DH picked this up for us for lunch today. It was so yummy! And since it's wrapped in HUGE lettuce leafs, it's really easy to hold. I had the 1/3 lb. burger, but they do have it available in a 2/3 lb. for those with a larger appetite. It had 5 Carbs (3 Net Carbs). Hope this isn't a repost...
HARDEE'S INTRODUCES THE LETTUCE WRAPPED LOW CARB THICKBURGER
ST. LOUIS, Mo. December 15, 2003 The holiday season is in full swing and diets everywhere are being tossed aside in favor of eggnog and cookies. Want to get back on track without feeling denied of the yummy indulgences of the season? Now you can. Introducing The Low Carb Thickburger from Hardee's the newest version of the Angus beef Thickburger. The bunless, lettuce-wrapped burger contains only five grams of carbohydrates (and only three grams of net carbohydrates which is carbohydrates less fiber and sugar alcohols).
The Low Carb Thickburger is made from a charbroiled 1/3-pound seasoned, Angus beef patty, which means it tastes great even without the bun. So, no other quick-service burger chain can offer such a delicious low-carb burger option," said Brad Haley, executive vice president of marketing for Hardee's. "And, Hardee's is the first quick-service restaurant chain to offer a quick and convenient low-carb burger for the almost 32 million Americans currently on some type of carbohydrate-reduced diet.
The Low Carb Thickburger maintains the same substantial 1/3-pound Angus beef hamburger patty as the original, but varies slightly in toppings. In order to reduce the amount of carbs, the bun was removed and the burger is served wrapped in iceberg lettuce leaves. The amount of ketchup was also reduced. The burger is also topped with mustard, mayo, cheese, tomato, red onion and dill pickles. The result is 49 fewer grams of carbohydrates.
The Hardee's Low Carb Thickburger is served in a paper "half wrap" and comes in its own cardboard carton, both of which make eating a lettuce-wrapped, bunless burger a much easier task than would be the case with typical fast-food packaging.
Participating Hardee's restaurants will begin selling the Low Carb Thickburger on Monday, Dec. 15. Suggested retail price is $2.89, though prices may vary.
Introduced in January of this year, the Hardees line of Thickburgers gives burger lovers a level of quality and taste unparalleled in the quick-service burger industry. Made from 1/3-, 1/2- and 2/3-pound Angus beef patties, the Thickburgers are charbroiled, topped with premium, quality ingredients and are served wrapped in individual boxes. Including the new Low Carb Thickburger, there are now a total of nine Thickburgers on the Hardee's menu.
CKE Restaurants is the first quick-service restaurant operator to promote a low-carbohydrate burger on its menu. In addition to the Hardee's Low Carb Thickburger, CKE has also introduced the Low Carb Six Dollar Burger through its Carl's Jr.® restaurant chain.
