Hardly anyone trick or treats around here

We were just discussing this tonight. I was a little afraid we wouldn't have enough candy based on all the kids I saw when we were out (since I bought extra & couldn't find the bags before I left). When I got home, I asked DH how much was left...he found the extra bags and didn't even have to open them. I've decided it's because we are on a busy street not quite in the "U" part -- our subdivision has a couple U shape roads and basically we are the main road that would cross the top of the U.

The first year we moved in here we went through at least 6 big bags of candy but it's been dwindling each year. I think part of it is the neighborhood is getting "older" -- all the little kids when we moved in are now teenagers who no longer trick or treat. We still get a fair amount of kids, just less than previously (so of course, I overbought with knowing it is a Sunday this year and not too bad weather wise). I'm also basing this on I just got the school directory on Friday & this is the first year since my 16 year old started Kindergarten that every grade except 5th only has 3 classes. It's *always* been at least 4 classes & the year before DD's was 5!! And ours isn't the only subdivision going to the school.

Now flip that around & my mom's neighborhood, she was lucky if she got 20 kids for YEARS and this year she has had 51 (she keeps count! ;) Always has.) So their neighborhood is now going back to the upswing of getting the younger families moving in.

We havebeen very busy!! have handed out about 12 of the big bags of candy so far- ToT is almost done, but I also live on a military base
it is 78 degrees here still

It's now 9pm and we officially have had 0 trick or treaters this year. The weather is comfortable and clear. Beautiful fall evening. I'm bummed.

I just saw on a friend's Facebook that she ran out of candy by 7:30 after 377 kids came to her door (she said she kept a tally count to see how many showed up) :scared1:

You should all come here. We are a "Newer" neighborhood (10 years or less) and we get TONS of kids from around town and other neighborhoods that always come here for some reason. I gave away the 2 huge bags of candy I bought, and then tapped into the leftover candy that nobody wanted from the 2 MNSSHP's from our trip. I gave all that away, and then turned off the light at 7:30 (and trick or treating started at 6!)

We turned our lights off at 8:15 when we ran out of the bags we made, all the loose stuff that we had, plus all the pennies we had put aside. We had 296 kids. It was cold here tonight. Normally, we sit out and give the candy (our house is decorated and we have noisy decorations that are motion activated). This year we stayed in - it was just too cold.

Kids had a good time though.

Now the clean up begins - well, tomorrow morning!

We gave our dog a new bone (which we get from the butcher that still has marrow in the middle) and she has been happily chewing on that and hasn't barked ONCE. It's been very nice (she doesn't like when people ring the doorbell).

Just turned off our porch light. The street is completely deserted. I only bought 4 small bags of candy and gave out generous handfuls and still have 3/4 of the stuff left.

I think they all came to my house.... seriously! We had at LEAST 425-450 trick-or-treaters tonight! We generally get around that many, but I wasn't sure what to expect this year since it was in the 40's and a school night. People literally come from all over the city to our development and we get swamped!!! I had approx. 600 pieces of candy and handed out 1 per child unless it was a lollipop in which case they got 2... but that wasn't a whole lot. Ended up having my girls dump some of their candy in our give-away bowl since we were running out!

Sometimes some kids go to the more developed parts of town (like the townhouses etc). That at least what I found last year when we only got 10 kids.

We have had maybe 10 so far and 6 of them are from our street. It is only a little after 7, but we probably won't get a lot. We are at the end of a cul de sac and don't tend to get too many.

My door bell rang at 6:30, again at 7:05, and once more at 7:48. That's it so far. My DD11 went to trick or treat with her friend in another neighborhood altogether. Where are all the children? I see them at the school bus stops in the morning. :confused3

we had about 15 kids today  I really thought there'd be more, being a weekend and all....and that was really only about 5 doorbell rings, because they were in groups...
What I really didn't need...all the Xtra candy :rotfl2:

I just left the candy outside, been trying to walk out there to see to make sure people are stopping I think a few have passed and the basket is still half full even tho I figured itd be gone by now since you know how help yourself, usually turns out ;) lol but in any case its still out there so well see. but not too many i dont think

We had a ton of trick or treaters!! I even ran out of candy. I've never run out of candy in the 25 years or so I've been handing it out!

8pm and we've only had the doorbell ring twice - a group of 4 and a group of 3.

We ran out of candy at about 8:20! :scared1: There were a ton of kids out. DD (the most adorable Alice ever) had a great time and scored a ton of candy :thumbsup2

they are all on our street:eek:;)

we have one of the busiest streets in our neighborhood. a lot of houses go all out.

we didn't do candy this year, we went to my DSis house and took my Dneice trick or treating for the first time, she is almost 2.

she was Cinderella...it was sooooo cute !!!!!!!!!!:goodvibes

I had the opposite I had a lot more this year than last year. But mostly older kids and adults YES adults, not just older teen but 30 - 40 year olds.

We live in a fairly big apartment complex, and I really really miss trick or treaters! I used to go to my mom's house to pass out candy but now we live several states away. :sad1:

I had 5. One group of 3, then 2 singles. One of the singles was my 4.5yo niece who lives down the street. DB said there were more kids on his end of the street. We live on street that has a cul de sac on each end and only 1 street leading to ours.
