the little ones and we got some fabulous pictures!

We are making an appointment for my niece to get her first haircut here in September! We are going to call at the 180 day mark just in case. We would much rather have an appointment then trying to walk up. We are so excited! She will be 18 months old when we go. We are trying for the earliest appointment, so we can start our first full day at MK. The first haircut package and experience seems really cute!

My son got his first haircut there in 2013. At the time it was $20 which included a certificate and Mouse Ears! Too cute! Definitely make a reservation in advance though: I called about a month before our most recent trip and no appointments

My son had his first haircut done here at 13 months old last October. He isn't the type to wanna sit still for very long but the lady cutting his hair knew all the tricks to dealing with an antsy baby. It was a wonderful experience and I'm sure we'll go back in the future. The lady covered him in Mickey stickers and gave him a toy to play with that held his attention. He had a lot of hair so we were there a good while (mama had some SERIOUS heartburn while carrying him). I wanna say it was $19 for the First Haircut package but I'm not positive. They took some of his hair clippings and wrapped them up and put them in a little bag and he also got a certificate. Definitely a cute experience!image.jpeg

The first haircut is $24 or $25 now. The standard haircut is $18 or $19. Something like that. Just had a haircut three weeks ago for DD. She had her first haircut there years ago and now it's the only place she'll agree to get a trim. She got a trim and a ponytail with tons of pixie dust. Honestly, she looked almost like the girls coming out of BBB and for far less $$$ (she was wearing a princess dress that day). There are still a few pieces of pixie dust buried in her hair and I don't have the heart to pull them out. They'll fall out eventually and I kind of like seeing a tiny bit of Disney Magic when I brush her hair.

We didn't have an appointment but just wandered over to the barbershop on our way in around 10:00 or 11:00 one morning. I think the wait was only 10 minutes, if that.

Both of my DDs have had haircuts there. Definitely worth it. We scheduled it right before our CRT dinner on one trip and right before BOG on another trip. IMO it is a wonderful alternative to BBB for the girls, and can be great for the boys, too.

My entire family get our hair cut there every summer. It reminds me of the old school barber shop we used to have on Main Street in my little home town. That shop is long gone now, but the one at Magic Kingdom is still there to remind me of that simpler time. I love getting my hair cut there, and the price isn't out of hand either!

How cute! thanks for sharing!!! I am so excited for this, I just hope she doesn't get scared.

Here is my niece at 2 weeks old - SO much hair and my sister never had heartburn during her pregnancy, surprisingly! lol Everyone said she would lose most of her hair as the months go on, but she never lost any of it, and she's not even 1 year yet and has a pony tail, I love it! LOL they are going to have no problem giving her a first haircut! :rotfl:

We've done 3 first haircuts there, they do a great job. The first haircut package comes with a certificate, satchel with a lock of baby hair, and the ears. Make sure you bring cash to tip the hairstylist, you can't add it to your bill. And definitely get a reservation. My other suggestion is that you do it as early in the trip as possible, I did it on day 2 for my first baby and I now have a full day of pictures where his hair looks terrible compared to the rest of the week where it looks great.
