Hi. with christmas just around the corner and company coming, I need your best way to remove the hard water stains in our bathroom sinks and toilets. Its a job that someone has to do and I guess its me.

People here swear by something called "The Works" - that is available in the Dollar stores.. You might want to try that..:santa:

Cheapo way- THE WORKS(they sell it at the dollar store)

Not so cheapo but effective way-
LIME AWAY- works for us.

:rotfl: I think my water softener is dying and I just noticed the stains yesterday in my kitchen stink. Nothing was working and I used an SOS pad.

I read that if you put lemon juice on the area and let it sit for a while that should get rid of them. I did try it, but I don't think I let it sit long enough. I know vinegar will remove mineral sediments from coffee machines and water coolers so it may work for removing hard water stains as well.

Wallyvort sells this stuff called rust away. It is in a small brown bottle and will literally remove the rust as you squirt it. There is another product there in the aisle with the commercial cleaners (by the trashbins) that is for bathrooms that works as well too. I can't recall the name but it is in a white squirt bottle with a yellow and red label. All of those products are really good!

I live in the sticks and our well water is terrible (bottled drinking water for us!)despite our water system but for showering & general water this is how we combat it.

We have hard water and a blue bathroom. Honestly, the owners must not have considered this fiasco. We use Lime Away and it works great. All I have to do is wipe. There is no scrubbing needed.

Absolutely amazing!

We must have had an issue with out water softener a while back. Our toilets and tub/showers had a nasty orangy/brown build-up on them. (I clean them weekly, but it was not coming off.) My DH used a pumice stone to try to get the stains out of our upstairs bathroom after regular cleaning methods didn't work. I bought The Works, squirted it in the downstairs toilet, let it sit just while I was cleaning the outside/seat of the toilet, and everything just wiped off with one swipe of the toilet wand. It came off as solid-ish stuff-- it was floating instead of just disolving. It really was unbelievable. I've been using it ever since. They also have a spray cleaner that works for stains in showers/tubs/sinks-- just wipe off with a sponge.

Be aware that it smells like vomit, but it's worth the results. :upsidedow

They sell it at some other stores as well. I didn't get it at the Dollar Tree, but saw a whole shelf of it there recently.

CLR. We had rust colored stains in our shower that I could NOT get out. This stuff was amazing!! I didn't even have to scrub. Just use gloves, it will really hurt your skin.

Barkeepers Friend. Dampen the surface, sprinkle it on, and let it sit for a few minutes. Rust stains scrub right off!

Thanks, Since we are in Ontario I don't think that I have saw The Works but last year while shopping in Buffalo, I picked up a couple of bottles.I forgot to get more when shopping again, a couple of weeks ago. I NEED for cures.

If you don't have the rusty brown hard water stains, just soaking in vinegar should remove anything and everything. I soaked our faucet and shower heads in vinegar overnight. Next morning there were the solid chucks of calcium floating. I just took an old toothbrush to scrub off anything that stuck, rinsed and reattached to plumbing. Stubborn stuff, just soak some cotton wool or an old dishcloth in vinegar and let it sit, should come right up.

The Works is wonderful for cleaning the showers without scrubbing. (Our local walmart has stopped carrying it and the Meijer that carries it wants $3 for it). When our water softener went last year, we were left with the rust stains. It was the only thing that worked well. I know I sprayed it with Tilex (which usually takes out anything and everything), it did not touch it. Just soaking in the Works and coming back, it was great. No scrubbing.

Lemon juice will work in a pinch, it's not as good on the bathrooms though. I have used it successfully on our kitchen counters.

Quick cleanup while you're in the shower for soap scum, shampoo. Shampoo breaks down the oils that mix with the soap.

Yep, The Works is amazing. We have very hard water (community well) and my toilets looked horrible. I bought some and put it in. I cleaned the rest of the bathroom and when I came back the toilet was sparkling clean with not a speck of rust or hard water stain in sight! I had been using much more expensive stuff trying to clean it but nothing else worked.
