Hard time deciding how many points we truly need.

I forgot to post a picture of the freebies I got from the guide.

We got the Zootopia post cards from our new guide. But we also got them from the person at the DCA sales place. I asked her if she had the post cards and she asked to see my card. I was confused because I was wanting the 70th post cards. So she was like "OHH. Yeah...you don't have to have direct points for those. But here...you can have the Zootopia ones anyway."

We also got the snowflake ornament from our new guide. And one from the VGC sales center.

Here are the 70th postcards we have. I never got around to getting the ones at Disneyland or Pixar Pier hotel. Maybe they will still have them in June.

We also went around the park to get all of the little 70th tickets with our magic bands. They recognize us as DVC members on the back.

LOVE the tickets!! Such a cool little souvenir.

I like a more "round" number. For VGC, 160 seemed to be a common amount so we just ended up with that. For BRV we bought a 50 then decided we wanted more and got a 150 to add to that.

I partly feel like if we do VDH we should do 160 to 'match' the VGC contract. But we'll see, I guess.

So you've decided on VDH for sure?

I just did the math for a 6 night stay in June 2027 at VDH in a 1-bedroom.

TOT would be $788.31 or $806.64, depending upon which nights.
Not a ton of money, but probably still more than the tax that I'm paying (lumped into my dues) at VGC.

Thankfully, we would be alternating with VGC if we bought VDH so it wouldn't be an every single year/visit charge.

I still think the upfront cost difference between resale VGC and direct VDH would even out over time. Partly due to TOT. And also because if we do VGC, we'd really be looking more for a contract of 100 points instead of 150 at VDH. So less in dues every year.

(And in the end, cost won't be the driving factor for us anyway.)
Hi Clara,

Seems the thread has moved along. Sounds like VDH ownership might be in your future. FYI I ran a 6 night stay in June to show what paying cash rate would be for taxes versus the DVC ToT amounts you showed above of about $800.

One important note, this comparison only looks favorable if staying in a 1 bedroom on Disney property. You can easily lesson these tax amounts if staying off Disney property.

In a Disneyland Hotel Junior 1 bedroom its $1,410 in taxes.

If it's a 1 bedroom at DVC it's $1,536 in taxes.

No. We won't be sure of anything until the day we decide to purchase. It's leaning that way the more we talk about it though.

I don't really get what a fixed week is. Are you stuck with that same week every single year? I guess that wouldn't really work for us anyway since we'd be alternating between VDH and VGC.

Fixed weeks are good if you want to stay the same week in the same unit type. For the years that you don't want to use it, you can give it up and get the points for whatever you're doing instead. Fixed weeks are 7 nights. I think you said you do 6 night stays?

You don’t have to go on the fixed week. You can use the points as you please but the fixed week is locked in if you want it. Also the thinking is that FW hold their value better should you ever sell.

Hmm...I'll have to research that as I've never really taken the time to do it before.

Do they cost more or what?
You have to buy 10% more than what the week costs to book. Say you want to only buy 150 points because the desired week you want to book is 145 points. If you buy it as a FW you need to buy 160 points 145 + 14.5 (10%).

Not to derail the thread, but would you both think a 150 point FW would sell better than two 75 point or three 50 point contracts at a restricted resort 🤔 I feel like DL is so different, especially people booking short stays 🤣

I bought a FW at VDH, doubt I will ever use it but it’s there if I ever do need it and if I sell I think it will yield a bit more pp than if it wasn’t a FW. In the end it didn’t cost me any extra money so why not.

I was coming at this from the thought of if they were going to buy 160 points anyways to just make it a fixed week.

I think smaller contracts would sell better because people will want/need to add on.

This right here. I always like to see the numbers, although we are paying TOT it’s much less than if we were paying that tax staying on cash.
